My issue with Brandy’s voice is her diction/pronunciation and lack of emotion when she sings. She’s an amazing vocalist but I feel absolutely nothing when she sings live. Monica’s voice can be a bit pitchy at times especially if she’s emotional and feeling the song! Now let’s be clear, there’s no perfect vocalist AT ALL, every vocalist has a flaw. Both are still great vocalists nonetheless. However between the two ladies, I’d choose Monica simply because her voice embodies proper pronunciation/diction/clarity, she has the ability to sing in both a low register/high register, her voice has power and from a personal perspective she sings with raw emotion which is a rarity within itself. Two amazing vocalists with timeless music with different singing techniques but still two queens. You can’t mention R&b music without mentioning their names.
I’d have to go with Brandy. Her voice maybe less prowess of the two but her instrument is much more versatile, intricate, accurate and unique sounding, also my personal opinion Brandy‘s tone sounds heavenly while Monica’s can sound more so grating at times and it doesn’t help she tends to go off key Iive more times than expected, for instance you have your Kiki Wyatts and Beyonces who can Feel themselves in a song while still maintaining pitch and I do agree both are great singers and there is no such thing as a perfect vocalist (minus Whitney in her prime) also I think a lot of people not saying you, particularly, but people in general, some. Equate, louder, singing to emotive singing when it’s not the case. Brandy shows great emotive vocals depending on the song, I’d suggest listening to her song “deliver me”, it’s a gospel track showcasing how very much versatile Brandy is vocally
They both sound awesome
