Before Russia got involved in the Ukranian civil war that began in 2014, i met a Ukranian immigrant here in Canada who had befriended my brother. Didn't take me long to figure it out considering that when I was still a young teen, dad (and us) were stationed in a German town that was one of the last to fall to the Russians, during the time the Berlin Wall was being built.
