    Horror films are supposed to scare us, it's right there in the name of the genre, after all. The whole reason we line up to watch horror movies is to experience the safe thrill of being terrified by fictional objects on a screen. It's all totally fake, of course, but there have been times when the scares hit a little too close to home, and some of the scariest movie scenes have even managed to frighten the actors and actresses bringing them to life. Here are some iconic movie scenes that scared the pants off the actors in real life...

    What about Psycho? The actress was so terrified she never took a shower again. She took baths but if she was a hotel where she had to take a shower she would leave all the doors open and the curtain on the shower open. Now THAT’S a true terror.

      also the viewer who was able to watch alien with no prior knowledge of it is completely shocked when they realize the guy has a parasite which no character immediately explains but the viewer puts 2 and 2 together and that is a shocking moment when they realize that something very bad had happened from the face hugger, because no other movie really did a parasite that bad before this, the shock of that can never be recreated because no in shocked by the concept of a parasite anymore.

    Dude! You forgot Jurassic Park (1993) when the T Rex animatronic accidentally broke the top windshield of the car and scared the child actors. They weren't acting, they were genuinely terrified because that wasn't supposed to happen. However, Spielberg left that part in the movie because of how raw and genuine the scene was.

    • @Whitneypyant
      @Whitneypyant 6 років тому +47

      RTNANDEZ96 judging from what it looks like they are only including planned scares. Alien scene was planned. Jurassic Park wasn’t planned by Spielberg it just sorted of happened.

      No the children were acting are you seriously suggesting that if the glass hadn't broken you as a child wouldn't be sacred with a giant t-rexs head coming through the top of your car?? The fact that the glass broke on one corner only added to the scene's authenticity otherwise it was as planned as you can get.

    • @victhebric66
      @victhebric66 6 років тому +39

      Devonian No they weren't acting. Steven Spielberg himself says that in an interview along with countless videos on UA-cam explaining the scene. How about doing your research before you make a fool of yourself.

      I keep that one and Tommy Boy's *GASP* "What did you DO?!" Handy at all times. They work amazingly well. But then again, I will fart and blame random children. Even as I type that I am giggling. The most recent victim was in a movie theater after the show. We were leaving, some children were in front of my brother and I, I cut loose a fucking bomb, my pants acted as an echo chamber. I see the kids in front of us desperately trying not to look back, so of course "Man, that little boy does that again he'll take off like a rocket!"
      They laughed, we laughed, other strangers laughed, it was a good time. I'm sure he'll never trust an adult ever again.

    Before I’ve watched it I’m just going to state I’ll be pissed off if The Shining doesn’t make this list, Kubrick nearly broke the damn woman while filming that, she suffered PTSD and severe stress during and after the filming of the movie, sheds REAL tears , had massive arguments with production team and when they got her to the point of breaking, decided to start filming the scene. The snowcat scene near the end, those are real tears and anxiety showing!

      Smackeddie
      The scene on the stairs where she's backing away from Nicholson and feebly warding him off with a baseball bat was filmed over 120 times. And that was after Kubrick got her upset and crying then started the scene while she was already hysterical!

      If you are referring to the directors that are terrifying their actors...if they want to act, many are willing to do what it takes.
      We have method actors out there that prep themselves by living in the conditions of the character they will be playing in order to give their best performances.
      One such actor, Heath Ledger. He did this very thing to play the Joker and was not right in his mind after. That is even hard for me to write, because, he is one of my all time favorite actors. The producers and directors love this and they will push this further, for the most authentic and believable results to be brought to the screen. If you do not like it, you do not work for those people.
      I am not sure if they are doing that so much now, but, why fix what is not broken. Broken to them would be, if they did not see large amounts of money going into the bank accounts, only out...

      There are worse examples.
      Read this section. Lots of
      examples. For instance,
      filming The Exorcist,
      William Friedkin kept a

      random times to keep
      them nervous and jumpy.

      I was just about to write about this. In the scene where Damien Karras is startled by the phone ringing, what actually happened is that Friedkin got someone to fire (or fired himself?) a gun near his head, scaring the daylights out of Jason Miller, making him turn around with a shocked look.

      We are talking about a movie that was made in 1980. Things have changed up a bit. Hey, one thing they have not really talked about is the drugs. How many had to take drugs to play their parts? Oh, and I am referring to the little kids. I know, this is about what terrified actors. While talking about conditions and what is not right or wrong, you step into that world and there is so much that is not like any other work space you will find. Want to walk off the job because a director scared you, hurt your feelings or you are just not happy, unless you are in high demand and the director/producers are in need of you, you suck it up.
      So, at the end of the day, you do what you do to get to the top. Not always, but, a good deal of the time, you put up with more than you would in other job/career choices.

    Shelley Duvall in The Shining. Pretty much all scenes. She suffered emotional torture by the hands of Kubrick and Nicholson. She had a mental collapse after the project which never really healed. Sheryl Lee in Fire Walk With Me, the murder of Laura Palmer. She was genuinely scared that day, and some others even though Lynch is a sweetheart to his cast.

BUT you should watch the dark knight because it’s just a great movie in general, then it’s a great superhero/comic movie and heath literally left the world with the best acting performance he’d ever done. Even if he was still alive I personally still think he wouldn’t have been able to top what he did in the dark knight. It’s been eleven years since it came out, the hype had died down a little. Check it out! It’s even on Netflix at the moment

I wish we could hear that scene though because Philbin says that when she took the mask off Chaney he made an inhuman noise that sounded like it was coming from everywhere at once and it terrified her along with seeing his face and I think that would be so cool to hear.
