Computer controlled walking is a great idea, yet it makes driving those things totally boring. On old walking excavators, you have to place each leg individually, a bit difficult but that's what makes it fun.
I watched the demonstration of this moving system in the forest of Kalimantan in 2005 and the result was so fast and amazing!!!! It is pitty that the last tropical forest in Kalimantan will erase surely and quickly....... bye bye the forest
Actually yes, our forest were very well managed, they were thinned properly, and had few bore beetles and we had no bee problem. IT was not until some years after the bans on thinning, logging, and reducing the bore infestation did we have so many fires. Bees are simple, don't spray flowers with universal pesticides. I have more than 40,000 plus bees on my property every year pollinating my gardens, flowers, and fruit trees. Rotting, death and heavy underbrush allows fires to spread faster.
You probably put it on a trailer and haul it to where it needs to be. I don't think you can build walkers that heavy that can sprint, they'd destroy themselves.
Maybe it could walk on hydraulically powered wheels? Like hydrostatic.. Add drive wheels that can move it around on pavement and manageable terrain and then it could lower it and drive itself onto trailers and be towed into the shop if it breaks down
Furniture I have are eco-friendly made from recycled materials to form a composite or if it is wooden the trees used to make it are replanted. My house is solar so I make so much energy that I get payed for producing it and im pretty sure ill recycle my computer when it breaks. And my clothes are eco friendly made from hemp and bamboo strains that fast growing and require little water. Anything is a realistic goal if you try to achieve it.
It would be easy to make these things move faster. Only thing is, that the cabin starts shaking a lot in higher speeds, and the machine has to be as light as possible
this beauty shall work poil-palm perfectly in the equatorial oil palm plantations. seriously interested in getting a demo set here to keep it on mass production line and keep the brainy Finnish busy in the factory. Replies from Plustech is highly being sough after! i'am from British North Borneo(now SABAH, Malaysian state ) which produces more than half of world's total olean edible oil output.
its needs better processors than current technology can offer. wait 5 years trust me, these technologies will advance significantly with function and well speed.
Unfortunately 0. It was only a prototype and never went to production. John Deere bought the brand and the only prototype can now be seen at Luso forrestry museum in Finland. Too bad, it looks so cool.
well, as to us it with an excavator, i really thin they shuld put a lot bigger feets on it, as all the load will be on te front 2 legs, i mean the entiere macine and the load in the buket, so on any softer grounds the legs will most likly go straith thru the ground, and sorry for incorect words
Okay but i am concerned about the pressure and weight thats being distributed to the ground, the reason why bulldozers and most excevators don't have wheels is becuase tracks distribute the weight much more evenly, and now i wonder how the weight is distributed amongst these legs
mulher inteligente é isso aí esse vídeo é uma piada nunca vi máquina ter pés e andar como se fosse um cavalo treinado kkkk cada uma pare esse trem que quero de ser.
You'd still have to build a logging road to get to the site, uness you want to to spend several days covering the distance "on foot". Thing is slow as hell. And a lot of sites are damn remote. Dozens of miles. Cutting roads to them is still not very popular, and causes a lot of erosion and rutting. Even if you trucked the walkers in, they're still a hell of a lot slower than a normal machine, and time is money. It will only work if they make them a lot faster, or if they're forced by law (and then of course, we'll all be paying twice as much for lumber because it'll take twice as long to cut it, and foresters are expensive).
I know this comment is kind of old, but I can't understand why transport is a problem. Why not just load it onto a flatbed truck until it arrives on site? Then walk into the forest? I think that both manned and unmanned walking technology has a LOT of potential, especially with how much research is being put into them. It is disappointing that John Deere decided to stop developing this particular vehicle.

Muuito incrivel, os engenheiros que criarao sao muito inteligente.
Incrível ! Seria ótimo ter essa máquina aqui no Brasil nas áreas florestais.
Incrível o que se faz com energia transformadas...top de mais
Jeeeezzz when you finally gets to the worksite it is time to go back home LOL
I imagine when this goes alongthe street in a village, and all dogs become crazy :-))
😂dogs going crazy with the loudest bark on earth hahaha...I can imagine the drama
カッコイイ! coolなロボットに興味あります。
A engenharia mecânica é maravilhosa!!!
I would be carefull with that Vehicle in the Forest, Ewoks could mistake it as an Imperal AT-ST Walker and crush it with log traps.
I was thinking at a similar thing: And this is how it starts the " Star Wars "
lol
this why they fitted a log grasper cutter ona crane for replacing guns now its the ewoks that fear logs
add a fire crew with a couple laser cannons
In fact it is a mechanical tortoise with six legs and a crane.
Wow...technology and mechanics combined...i like it, but not sure how i ended up hereO_o
Put wheels on it's belly so it can go faster sometimes..
God perfected this a LONG time ago. What could be so hard?
That is VERY cool yet VERY CREAPY!!!
Qual o graus de inclinação que essa máquina atende
Perfect vehicle for galactic empire
Not the fastest out there but sure as hell the coolest!
Totaly thunderbirds!

