We have a Fuyu persimmon tree. I don't know of any pollinators nearby. Whereas our oranges drop small fruit, the Fuyu never has. One year we got about 700 and the tree is only 10-12 feet high. Last year about 250. This year hopefully 200. We probably need to fertilize it better or it could be the year's weather (in North San Diego County). (It gets Oasis laundry to landscape water for the last 5 years. Our fruit trees like it.) What we have to do is protect the fuyu from raccoons. Every year we put up more barriers. One summer I heard raccoons eating green persimmons several times a night for months. We started with a 10 inch high electric fence. But they were climbing the 6 foot fence right next to it and jumping over the electric. We put up a 10 foot high fence all the way around it, but the top half was the bendable plastic fence. They found their way inside. This year we put an electric wire along the fence, but I heard them get inside the 10 foot hard wire fence (2 layers hard wire to get to 10 feet). October 2021: On a whim, I took out our Christmas laser lights that I didn't like for Christmas and had planned to give away. I faced it towards the fuyu persimmon tree. It is on the setting of rapidly falling blue dot lights. I think this has solved the problem. I have not heard them out there and it's been over a week now. The fuyus are just starting to get ripe. I'd rather give them to human friends than raccoons. The raccoons left a huge latrine behind our fence while the pluots were in. Their feces carries a dangerous roundworm that can only be destroyed in the feces with fire or boiling water. The roundworm eggs can last up to 20 years in the ground.
My dad has a persimmon tree that’s over 15 years old, it’s always given 300+ persimmons each year. But this year everything was going good produced lots of flowers, but when the persimmons bulbs were around 3/8 inches 90 percent of them dropped.
We love you David, thank you for that timely piece of fruit tree facet. We miss Rachel! Hope her family way is going smooth. What an opportunity for your new baby to become a duel citizen.
My Fuyu persimmon planned 5 years in Washington State, I chose to plan it in a full sun area. It is grown a lot of green leaf and young fruits. It looks very healthy, but all young fruits dropped off the tree. I got a few fruit ripped, but it taste too astringent. I tried not water them too much and not fertilize them. Please tell me what's wrong? Thank you very much.
David last yr I experienced the exact opposite. My local persimmon tree held its fruit. Lots of it is still on the tree now in April. It turned into a dry leathery yucky nothing. It's had great fruit crops for about 4 yrs now that have all dropped in November. Any ideas ??
Very helpful information. Thank you. Our orange tree fruit dropped the sizes are pea or smaller. We did not know it was a baby tree, a nursery told us it was dropping fruits because I over fertilized, but I only followed the direction from the packet. This was 2 years ago and it's still dropping fruit as I speak. Yes the leaves are green and bushy tons of fruits but I think we'll end up with 3 fruits again this year ;( . Last year 2 fruits make it. And we only watered it once a week the most twice. Once the fertilizer dies out will the fruits still drop?
Hi Dave, my pear tree had a lot of baby pears at the beginning then it turn black and all the leave turn black and dried out. Do you know why and how to stop this problem? Thank you
my tree is in its fourth year and produced about 30 fruit and droped all but 2 and those 2 were delious , your explanations make sense ,and you dont look that dumb and i am sure your mother likes you.
This is the problem with my persimmons three, got a lot of fruit but most of it fell beside one of them got a crack in the trunk, actually got three, any idea or explanation why? Thank you.
None of the above answers. 20years of this persimmon plant I have, still dropping fruit with lots of TLC and good location. I understand if a little more than a few fruit drop but out of a hundred fruit, it may have at least 10 left.
Dave. When can I put the fertilizer on persimmon? My persimmons trees have a very small fruits ( 1" dia).please give me advice of these problems Thanks. Amolite
hey dave I've got a few pumpkin trees and they are dropping the fruits off, they drop off at marble size...they get yellow first them drops ..can u plz give me some advice as what i should do or use to prevent that...thanks ....
Pollination issue. If there are no male blooms, that could be the problem. Or a lack of bees. You can find male blooms, use a paintbrush to collect pollen, then touch it to the stigmas in all the female blooms.
I have 3 big pear trees that have dropped over 30 gallons of pears not ripe yet. They are the hard kind for canning that don't get real sweet and soft. They are an old standard for this area of central MS. What should I do with them before putting them in the new beds that I am making for poi elephant ears, canna lily and day lilies? They are in piles drying right now and are shrinking and turning brown. I don't want to have to dig real deep. IT will be in a low spot that gets plenty of moisture and holds a little water a day or so after a rain and is easy to water. Plan to let the plants invade the area pretty much take that area. Thanks
I'm not sure what you mean - are you talking about composting the pears or preserving them to eat later? Personally, I'd ferment them, then convert a pressure cooker into a still and make pear vodka!
Just using them as compost or something to put in the ground now because I have bulbs and rhizomes and roots that I would like to get established before winter. thanks
I have a 3 year old Feijoa growing in a large pot. This season it dropped all its fruit and the fruit was very small. Last season the fruit was reasonable. What is happening this season? Does it need more fertaliser??
Plant the American Persimmon because it makes a tremendous root system Then find a Japanese Fuyu bearing fruit, then cut a branch off it to create a scion and Ask David how to graft that to the American Persimmon tree. He Knows How its done!
It is probably a male tree. Wild persimmons are dioecious, meaning they some in male and female. It it were my tree, I'd graft in some branches from female persimmon trees. Then the tree will be self-pollinating.
Deeply, a couple of times a week when in its first year or two, unless you're getting regular rains. They don't like to be overwatered, though. After the first couple of years, I didn't have to water mine anymore.
It’s dropping persimmon fruit now in zone 7a but it is an old tree. It appears the fruit is semi ripe. What is your email and I can send you a picture...I’ve been in this area for the last 2 years and it has done it the same time year.
@@davidthegood Yeah the fruit itself not the bloom. It grows to about the same size as your in the video then drops. I'm so frustrated now I want to just chop it down
@@davidthegood No good what so ever, I cut open one yesterday, it doesn't even have seeds in it. At first I was saying that maybe it's to young but at that size it should have seeds. All I see are some small dots like you'd see in a banana/plantain. I don't really understand what you were saying about seedless fruits in the video. If there's anything you know that can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

