- Video of the Red Desert WY BDR-X route. My brother and I did this together. He has a KTM 890R and I have a Husky 901. The route was mostly chill and scenic. Majority of the video covers the technical section of the route. I found it great on the 901. I could have done this route on my 1290R as well, but I will say it was much easier on the 901. I think it's a solid route for big bikes, but probably not for beginners because of the sand and technical sections. If you have good experience on big bike off-roading, then this should be a fun route for you.
It took use about 5 hours to do the loop from Baggs all the way around back to Baggs.
Nice footage...as always. Just out that way last week on my 990 headed over to South Pass and Atlantic City. Some pretty terrain. I like your rider view w/the windshield in frame as it adds some perspective. Great looking terrain and nice riding, but man I'm not a fan of the 5+ inch sand when running solo anymore...especially in narrow rocky trails. I'm too short to duck walk and my number of sandy lifts/day is dropping quickly. I probably need to spend more time practicing down in Pink Coral Sands....or stick to my 250 in the deep stuff. Sure nice to have a brother to ride with. Thanks for this and all your other vids. From the rides to the install, very helpful and will be even more so when I retire the 990 and move on to something else.
Sand is the worst on these big bikes. The sand on this route was pretty short though, so I doubt it would be an issue for you.
Thanks for the vid. Two questions: 1. Do you have your Zumo hard wired in and if not do you use a battery pack? 2. Which is the better bike for the BDR, the KTM 890 or Norden? Two awesome bikes!
The Zumo has a powered mount that is wired into the bike. 890R is going to easier/more capable in the dirt for some stuff, but I think the Norden can do all of the BDR's just fine. Norden will be much more comfortable on the road and easy stuff.
Awesome Route..What mount are you using for your gps? Is that a zumo xt?
Yes... Zumo XT. I used an SW Motech mount. There may be some better options, but that was all that was immediately available when I needed it.
dude....when did you get a 901?
Back in May :)
Is this the Norden in Colorado that’s for sale now?
@@mechcavandy986 No way! I just got this bike in May and love it way too much to give it up anytime soon :) Also, I was just visiting CO. I live in CA.
I wonder if the SxS's have trashed it yet?
BDR says the sand and ledges is about 30 miles. That what you guys saw? How deep was the sand? Loop easily doable in a day? Thanks!
30 miles long? No way. The deep sand sections were very minimal. Maybe quarter of a mile total. I just duck walked it a very little bit, but I'm sure the deepness changes with times of year and weather conditions. It was way less than I experience on CA or NV BDRs. Ledges are only what's seen in the video. Yes... very easily doable in a day. I think it took us 5 hours to do the entire loop. Lots of fast riding.
@@ls6777 ok, maybe I misinterpreted what they said. Perhaps they mean that the sand/ledges happen 30 miles into the loop. Thanks for the feedback!
@@docwyte Yeah... that sounds about right.
