That is a good looking Beaver. I always enjoy seeing videos with your pride and joy getting pampered. Thank you James for the tip with the non marring plastic scrapers and the sandpaper tip. Happy trails!
I spent 3 solid days with plastic razor blades - thinners - heat gun and petrol. The RV is great otherwise so was well worth it. Patients is everything.
TKS again for the info. Saw a Tiffin, on-line, for sale, that had a beautiful body, but the front end was butt ugly. Now I know what happened, maybe, and see there is hope for it. You really do a great job explaining things.
I removed the shield from our ‘01 Country Coach. Like you said, it’s work but doable. The Sun is definitely your friend. Mine was also much worse. Looked like the front of the Coach had been on fire before I started. They claim the updated stone shield does not degrade like the older stuff.
Are you going to reek cover the front there's a new product out there that a lot of high in detail shops use the film is extremely clear and will outlast the old course that's up to you on the UA-cam channel I do cars He had to put on his lotus He can't tell the difference. Awesome don't try using the plastic razor blades It's the angle and those things can flip over when they catch the paint and they will and then you're going to have a plastic razor blade trying to go into your skin if you're lucky it's dull If you're not well you're lucky again You're getting stitches and maybe mom will buy you an ice cream If you're a good boy and let him put the stitches in just kidding don't use the plastic razor blades.
Took me two days. My hands hurt just thinking about it. Using a heat gun was tricky but a little acetone mixed with mineral spirits made the glue soften nicely. I would never attempt it on someone else’s rv.
HA! I just asked about this video and you already did it. Still catching up on those videos I missed on the algorithim. Great info. Right tools, time and patience. Got it!
I enjoy what you do. My future plans are to get me an RV and recondition it. You give me perspective on the issues I most likely will encounter. Thank you.
So is the next video going to be applying new 3M film without bubbles, so it can go another 20 years with perfect paint underneath? No? I didn't think so. 30 or 40 years ago, I applied similar film, which was mil-spec and mainly intended to prevent erosion on the leading edge of helicopter blades. I can't remember what I put it on, but it wasn't a helicopter blade. Maybe a car air dam.
Yeah.. Thanks! I checked out the scraper set at Harbor Freight. They will work well on olde butyl tape removal on our park model RV that we are replacing windows! Single pane windows to dual pane windows that actually work. It is 37 yr old park model re-hab
Hi James , looks awesome! I have a 2006 Monaco (lol same assembly line as yours). I'm in the Midwest so mine is brown and yellowed . Are you thinking of putting a different shield on? I was looking into the newer self sealing nano kind. It looks interesting. If you get a chip you're supposed to pour hot water on it till it self seals.
Hi James, love the videos. Is that a Dash Camera on the Beaver? I am thinking about getting one. It would be nice if you did a review of yours for us. Thanks for great content.
The 3m shield needs heat first get a heat gun and it will help a lot. Also plastic razor blades and handle work a little better than the scrapers. But you will need quite a few of them. Now if you have the thicker Diamond shield heat is not necessary. I recommend the 3m adhesive removal also. Anyway it is a big job ether way, so take your time it’s slow, no other way to get there. Thanks for the video!!!!!
When I bought my coach last year I saw a Monaco at a dealership in Washington where they painted over it to cover the failing 3 M shield. Both colors didn’t match the rest of the coach either. When I saw that I just ran for the hills, because I figured anything they sell would be junk.
Good afternoon, I like all the videos you have shown use and learn alot from them. I have own 3 RV before but, they were 2 travel trailers and 1 fifth wheel. I'm looking at a 2000 Monaco Windsor 36WBS and having trouble finding its true value. It's extremely clean with low miles. Any help to determine the value would be great help. Thanks, please keep the videos coming.
Just when I thought I knew everything that there is to learn wow, and there is one more. Thanks so much James you keep teaching and I keep learning. James you ever heard of an Alpine by Western RV ? Older model I'm thinking of purchasing one tomorrow . I have seen only line that the tops are like Tiffin's . Do you know anything about this ?
Would a spray bottle work better to apply the solvent? I have a small portion that needs replacing but I'm contemplating removing and replacing the entire diamond shield. Looks like a lot of work!
If you have soft hands as well as wearing gloves put some sports binding tape around your palm where it might blister, or even wear two gloves on each hand.
@@volvo09 I called 3M. They have a paint protection specialty office. They suggested steam, plastic scrappers and 3M adhesive remover to get the remaining adhesive. They also said to try to work on a warm day.
I finally found what works. 3M decal remover wheel. Attaches to a drill motor. Basically an eraser wheel. Seems tedious at first. But it does not damage the paint and removes the adhesive too. The adhesive is where I had problems. Ended up hurting my paint and had to touch up the base coat and reclear the front. I could have avoided that if I had started with the 3M decal remover wheel....

Good info, getting ready to take my stripes off of my Alfa, this will help. loved the driving video at the end!
Glad you liked it!

James, it looks beautiful! I did the same with my Winn. Journey. Makes all the difference in the world. I love your coach!

There are also plastic "razor blades" that may help people, since they are thinner... But as you said there is no one solution to old adhesives
That’s what I used . . . the key is to turn the coach towards the sun and let it warm up in the film.

