I love your rule of not going more than 3 days without writing-I need to implement this for myself as I am getting older and memory is fading faster 😆❤️
I love the idea of using the tear-away calendar for journaling the day! So practical and a way to reuse the pages you’d just throw out anyway. It even add a decorative element.
I journal every single morning, I have to do it, it serves as a brain dump for me, my journal is my best friend, I can tell it everything good and not so good and it won’t tell a soul, it’s so therapeutic for me, I look forward to it.
This is true, Abby! The longer you wait to catch up on your pages, the more demotivating it appears and eventually its easy for you to just ignore journaling altogether. Thanks for sharing your rules to yourself for journaling, it doesn't seem intimidating so I might try it for myself as well. As always, great video :)
There were a lot of take aways from your vlog today....especially your daily journaling habit and not letting 3 days go by without journaling! Fabulous, and simple reminder . I like the idea of journaling in the evening with a cup of tea......I am going to re-watch this episode and take some notes...by the way, your videos with Job were super fun to watch!!!! You both speak so well and make a wonderful team!!~It is going to be Fall here soon and it is getting a little cooler here in NY. Be well.
Thank you for such inspiring video. I just got my first Hobonichi. I bought the A5, and now that I look at your A6 and see how cute it is, I feel like I made a mistake and should have started with a smaller one. You’re right-when using stickers, washi, and stamps, there isn’t much space left to write, which is perfect for me since I have no idea what to write. Also, I absolutely LOVE your idea with the tear-away calendar. I’m now looking for tear-away calendars! :)
It's okay, it happens! Are you planning to get the A6 in the future? I like how compact it is and I feel less guilty of not updating it as often. Yess get a tear-away calendar, it's really useful :)
@@AbbeySy I overspent on my stationary haul this year. Bough almost all hobonichi stamps they have, bought sets of VersaMagic ink pads, gazillion washi tapes, cute stencils from Kutsuwa, new zink printer. So I think A6 will wait for now. Also I am not entirely sure that the diary is my thing, but I think worth case scenario I will turn my hobonichi into a junk journal or sketch book. Thank you for replying! :)
I'm moving from A6 to A5 for next year and a little nervous TBH, I just kept finding the A6 wasn't enough space - I kinda think I need an inbetween (or just write larger scale 🤣
I love this! I’ve been wanting to begin journaling but I always feel like you need to have a lot of cute stationery to make your journal look pretty. I’ve collected so many journals that are sitting empty & this video really inspires me to start! Thank you! I turned 30 this year & I’ve been struggling with my emotions quite a lot and I feel like journaling would really help to regulate those emotions & appreciate the little things in life.
The stationery is optional, honestly it's really about how you want to write and document your life. I hope you find a way to be intentional with your journaling! It really varies per person, so if you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Super, super inspiring! I will do a quite similar Thing for next Year, also using a Hobonichi A6. Thank you for sharing this Journal here, it looks really great!
I feel like I’m going through something similar, except with my 20s. I’m making myself pick back up with journaling again now, and plan on setting that habit in 2025
So glad to see you online again! It is because of you and your videos, books and suggestions….that I am now journaling! I am so happy…and I owe you my thanks and praises for it! Thank you so much……Happy upcoming New Year!

