Thanks to OmegaKingAuldron of the Tales subreddit for making the post that inspired this fun little video 😘 *If your party was made up of only your least used characters from Tales, who would be in it and how would it perform?*
Jay RPG sorry I’ve only played 2 games so far and I haven’t finished either one of which I don’t own anymore and the other I just forget to start play again, the one I don’t own anymore is Xillia 2 and the one I have is Besaria and from that one my least used one is, Laphicet.
Well I've only played both Symphonia games, Vesperia, and the Abyss. It's kind of hard to include Dawn of the New World in this. If I were to take Symphonia, Vesperia, and the Abyss, my party would be Zelos, Karol, and Anise.
Mine would be Anise (Abyss), Malik (Graces), Dezel (Zestiria) and Eleanor (Berseria). I doubt they would perform particularly well together, but having really not used them much at all I'm not too sure...
let's see...least used character in each of the Tales games I've played: Legendia would be Jay for sure. Can't stand him (or Moses TBH). Symphonia would be hard to say b/c I don't particularly like anyone other than Sheena. Abyss would be Guy. He's a great character, I just never used him. Graces would be...Richard, followed by...nobody, unless we can change the rules to being not-player controlled, then Malik. The AI is great at nuking the screen with him, but I hate using him manually. Xillia would be Alvin. Just never liked him. Xillia 2 would be Elize. She was nerfed pretty badly for the second game. Zestiria would be the wind one for me too. TBH I only used Edna b/c heals and maintenance and Mikleo for water armatization, but Lailah is bae and the wind seraphs just didn't do much for me. Berseria...Rokurou and Eizen. Go figure. I got the platinum for the game, and I had to grind titles so much longer for those two b/c I had almost never used them until that point. And it's not that I had a problem with them at all, I just needed Laphicet, and really liked Eleanor and Magilou (she ALSO is great at nuking the screen on AI). Taking some of them as a party, we could have a lot of parties composed of heavy-hitters and jack-of-all-trades types, with one mage and poor healing.
In all Tales games I've played I always swapping characters in and out, no one sitting on the bench for too long so I don't have rejected party but when it come to the characters I preferred to control them myself, most of them are the girls who can fight at close range . lol
Agree. I liked to use everyone though there is one character I almost never used and that was Raven. Magic ws done by Rita, and melee was nicely covered by Yuri and Judith who just did more in terms of physical damage, at least Carol (Karol?) is useful for that section when Estelle is gone, otherwise he just never did it for me, same with Chester Barklight.
@@Marcelo-rs8yh Nah I used Repede some. I was discussing who I almost never used so Repede was not mentioned. I used Repede as an item chucker and thief though I guess I should have mentioned him. Though is my TOV ps4 run I used Raven quite a bit as some of the boss challenges required him.
I usually switch out characters every now and again, but there are always those characters that I'm like, "Ugh, I have to be fair." I guess I'll pick the 4 I remember not wanting to play. 1. Colette: Symphonia- She was just not an interesting character to me. I didn't hate her, but compared to the others she seemed kinda dull. Even Presea when her emotions were sealed were more interesting. I also did not like her playstyle at all. 2. Anise: Abyss- She was so annoying. Her playstyle was unique and I considered it to be playing more so as Tobunaga instead of Anise, but her being a whiny brat made me not want to use her. 3. Kor: Hearts- I may be the only person with a main hero on this list. I honestly don't really remember anything about his personality nor do I think I disliked him at all. But if I can't remember anything about him it's because he was not in my party. I switched to Ines as soon as I got her and really liked her. Then I tried Chalcedony and fell in love since I could be the healer and melee attacker. Compared to a flying knight, beautiful tank, or robot dog (I had Kunzite in his Repede costume the entire time of course) Kor was too bland for the party. 4. Shirley: Legendia- Not only because you get her extremely late in the game, but because, like Colette, compared to the other characters in the party she was just so boring. But Shirley even more so. Like at least I cared for Colette. For Shirley it's more of a "Oh yeah, you exist."
I like Colette as a character, but in battle she seemed really awkward. Also, the fact she's extremely clumsy, and still participate effectivelly(or not) in battles didn't really make sense at all. As for Shirley... Man, I had the same reaction. She annoyed me from the beggining to the end of the game. Wish we could play with Giet(Moses wolf) instead of her. Also, all she could do, another character could do better.
In my runs of Abyss, I honestly found Luke a lil bland. He was arrogant (but not so arrogant that it was amusing) and his fighting style seemed like a generic swordsman who needed to be “cool” so they added all the flames. He’s still really powerful, I just had more fun playing with the styles of all the other characters. When guy came into the picture, Luke was basically benched. But because he’s the protag, I kinda had to keep him leveled.
