      I’ve been working with cattle and horses all my life. That was definitely the worst I’ve ever been hurt. Was sore for weeks, but thankfully healed well.

    That's a nice setup Cliff. I would love to see more videos of you working your animals in those pens and chutes.

    Very nice setup you have. A neat idea on one of The Shepherdess videos involved using repurposed grain bin sections as alleys and sweeps, something I think I could DIY.

    Very nice facility you’ve built!
    We’re running a herd of about 30 South Poll cattle and planning to grow it to about a 50 to 60 head herd. We also have about 40 hair sheep, which we’d also like to grow. Question: Would you be able to guide me to any sources for handling facility layouts? Ideally, we’d like to build one that, at least for the sorting pens, might work for both the cattle and the sheep. Thank you.

      I don’t think I have the expertise at all or know sources for a sheep layout. Probably best to visit some bigger producers.

    So I'm searching for gate latch ideas for our new arena and come across these great videos - the voice sounds familiar (and it's a great voice, very soothing especially for stressed out/worried people at the Vet. clinic)... then I realize my favorite Vet. is a UA-cam star! These are awesome, Dr. Honnas! I also got some ideas for keeping our waterers clean. I don't know how you do it all, but I'm a fan!
    P.S. Pistol and Dot Com are both doing great - going roping this weekend.

    Just 2 to tag a calf
    One to write everything down the other just walk up to it and tag it.
    Now if it’s time to cut the balls goes to the cow shoot etc same for the shot .
    Other than that if they get mean they are culled .
    But most of time we go to the cattle .
    Mine are that nice

    Cliff, how large is your spread (acre wise)? Really nice engineered pens and gates.

    • @cliffhonnasregenerativerancher
      @cliffhonnasregenerativerancher  2 роки тому +1

      I own 115 acres and use/lease an additional 85 acres but quite a bit of woods on some of it. Probably 45 acres grazeable acres on the land I don’t own.

    We’re thinking about setting up our handling facility and chute at the central junction of our pastures with the idea of conditioning the cattle to move through it as they rotate through the farm. The idea being that they’ll become less stressed when we actually do catch them in the chute as they become used to the facility. If we’d want to wipe their faces with essential oils, other natural fly repellent, treat for pinkeye, or other treatments; this might become a much easier process if the cattle aren’t as stressed out being put through the chute. We’d probably be running them through the facility about 6 or so times through the year going from one area of the farm to another. Does this sound reasonable for South Polls cattle that are frequently rotated or does it sound a bit optimistic? Thank you.

      @cliffhonnasregenerativerancher  Рік тому +1

      Extremely reasonable! I think that’s an excellent idea! I move my heard through my corrals to rotate pastures 12-15 times a year. They know the drill!! Much less stress!

    some cows can get real mean and hunt you down like a wolf tracking you,, my ex-father in law had a few cows like that in one pasture and nobody went in that pasture on foot or horse back,, yup, facilitys are a dream to work around,, thank you for the tips
