its a honor to have such a great guitarist performing brazilian musics! we have such a rich culture in a way that everyone who doesnt know it loses something on this person’s art appreciation experience in life. thank you.
Dear Tony, In the 9 months I have been gone, you are getting more handsome and playing a lot better! Where will it end? This was a pleasure to listen to! Thank you! All the best, Per-Olov
Me faça sofrer Ah, me faça morrer Mas me faça morrer de amar Xangô, meu senhor, saravá! It's so beatiful...I was sad but i am not anymore, cause now i can see a beauty of the nature and what art is... Congratlations, success for you and keep doing videos haha it's a food for the soul. -a brazilian guy
Beautiful job on a lovely arrangement. I agree that the Bellinati/Salmaso recording is one of the best ever. You turned this into a great solo guitar tune.
I remember a first recording I bought, it was a Berlin Jazz festival featuring greats as Jim Hall, Buddy Guy and also Baden Powell, he played fantastic with incredible precision and rhythm, right away I thought I have to keep checking out this player, afterwards I bought many of his recordings, all outstanding up to this day. Tony great you get your inspiration from all these fantastic players, very very good my compliments-Vic.
Parabens ! ! ! particularmente vc me fez reviver o prazer de tocar e deeenvolver motivos como estes deslizes q como fluxo de consciencia vai inscrevendo uma fisica do som q e tao EXTASE. Paulo Belinato to can do Baden Powell. Relembrando Baden Powell por causa da arte do guitarrista cantor e compositor Joao Suplicy.
Wonderful! You nailed it- thanks for sharing! One of my favorite songs in a CD full of stunners! I was singing along the whole time as if I were Monica (but without the great voice). Bellinati's harmonies are so delicious, no?
Salmosa's and Bellinati's Afro Sambas is also in my opion one of the greatest guitar voice albums of all time. I can't believe you transcribed this from the record, its hard to hear some parts when she's singing. Bravo. I'm playing though Consolacao now, from the sheet music mind you.
troubleclef I have an old collection of Baden Powell sheet music, it has 'consolacao' but for solo guitar. I suspect it was published long before the Bellinati album. It is essentially this version. So it is more raw and afro-centric than bellinati's laying which is more informed by modern techniques and harmony. private message me if you want to discuss further. And again, I am VERY impressed that you transcribed some of those tunes. Bellinati's playing is phenomenal.
Great choice of music, I'm going to have to listen to the full version with the singing now. Congrats on your 200th post by the way, I'm sure there should be more than this number though. Anyway, we hope you continue with your musical gifts with many posts to come.
Yes, buy that album at your earliest convenience. When I bought it back when it came out I listened to it every night about 3 times in a row. This was long before the readily available re-issue of Baden and Vinícius' original recording of the set, so the whole thing was way more mythic at the time. I *had* to know all those songs. And Monica's voice is hauntingly beautiful. Perfect. point 2: yeah, i've probably removed 30 to 40 clips over time. mostly vocals which were way too embarrassing. haha! thanks.
despite I played years the guitar I prefer piano because it's easier to find sounds on the piano for me, you are a real master because guitar has no secrets for you, anazing genius of the guitar!
You are an amazing guitarist, who has all my admiration! In this song I can feel so much love. Congratulations! I am your big fan! I wish all the best!
Santa doesn't leave pressies like this... Love it! Where did the beard come from though T?! That descending pick is quite hypnotising - a wee bit Bert Jansch-y.
Fantastic. You've introduced me such diverse composers! To my untrained ear, it's similar to something I found youtube that you might like: 'Jan Akkerman (1984)' and at 2.18 he lights into something very similar to this on acoustic in a pub. Was wondering if it's the same piece here, and if not; what is it he is playing and have you covered the piece. Kudos on this work.
Foi brasileiro em outra vida. Só pode.
É o arranjo do brasileiro Paulo Bellinati, amigo.

played so beautifully. this is what the guitar was invented for.

Great Bellinatti arrangement for a great Baden composition. And this one is a really excellent rendition! Thanks for that.
This is an absolutely beautiful rendition brother. Thank you so much for sharing.

the hardest part to get by ear was the part at 2:19

What a great guitar sound! Baden Powell for the win... :)
It's nice when you let see the whole neck of the guitar. So we can see the movement of your hands, giving ideas for playing the guitar.
WOW. Great playing Tony!