Giet was awesome! But I understand why he wasn't. I'd have loved him or any of the Oresoren. Even Ed or Isabella I'd have preferred, and I kinda found them annoying. If they ever remake Legendia I hope they add those two as playable though.
I think that was their intention was to not like Luke at first and then eventually as he grows and learns you start to like him a little more. He acts as a spoiled child because technically he is one in a sense. I understand not liking him, but I personally do like him. But it's funny because as I grow older my opinions of characters change. Like my first playthrough when I was a younger, I liked Anise. I thought she was cool. And I really disliked everything about Natalia. But then when I replayed Abyss when it came out again on the 3DS 6 years later I realized I hated Anise and grew extremely fond of Natalia and sympathized with her and her emotional struggles.
I agree- with that famous haircut scene, Luke became a much better character and really grew to became a welcome addition instead of one forced on you. It’s just out of everyone in the cast, I like him least. Not by much- it’s just I find other characters more interesting or complex - Jade/Tear, more relatable- Our beloved princess, or just more fun!- Anise/Guy. Anise is basically the personification of an internet troll, in her over the top exploits and her outright abrasive personality. I just found her incredibly entertaining because she brought out reactions and opinions in the cast we would have never seen, as well as being funny in the fact she’s being annoying to mislead and distract everyone from her true purpose and just for fun. She was also just great in the way she never felt overly malicious in her brand of annoying humor- unlike so many annoying characters that only detriment the plot in other games. TBH she reminded me a a smaller, saltier version of Maya Fey and I kinda grew to appreciate her a little bit. She is also far more multi dimensional than most realize when you get father in. Guy- Just plain fun and funny. An utter badass with a shtick that was used well enough without beating it to death. He was earnest yet secretive, but loyal to a fault! I also appreciate that his character depicts sword discipline and katanas accurately. Sword techniques take time, diligence, and years of both study and practice. Katanas are not very powerful, despite what anime shows, the are fast, sharp, and graceful- swords that require skill. I was honestly pleasantly surprised by these attentions to detail. Eventually appreciation grew to love. Thanks to him and Lon qu, I have a newfound appreciation for the “Straight Swordsman-Badass Who Has a Phobia of Women” archetype. Jade- Just a straight up badass. Intimidating and cold at first, then he just becomes such a sarcastic lil shit- and I LOVE HIM. First playthrough I had never played a tales game before, so I really struggled to work with his slightly sluggish early game artes. Second playthrough? Best Boi. His interactions with Anise where he was seemingly the only one to take her seriously- pure gold. Nad- She seemed a lil needy and overbearing at first- but I figured that most “Royalty Forced Out of Their Element” characters are insufferable at first too. So I waited. Ten minutes after her introduction I knew she was joining the party and that I was HYPE. When she finally got her stride in the party, I knew she had a permanent spot on my team- An Princess who can dish out the good heals while building up magic by shooting people with arrows?! Later she gets much more fleshed out, but TBH I hated her until I figured she was a party member. Tear- Her character got dangerously close to overwhelming levels of Edge. However, she was honestly the most helpful and real personality behind a tutorial that I’ve ever seen. She’s frank, calculating, and never too unreasonable. She’ll give you credit when it’s earned and call you out when you are stupid. Her voice actress and her Song Artes were honestly iconic and greatly outweigh how cliche her family drama can feel at times. All in all, a character that I respected, that just really grew on me. Honestly, I really don’t hate any party member in this title. They all have some niche, and all get skills that make them all equally viable- (Tear was easily replaced by Nad, but was brought back into the party when she stated getting those good tunes) All in all, loved the cast and the game- and feel it deserves most of the praise it gets, but maybe not all of the criticisms.
Jay RPG Not with me once a new character appears I make sure all are equally played. XD Even if they're hard to control I try and at least keep playing them. ✨
Finally, there's someone out there that doesn't hate a character for being "annoying" or " too nice". Seriously, I can't stand that mentality, especially hating someone for being "too nice".
