Also that Demons shirt goes so hard 🤌
Before my year ends, I just wanna thank you uncle Ben for being a cornerstone of my year's evolution, I must say i'm an exponentially better guitar player because of your guidance through all your content, many thanks!
Wow, thank you! Cheers, man!
""Currently residing atop Tonehenge". I literally laughed out loud!! Ben, you are always great for a clever laugh line and a tasty little exercise. Keep up the always fantastic work, really appreciate it.
Damn Unka Ben, Now I'm shifting speeds AND positions on EVERYONE'S Step-Mom. Thanx Unk!!
The “eye on the next position” is something you mentioned before. It has helped me immensely. I truly appreciate your videos. Especially how you break them down afterwards. The Wayne Gretzky reference is also appreciated as well. Thanks.
Try challenging yourself to sightreading pieces you haven't seen/heard before, you'll learn to look ahead real fast.
Your a legend for showing the example and tabs up front. I jam them all the time and keeps me coming back ❤
My Step Mom couldn’t stand my Step Dads shifting speed
High gear had to short of a duration?
Uncle Ben is the gift 🎁 that keeps on giving!!!
This will be good for both my guitar skills as well as in the bedroom. I'll think of you in both scenarios, Uncle Ben.
The Gilmour Time solo is a great example of this. When he moves down the neck and back up in the second half you have to look where you are going. Awesome tip!
I thought I was goofing off doing similar things, never knew it actually did me some good.
My dad is a master at position shifting.... just ask my stepmom Becky...
We all know Becky bro
Bro 😂
You win the internet 😂
@yak... you shut your mouth! Lol
Killer lesson. Much appreciated. And a killer guitar. Those Modern Terras are something else.
I often wonder if Yardage Macassar ever watches your vids. He's gotta love your nicknames for him.
Love your content, but really love your sense of humour.
Wow. Thumbs up just for writing that little etude alone. Well done.
When I learned to play lead, back before internet, UA-cam, etc, my only resource was listening to records. I quickly picked up on the idea of pentatonic scales (I had no idea they were called that until many years later - I just thought of the patterns as "the notes that sound good"). But I had no concept of the "boxes" (something else I learned many years later). Somehow I got it in my head that the "goal" was to find a way to play notes that were always 2 frets apart, and in order to achieve this, you naturally have to shift positions up and down the neck covering 3 or 4 of what most people learn as "the boxes". It just seemed like the natural way to go for me. While I can think of the boxes today, I still use that early learning to shift up and down the neck and I think it helps me build fluid licks and patterns that don't necessarily lend themselves to the "boxes".
Wow Uncle Benny Bob,
I think I might to actually get a handle on this one?
It is a lot like I have taught myself parts of "Malagueña"
Well about half of the notes & positions you are playing here; But similar.
Cool cool I will probably try to adapt parts of this lesson; to old "Malagueña". Thanks Man You are appreciated.
Thanks dude! You can do it!!!
First thing that popped into my mind when the video started was Eugene's Trick Bag. Learned it years ago, but still can't get it up to speed. The section you played wasn't bad, but that bit that comes after it is a beast. Even watching where the next position is, I land in the wrong place.
Great teacher, ur the best uncle Ben
Wow, thanks!
Amazing advice throughout the video. Thanks Uncle Ben! 🤘
This is awesome. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Awesome... and thanks for quickly covering this lick without the hybrid picking. Much appreciated! :) Also, I love the neoclassical etudes you come up with. They are amazing for the practice routine and sound.
Thanks Ben my alternate picking and position shifts are much more fluid now and the pick slanting vids are a big big help keep em coming!
Cool sound!
Best video ever uncle Benjammin
Awesome Demons shirt!
Love me some dope etude technical tips 😊
Another great lesson - thanks Ben! Easy to watch, not so easy to play.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome sauce
What would be the (Guitar)World without our good old buddy Uncle Ben..?!
This is just another *essential* horse of wisdom taking your play to higher spheres; Thanks again Uncle Ben!
It's amazing how clean your playing is Ben!
Hey, thanks!
@@BenEllerWhy you no play Sabaton? :(
@@voldanmalaknever listened to them! Suggest me a tune :)
@@BenEller Awesome! They’re a Swedish power metal band who make songs about famous battles and people throughout history. ‘Resist and Bite’ is my earworm at the moment. ‘Soldier of 3 Armies’ and ‘Shiroyama’ are also on the list. You’re in for a treat my dude! Thanks for all you do!
THAT FUCKING DEMONS T SHIRT THOUGH 🔥
Yeeeah! Got it this year when I saw Goblin perform the soundtrack live! Amazing show!
@@BenEller fuckin' rad!!
god damn those wild stepmamas
*UNCLE BEN!*
Hi!