Muito imteresante
Excelente!!!! Muito bom!!
A machine to surpass Metal Gear...

Made in Finland! Here in Finland we make what we want, others make what they can...
increible! deben traer uno a Perú
adapitar para colher café de montanha seria muito bom

Does it have a sprint mode? :>

Lento de maisss
this is awesome
omg thats coolest machine ever. i want one
I like the one that looked like a john deer tractor with legs.
Timberjack was the old name before John Deere acquired them

Perfect for mars and for portable housing location. Build your small home on one of these and move it where you want to in the forest or Mars.
Heres an idea: wheels or tracks to get it to the site, then it engages it's legs and retracts the wheels to start work.
Just like Crossout!
I would just use this for exploration and to gawk at ! Id paint it camo blue with a white underbelly
looks like a maintenance nightmare
how is cutting trees, environmental friendly?
It would be easy to make these things move faster. Only thing is, that the cabin starts shaking a lot in higher speeds, and the machine has to be as light as possible
Wow Amazing
Cупер техника:)
Thats the biggest green tree ant I have ever seen!
Why do I suspect there was a Star Wars fan in the engineering design department. I can't even conceive of the amount of money spent on this!
grandioso

Very impressive .
That damn thing looks like an expensive maintenance nightmare. I cant it will find use in the real world industry any time soon.
its needs better processors than current technology can offer. wait 5 years trust me, these technologies will advance significantly with function and well speed.
It is Awsome... Yes it take time to get on the terrain, but no MORE STUCK IN THE MUDD OUUAHHHH
why do they need to be that slow? I'm sure hydraulics can manage a lot faster movements! It would suck ass to walk a mile with that thing.
isn't suppose to be used as a transport vehicle and although the hydralics could do a harder work it could affect the stability
There should be no loss to the eco system using this, because the trees will have re grown before it manages to get back to the start ;)
yes it is very slow.max 2 km/h
Unfortunately 0. It was only a prototype and never went to production. John Deere bought the brand and the only prototype can now be seen at Luso forrestry museum in Finland. Too bad, it looks so cool.
Goodbye, forests.
It was good to spend time with you.
CooL
did anyone else miss it as it flew across the terrain so fast?
its working good
muito bom....
Que maqna
We are going to need one for transportation the way the roads are falling apart these days
due to a broke government
Amazing Technology
İnteressante os robos! 👍
now the walking machines are in the logging museum...
I just thinking...0.0 imagine this with 4 50 cal machine guns killing zombies all around wow!

and if it is a little muddy og the ground is a bit soft it will just sink in and the suction will keep it there :P
Gostei
Maybe it has a sprint-mode. Imagine, driving yourself with 100mph, overtaken by a running machine :))
they will never replace them, because they hat big problems with the machines slipping, so they gave up researching the walking technology!
That is Tachikoma!!
best technologi its amazing

Не за горами выход Механоидов
mech warrior here we come
Great make it bigger and give it toe flaps, armor and then add missiles to it then we have AT-AA. :D
Metal Gear is becoming a reality...
The machine and the video are from the 1990's. I guess at best you could say it was ahead of its time. Look at the computer screens around 0:40...
The missing link between artillery and infantry, a metal... gear
i keep thinking of a miniature one walking a paraplegic out into a forest for the first time, or down a long set of stairs in an emergency.
I don't think these guys heard of the Menzi Muck
they remind me of slow-moving beetles
What about if it gets stuck?
I really wish the legs are more bio real living to that, it would be more like a creature stand.
If that is all the faster that walker goes, it could easily take eight hours just to get to the work site.
One step closer to sky net
Okay but i am concerned about the pressure and weight thats being distributed to the ground, the reason why bulldozers and most excevators don't have wheels is becuase tracks distribute the weight much more evenly, and now i wonder how the weight is distributed amongst these legs
Too bad that thing will take three DAYS just to get to the jobsite.
Thanks what a regular truck is for...

Set up a racing league for them, and people will figure how to speed them up.
