It should be noted that Rusty COULD have Sally, and a bunch of other Women in the show, but his inner fear of success and childhood trauma holds him back.

He went “ew” at Tara Quymm when she had a seizure. JJ was also deformed and I think he empathized with Sally. The fact she was a scientist probably helped, too. I think he related to her - she was confined by Richard and JJ was confined by Doc’s body. I also think Doc has an avoidant personality, or avoidant attachment. He’s probably very uncomfortable with intimacy because it was never shown to him or modelled for him. Jonas was a playboy who banged a different chick every week. Doc never knew his mom. He’s always been alone, and so I think women who are a little *too* into him, like Myra or Sally, freak him out. “I likes my independence” is another way of saying “I’ve always been alone and I have no clue how to fit a woman into my life.” TLDR: Rusty is clearly disorganized in his attachment style. JJ, who never had to deal with Jonas’s nonsense, is capable of intimacy and empathy for Sally in a way Doc has been rendered unable.
Poor Sally. She was originally married to a man who didn’t love her. Had a crush on another man who’d play on her affections to get what he wanted. JJ was a good man (better than Dr. Venture Sr. and Rusty), but he was still flawed. He often took priority of his career over Sally and he left her cousin to serve as the generator for Richard's lab, never saving him.

I've just noticed that apart from Richard most of the Impossibles have twisted versions of the Fantastic Fours powers Sally can only turn her skin invisible her Brother Cody is in constant pain whenever he bursts into flame and Ned well we know what happened to him

The continuity of The Venture Bros is always great and you could see it in the little details. At the end of the season 1 episode where Sally is introduced, we find out she's pregnant, and in a later season 2 episode with the Grand Galactic Inquisitor, she has a son named Rocket. I always thought that those two episodes were the only mention of him. But at 0:12 we see she is several months pregnant at the Christmas party. To be honest, I never noticed that when I watched the actual episode, but I just now noticed when I saw this video compliation. Just goes to show that The Venture Bros put a lot of heart into their dialogue and animation details! Can't wait for the movie!😂
Personally i think the way he treated Dr. Qwyum was worse... the fact that they were childhood friends who already had feelings for eachother and he decides that she isnt worth it because she had a seizure as a direct result of their body guards causing a fight on her bed and lighting her hut on fire with everyone still inside.
