Sean, I can't wait to see that wall all finished out. I think that it would look amazing with the plaster, just saying. A secret door to the other side will be pretty cool. I'm imagining being a youngster and finding a secret door! Anyway... can't wait to see it.
It is wonderful to see this lovely little cottage coming back to life Sean, you are doing such a great job! I love the barn side too....all the beams are so beautiful and there is so much potential. You are really preserving this place Sean....well done!!
Plaster between the beams, rather than oak, would make them 'pop' so much more & look gorgeous. I loved seeing all the notches etc on that beam & hearing that they may have been repurposed. So fascinating, if only they could talk eh?
That will keep the drafts out whilst you continue working in the cottage! We have a 500 year old plank and muntin screen in our cottage. One side has the original unplastered oak planks and on the other, the planks have been lime plastered. We much prefer the plastered side as the contrast shows the muntins (vertical beams) off beautifully.
Sean I'd like to share a story with you. I chaperoned a class when my daughter was in elementary school. We went to an old school house where we were able to explore the additional buildings. At one point we were standing around and the children got a little antsy. So I engaged the children in a Q&A about what they were seeing. It actually got them thinking and I was pleased to see them putting their imaginations to work. The point at which your cottages are in reminds me of that day and how much the children found to be as excited about those buildings as I am about yours. Thank you.
It certainly is looking pretty good already Sean. It will look absolutely fantastic when completely finished. You certainly know how to sympathetically restore your lovely old buildings.
Excellent episode and progress! I loved the different views of the buildings! Most helpful and informative! It is looking fabulous! Thank you all! 😊❤👍💜🥰
Utterly fantastic, Hercules. I also have a 1-1/2 storey cottage house in Minnesota. Curved roof just over bed headboard...can hear the rain on roof. You and your renters are so lucky! Your hard work is absolutely stellar. Thank you for letting us into your life at Stonestown Chateau!!!
That upright beam you showed us, with "slits" and "plug holes" is exactly the same as a ceiling beam in my 400 yr old cottage, where cross beams would have fitted into the "slits" and dowels fitted into the "plug holes" , which were room dividers.
I am happy to watch this lovely cottage come back to life. Could not ask for a better caretaker. I enjoy these videos so much. They are my relaxing treat at the end of the day.
Hi Sean, I love the idea of plastering between the beams. It will contrast the beams and make them stand out. I think it will be beautiful. It already looks good. ❤
Such a clever solution, Sean!! You are thoughtful and very good at executing your vision of the final product. Can't wait to see it when you have finished the cottage completely. Stay warm and healthy this holiday season and thank you for taking us along with you on this special journey! Best to you, Sam and the rest of your family.
That is really looking good, Sean. You're quite good at puzzles :D So glad you decided to go ahead an close that end, it will make such a difference working this winter.
May be a possibility to box in a small section of the adjoining room for part of your staircase to give you more room to have a turn and landing that doesn’t take up so much room in the cottage
Yes to the lime render between the boards. I think that will look Brilliant!!

Hello Sean just wanted to say Merry Christmas Happy New Year 🌲 the cottage is coming together looking good.
Thanks, you too!
Lime render will give a lot of character to the room. Unless it is to heavy for the beams below it.

Looks great.🙂