We love your videos! Thank you so much for the tips, tricks and hacks you share!!!👍
Beautiful Rig James !!! Great information, thank you 👍👍🇨🇦✌️🇨🇦✌️🇨🇦✌️👍👍
Looks much better James I’ve been looking at those scrapers for a while to remove sealant on the travel trailer and do a reseal nice job
James, would you please share information on your dash cam? I really need something pretty good and easy to operate. Many thanks
I used the plastic razor blades, and found the best time to do it was hot hot day facing into the sun,
Oh yeah, this is my next big project. Thanks for posting this one👍
Took me two days. My hands hurt just thinking about it. Using a heat gun was tricky but a little acetone mixed with mineral spirits made the glue soften nicely. I would never attempt it on someone else’s rv.
Yeah the potential for things to go wrong is always higher on somebody else’s coach.
Nice looking ride, enjoy the Coach and use it often

Looks awesome .....paint on your coach is amazing

Your coach looks great! They don't make them like that anymore! What a shame.
I have also seen coaches that what looks like mold on the inside of the film.
Gotta take good care of your Beaver!
OK question time: how do we remove cracking and chipping clearcoat off the bumper of our 2000 holiday rambler vacationer? It totally looks like crap.!

James, It looks way better! You need to get some 0000 steel wool and clean your windshield! Best wishes, Kevin
Would you apply a new protective film, that's non Yellowing.
How is the RV holding up. It still looks great for a 2001. I'm still waiting for the day you are ready to move on. Thanks for all your videos.
Question: do you plan on putting on a new shield?
Also, can you please tell me about the proximity sensor on your windshield?
Thats just a dash camera

Nice , smooth Beaver. Nice you cleaned the paint cover off the Beaver. Resist the urge to use metal blades on the Beaver paint cover
You're the man, great share!
Hard to imagine anyone going to California for a good time!!!
Now ready for some new PPF given that flat front end.

I had a detailer do it on my older American Tradition, 3 - 4 hour sessions like you did it. It looked like new underneeth it!
Another great video. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. Are you planning to install a new layer of Diamond Shield?
What a beautiful coach!
Just when I thought I knew everything that there is to learn wow, and there is one more. Thanks so much James you keep teaching and I keep learning. James you ever heard of an Alpine by Western RV ? Older model I'm thinking of purchasing one
tomorrow . I have seen only line that the tops are like Tiffin's . Do you know anything about this ?
How do you feel about plastic razor blades in a holder?
Just use Goo off. Spray on there and scrap off. Doesn’t hurt the paint.
That looks like a nice dash cam. What is it , if you don't mind me asking?
Are you going to replace it any recommendations on what/how to protect the front end paint.
The Niko Brothers used a small steamer to remove that film on several cars. It looked very effective!
What's the name of the solution you're using to remove the plastic? Can it be use to remove decals?
Would a spray bottle work better to apply the solvent? I have a small portion that needs replacing but I'm contemplating removing and replacing the entire diamond shield. Looks like a lot of work!
Yes a spray bottle is the best way.
That is a time consuming job. Looks great. Enjoy all your videos
Did you put anything on it after you removed it to protect the paint ?
If you have soft hands as well as wearing gloves put some sports binding tape around your palm where it might blister, or even wear two gloves on each hand.
You forgot to mention the "elbow grease" what no elbow grease? ... Hard work ie "Smart Hard Work"always gets the job done! good job and post.
Will you put Xpel on next to protect it?
I’ve used boiling hot water. It works well.
Thank you for posting this!!!
would a whizzy wheel work?
I did try an eraser wheel but it just melted and made a bigger mess
I finally got it done. Not rocket science, but it was quite the job.
thanks for the summary of what ya did..... there is too much crap in the world that drains ur energy levels..... so dont sweat it....
Looks great!
Ugly shield removal makes juice to do this. Based out of fort Myers, fl. They also remove shields too.
It was a pain, but it obviously worked for 20 years or so. I'd seriously consider putting it on again.
Probably not--I dont believe I will have this unit for another 20 lol
I love your BEAVER, not that there's anything wrong with it. Jerry and George.😂
Glad you got a vacation, a real one I hope. I have a question at 5:55 is that a spy balloon over your right ear? lol.. Stay safe and healthy Sir.
Nice RV🥰
Thanks 🤗
Suggest if you want to recover/protect the front: What about have the car wrap guys wrap the front in clear? Thoughts?
Thanks
I've been dreading this my mothers old Toyota has that on it and a few years of carwashes it looks like crap. . I was thinking goo gone
Patience my BUTT, ... I wanna SCRAPE SOMETHING! 😱😝😁🤪🤣👍👍🇺🇲
now cover with a new 3m guard
Nice 👍
That don't look like fun... That is a lot of hard work
Beware the full front end bra. It hides many evils.
It's basically a rotten plastic clear coat. 😁🥂
Do you think spraying with wd-40 would work?
WD-40 is not a solvent. It’s a fish oil lubricant that’s water soluble
@@MaryWehmeier this is true but works great to remove stickers off of cars
The clear coat on my 95 is absolute trash, needs power tools, repainted, reapplied.
Probably a good idea to put a label of sorts on the squeeze bottle you transfer the solvent to.
I would call 3m and ask the a question.
Doubt they would have an answer, they'd say it's an unsupported product. There is no single answer, every vehicles climate is different.

I used a 3M rubber device for removing decals. It left discoloration where it got hot from the wheel.
That stuff is a pain
so I think your thumbnails are a little creepy with the bug eyes..You have great eyes...let them shine...
WOW, Way too much work.
Are you being sneaky and maybe suggesting lighter fluid might work? naah you would not do that....