More of my inner thoughts, something’s my kids shouldn’t read depending on the mood. I got a b6 and now rethinking the size but I’ll see I guess when I get it. I’m so excited to journal. Such a helpful share & how you journal. I have some fab brown inks at home but find myself using mainly black. How do you find/navigate playing with ink colours? I noticed that for some spreads you had used a darker/black ink and on the left a brown. I'm also trying to put together a light weight journaling kit currently so I ought to go back to your video with Job sharing what was in your pencil case, this would be more art sketching so I am thinking a passport traveller's.
Thanks!! :) Honestly...I just do whatever with inks. I like using warm colors as you can tell, but generally I just have a variety of light and dark inks on my pens so I can use them as I see fit Oooh fun!! Maybe bring a water brush and fineliner pen and some go to sketching tools :)
Thanks for sharing…it’s always interesting seeing other people’s journals and daily journal habit. Love your pens! I have so much trouble trying fountain pens 🤦🏼♀️ I like smaller chunky journals for my daily notes. I skip days when we travel so I just use blank journals with no pre-filled dates. I do better writing in the morning so I start with a daily affirmation or inspiring quote Ali g with setting my intentions for the day. I feel the same way with my Hobonichi Avec (first time using it this year) and I like reading entries about how much I've grown. And I need to implement the more than three days rule because I'll go a week without writing and somehow I'll find a way to remember what happened that week.
I do really well during the week staying up to date with my journal but then the weekend hits and I don't pick it up. Come Monday I have to back journal what happened over the weekend. Sometimes I remember and other times I just end up leaving it blank. I wish I could get better at stay consistent. Even if I get the journal out and leave on my desk I still put it off.
I feel you. Especially if something really crazy happens its like omg i need to journal about itt but ahhh its intimidating cus i want to make sure everything i write is as accurate as possible and i know itll probably take some time to write about it so then i put it off more and more 😭😭😭
The easiest and simplest advice I can give on staying consistent is to not force yourself, and start small. A sentence a day will eventually become a short paragraph, and eventually, a page. You can choose how to develop this habit and find ways to incorporate it into your routine without it feeling like a big chore you have to tackle! I always say the reason why I keep a journal is really so I can remember how I felt or what I did at a specific point in time. I don't know why exactly I feel propelled to document, but that why is strong enough for me to want to constantly update my journal and get some thoughts across. Hope this helps :)

Thank you for this video. I used a much larger journal this year and kept up with it consistently in the mornings. I'm thinking of an evening journal, the A6 Hobo like you have. What were you writing in the monthly layout? And what kind of fountain pen?
@AbbeySy interesting. I have a cousin. I think next year that's all I will use. This month, I'm writing in the win of the day, or the event of the day, or whatever was notable of that day - in the monthly.

How do you write so neatly with no crossouts or scribbles and without going over the page length? Do you write on another piece of paper first to get it right?
Idk I worked in publishing during my twenties and have been doing lettering for over 10 years now, maybe it helped? Hahah I hate using scratch paper, if I commit mistakes I just use correction tape
I don't understand how people have so much to write about in journals. Mine would be 'got up, went to work. Came home. Made dinner. Went to bed' for every day. Maybe I'm just not interesting enough? I dunno.... :/
"Nobody writes a book, people write sentences, they write paragraphs. Nobody has ever "written a book". Michael Lewis (writer of Moneyball). Sure I butchered this quote... It helped me though to build up my writing. Starting with just a sentence occasionly.
i write about conversations at work, how i felt excersizing, cool quotes, events with loved ones, feelings and emotions, things to tell my therapist, goals, wishlists. i also track water, when i go to the gym, my meals, prayer frequency, monthly money in and out, sex and period tracking, and track my usage of meds.
I do one line at time. Just noting little things i do every day. I use multi colored pens to make each line pop. It doesn’t have to be over the top entries. Just every day stuff; made a tasty tea, exercised, talked to so and so, printed inserts etc. you matter and your everyday habits, values and opinions are deserving of being remembered ❤
something i've tried to combat this is actually ask questions "out loud" on the page. whether they're reflective questions or just questions about something i'd want to know (about anything! it doesn't have to be deep). i think you can even do something like "how do i feel about the job market?" or "is this the kind of job that i want to do? What do i even want in a job?" and honestly, if you don't have a response to that, then that's as good a time as any to reflect on why that is and write that down.
I think it all boils down to your inner dialogue too. Why do you think your life is empty? It could also stem upon the idea that you think your life is boring/empty, and taking time to notice the mundane things that make it unique and truly your own. You can also choose to write about your day to day experiences like a reporter, or you can reflect on certain experiences that happened on x day or a week's time. Finding things to write about can vary depending on what purpose this all has for you, so the only way you can figure it out is by actually writing them down in a way that speaks to you the most.