your videos are so good, I love your sense of humor
Wow! I was just out looking at my persimmon this morning and they were dropping. This showed up on tube this afternoon. Funny how that works.

It may be taking a break - some trees just take an off year.
what variety of persimmon...? Jiro ..?

Yes - it's a good thing.
I like your presentation. Clear and explanatory. I'll ask my persimmon if they have any emotional problems:)
Love the Tree Voices! Cracked me up every time! They are just Straight Shooters...just tell it like it is...no beating around the bush! ;)

You're welcome - thank you.
THANK YOU, SIR
Root development is very important for growth and fruut . Till the soil and fertilize in 5 to 10 foot radius from the trunk.
You make me laugh. God bless you and your family. Thank for the info.
Lol. U r patient n humble. More power to u
Thank you. I was just telling my wife yesterday how proud I was of my humility.

That sounds like it's an American persimmon, which is the small-fruited variety. Do they ripen to orange at that size, or fall off?
They ripen to Orange. ,seeded but did not fall off the tree. Thanks

how to get ride of bates eating persimmons in large quantitiy, please guide
I have a 3 year old Feijoa growing in a large pot. This season it dropped all its fruit and the fruit was very small. Last season the fruit was reasonable. What is happening this season? Does it need more fertaliser??
Hard to say. It may be rootbound, which is causing stress on the tree.
my new grow persimmon raw fruit is gone. not in the ground and either in the tree. Where is it? I had like 10 small green fruit . not anymore
Maybe a rat😂
David, I love love love persimmon. Do you think it'll grow in South Florida?
Japanese persimmons would be worth trying. American, probably not.
Plant the American Persimmon because it makes a tremendous root system Then find a Japanese Fuyu bearing fruit, then cut a branch off it to create a scion and Ask David how to graft that to the American Persimmon tree. He Knows How its done!
I want to plant Fuyu persimmon tree in my backyard. What is the size of the mature Fuyu persimmon tree?
Usually only about 10-20' tall. You can keep them small with a little pruning, but they're not all that big in general.
My young persimmon's fruit was in it's first early stages. One day they were green. The next they were all rotted. This tree is fickle!
Does the tree have a wind break?
Would dropping fruit apply to dwarf trees since the eureka lemon i got has a skinny branch
Yes, many fruit trees have the same tendency. If they're less than 2 years old, it's better to just pick the fruit off and let it get bigger.
David The Good hmm oh ok
Great video...LOVE your shirt.
We planted a wild persimmon tree we bought at a nursery years ago and it is tall and produced lot of flowers and they all fall off what is wrong.

Is that a very productive jackfruit tree in the background???
Thank you.
The last 2 years had over 50 fruits on a Younger tree and only 3 matured to eat.

how often should the fuyu persimomn be water