Every time I think about insane position skipping it's always Rising Force by Yangtze Riversteen
Or MAB's random guitar acrobatic silliness
Love it!
Thanks!!
@@BenEller thank you too! I'm gonna practice it soon as I'm done my chores haha
Cool stuff. Pay attention to how far it feels between the shifts in the positions too. Its not that far up and down the neck as one might think It should feel. Kind of like singing. The notes aren't that far apart
Ah - lighten my grip. Makes perfect sense. Don't need the WD-40 anymore!
I start with an up stroke on that pattern.
How about the tabs for that last lick you played? Sounded great!!
Yes, I was gonna comment early before I finished the lesson that your stepdad speed wasn't the same as the hybrid picking in the demo. But I knew better and that you would get to it later on. 🙂
If you play the lick at 13:00 with the pick and UPWARD PICKSLANTING, it's crazy fast! I think easier and more efficient than hybrid
Great lesson! Ever thought about doing some of the late, great Alexi Laiho style lesson?
Shifting positions with my stepmom, that does that mean ..... you're my real Dad?!?
🎶Tone henge, where the demon dwell, where the banjees live and they do live well🎶
Hahahaha
Tone-henge lolol
Man, that stepmom statement was disgusting and informative. Well done.
Hey Ben,
Instead of the hybrid pick you say up stroke, why not down stroke, it seems it would be easier.
Awesome. Did you watch goblin do demons live this year?
Yup! Amazing show!
Look at next position was a very helpful tip. Should have been pretty obvious for a guy who have been Optometrist the entire career but... haha
Excellent video, Ben. Except for the mom joke. She doesn't know who you are. I checked.
Good video Uncle Ben whats the ax you're playing there???
Suhr modern terra
Is there a reason not to use down-pull- down-down picking (am a big fan of sweeping whichever way you already going)?
Great question! For me, it’s because it’ll keep the downstrokes on the downbeat. 1(down) and(pull) 2(down) and(pull) etc. Keeps the hand in a natural, constant state of motion and rhythm.
Hey Ben I was wondering when most great players pick a downstroke with pull off, the next note I is usually always a down stork.. is this because it’ keeps the picking organized?

Thank you ! You always explain it perfectly! I learn a ton from you !
Apparently, they know that the lemonade at Panera has a lot of caffeine.
Let's just be clear, the Panera lemonade is delicious and worth all health risks.
Ben I'm a folk guitarist.
I’m guitarist folk, so we’re pretty similar!
I'm a guitar folkist.
Yolo Mousemeat
@ 14:36 , what do you base that last riff on? I mean what scale? Just curious. 🙂
E harmonic minor!
Thank you. Yes E Hamonic Minor! @ 14:36 , One Sick Twisted Sixter! 🤘
Like and comment 1 for that gun metal shred machine.
Gretzky.......
@5: you really had to bring her up again? I thought we agreed not to discuss jumping across my step-mommas fretboard, especially on YT? You're wrong, bruh. Just wrong. 🤣 Watching/listening on a late lunch break for info & laughs. You provided plenty of both. (Don't promise her a pedal tone on her backside or Putin-annie, bruh). HappyMerryChristmaHannaKwanzakaa to you and my step-mom. I will never call you Step-Daddy again. 🤪
yes (🤣)
0/10: I missed the part where I grow wings
I only have one speed and my wife hates it cause it's extremely fast!
HEY-OOOOOO!!!!
How to not fuck up? Just an idea hahahaha
Hey uncle Ben are you a fan of 'Demons' by Lamberto Bava?(If so you are the coolest wanker in the galaxy)
Of course! I got this shirt when I saw Goblin perform the soundtrack live to the movie here in Knoxville!!!
TMI, leave my stepmom out of your mouth, 😂
How do you deal with shows on those nights where everything just sucks? - Sound is garbage, sound guy sucks, not feeling ready to play, conditions are not ideal, band mates and you are playing like crap, the weather sucks etc.? How do you get shows to where the sound is killer and your guitar sound is killer? It always seems like it's less powerful playing lyve than in the studio. I've only heard a couple bands with great lyve sound over the years, mainly Queensryche and Dream Theater. Playing these local bars always seems watered down and lame compared to seeing shows like Meshuggah or some such band. I guess it just boils down to how many watts your pushing, guitar rig and sound guy quality? But also how do you keep your shyte together when you feel like shyte?
Ah man, it sucks, but I assure you, it happens to ALLLLL OF US!!! Biggest thing to remember is that in 99% of the gigs we play, 1% of the crowd are guitar players that’ll actually notice. And even then, they’re probably 4 beers deep anyway hahaha don’t flinch and nobody will notice anything has gone wrong!
Little bit of hybrid picking going on there
Wait a second.. how many arms do you have Uncle Ben? Seems a little unfair..
