First off, thank you for your thoughtful and beautiful videos. I have been using Hobonichi planners for around 4 years now and find that using the pen that comes with the planner (it’s a Uniball Jetstream in .05) works the best for me. The Uniball Jetstream ink is an oil-based ink, unlike any gel or fountain pen, which are all water-based. Hence, why the Jetstream (the “Hobonichi Pen”) doesn’t smear at all. Once it’s dry you could spill water all over your planner and the writing would stay intact. You can also highlight over the Jetstream ink and once again, you will notice zero smearing, since the ink is oil-based. All ball-point pens are oil-based. I wish you best of luck finding your groove in the Hobonichi planners! They really are a well thought out planner! Oh, and I totally agree with you, I love the way the Hobonichi feels after writing in it with the Jetstream pen! ❤️
Thank you so much much for all of the great information! I LOVE that it doesn’t smear when I highlight over it, like all my other pens. I had no idea why :-) And thank you for letting me know its real name, this will make finding refills so much easier. lol!
Finally somebody who also experiences smudging of the Signo RT1! I saw tons of pen-tests on youtube and everybody rubbed over it after writing and praised that it wasn't smudging and I sat here with mine, rubbing over it after WEEKS even and it still created a mess. I thought I was crazy :-)
I don’t like the Jetstream pen that comes with the hobonichi because the 0.5 is too fine in this pen for me, for some reason. I had the genius idea to order 0.7 pen refills last week from JetPens. I switched out the refills and now I LOVE IT! I’m still using my fountain pens though, just sticking a piece of blotter paper in the book when I close it or switch to another view. I use the blotter paper as a bookmark, so there’s not really any extra steps for me. Thanks for sharing your pen journey!! :D
Thank you for watching! And using the blotter paper as a bookmark is a great idea. I watched a video of someone unboxing the 2020 pen, and they felt like it had a bolder ink in it. I haven’t tried mine out yet, but I’m excited to see if there is a difference.
great video! i'm so intrigued by the pilot preppy. my go to is the Zebra Sarasa dry. no smearing. bold and no skipping. it has a nice grippy feel on the paper! somehow that slows down my writing, and it comes out neater. Pilot juice is nice too, no smearing. and pretty barrel!
I searched for a light pink, but can’t seem to find one. That would be ideal! So if you come across a pink refill, I would love to know where I can purchase it!

I didn't know that, super helpful, thanks! :)

I still can’t find a use for that pen because it is so inky. Thanks for watching!

Marty Uchida Le Pens & Sakura Micron pens come in a variety of colors are quick dry and smear resistant ❣️✨
Oh thank you!
Sakura micron 0.1 or 0.2 is my fav. No smearing at all.
I love these too. Especially the fine point ones. I will have to give them a try again. Thanks!

I am soooooo intrigued by the idea of the Zebra Sarasa a Dry. Thank you so much for the suggestion! I can’t wait to give it a try :-)
I love the Squid sticker on your cover 😍 also, thanks for the pen recommendations!
I’ve had no issues with my Uniball Signo .28 maybe give that one a try.
I will! I like that it’s a .28 too!
What is the die cut in the front pocket of your cover? I love it!
Thank you! It is just a bear that I drew awhile back :-) I cut it out and laminated him.
Why don't you get a light pink refill for the Hobonichi pen? Then you'd have one pen to do it all!
I searched for a light pink, but can’t seem to find one. That would be ideal! So if you come across a pink refill, I would love to know where I can purchase it!
Pilot Frixion Ball .05 I order them from Amazon
I love the Frixion Pens! I don’t use them because they are not archival though :-(
Sadly you can't find the pens anywhere
Which of the pens are you looking for?