For the 4 tales games I've played: Guy- fine character in story, but he was too close to Luke in gameplay and didn't really have a good enough moveset to give him a slot in my party Magilou- I didn't really like her personality, and in gameplay, she was trumped by Laphicet in every way. plus, Beseria is always that game where I don't normally go with a three-caster build. Norma- wow I really have a hatred for the boisterous caster, huh. yeah Norma did not spend much time with my party, especially with how janky the magic system was in Legendia Presea- I messed around with her for a bit, but she mostly chilled on the bench. I wasn't really a fan of how slow her combos felt, and even when I went for a physical build, I usually had Zelos instead of her. my team would be decent, but not that great. also Norma would probably drag the entire team down, since at least Magilou has decent spellcasting ability. Norma was just kind of shit. Guy is decent enough, but early on he does not have much variety. Presea would probably be the one carrying since her damage output is insane.
1. Regal: Symphonia He came in late game and I had no desire to build him up as I was already content with my party setup, the kicking moves were cool but it wasn't enough for me to spend time investing in him. I do however really like him as a character. 2. Lailah: Zestiria I liked her as a character but Edna and Mikleo and Zaveid were much better to fuse with IMO. I don't remember her abilities to well either. Edna also had a perma spot on my team because...well she's kawaii. 3. Malik: Graces He...felt like a shoe in. *"We need a bara with a beard I guess so let's add him to the party."* Very uninteresting IMO. 4. Karol: Vesperia I was focused on DMG and healing comp so there was no reason for me to rely on Karol, like at all. Best girl Rita was always in my party and Repede actually put in some work. It seems my team is focused on damage with very weak defenses.
Aww. Not See ya Leia! Thanks to combo videos and learning from them, Leia is one of the most fun characters I have used, more so in the sequel. I do have some rejects, but too lazy to make a detailed post about them.
Dang I love Leia so much I'm surprised she is kinda the least loved on Xillia because I loved everything about her and she had crazy artes and air combat. I have to say I tend to not play main characters or men the most. I usually make a party of all the girls if I can and it is usually awesome and works well!
I won't be able to fully commit to this because I'm only played and beaten three tales games in life so far which are: Tales of the Abyss Tales of Phantasia Tales of Xillia In all honesty, I think its just my gamestyle but I try to use all the characters evenly regardless if they're good or not. I think its just a little quirk of mine that I try to level up all my characters in an rpg at the same rate because I always seem to find a use for them and I will select them even though they may not be the best option for the situation I'm in. With regards to my least favourite characters out of the tales games I have played. Tales of Xillia (Rowen) - I think my biggest problem with rowen is that he was a jack of all trades character but whatever he had there were always better options. I found elize had better spells, and i found alvin, jude, and milia better attackers. Its really funny that you mentioned Leia because she was definitely one of my most used characters in Xillia because she had a team up move with Jude that I found was incredibly broken and would destroy groups of enemies in quick succession. Tales of Phantasia (Chester) - I just found him incredibly weak, and I would only use him if necessary but once Suzu came into the party i had a much better physical attacker and he would only come into the party if I needed him to stay on par with everybody's levels. Tales of the Abyss (Anise) - The funny thing with Anise is that her dolls did a significant amount of power, but I always preferred Guy over Anise because of his speed. I found Guy significantly weaker but I found anise way too slow and her doll attacks would have very poor accuracy. A great idea for a video all the same.
I chose my 4 favorite Tales games, I noticed they are all my least favorite characters from their respective games lmao: 1. Presea from Symphonia: She's just too slow, even tho her damage is insane. Plus the AI handles her well enough. I also don't like her personality lol. Favorite is Lloyd. 2. Judith from Vesperia: Weird combos and I didn't feel like she did enough damage. Why play her when I can own with Yuri or Rita without having to feel like I'm playing a fighting game with setting up her combos. Favorites are Yuri, Patty, and Rita. 3. Tear from Abyss: Her healing is outclassed by Natalia's on higher difficulties, and her normal damage ain't great. Favorite is Guy/Anise. 4. Rowen from Xillia 1/2: Didn't like his spells and he was boring as character. Favorites are Elize in 1 and Ludger in 2. This team would actually make a decent party since there's two frontlines characters, 1 mage, and 1 healer.
TBH- The only Tales game that I’ve truly completed has been tales of the abyss, so I can’t really do this effectively, however- I can discuss the reasons that I left the characters I did on the bench. Jade- While he had some of most useful arts, and by far the most magical *punch* he was honestly a lil too *meh* for me. Early game I always thought his spells were a lil slow, so I replaced him first chance I got. Luke- More often than not, I found myself preferring Guy. Even though his attacks were less powerful, his speed and movement were just amazingly fun. (Honorable mention) Tear- In the end she became my favorite personality- however I really didn’t particularly enjoy playing as her. Once Nat joined the party- I found myself enjoying the Archer Princess far too much! Nat just had more range and slightly more interesting interactions, as well as being a debatably equal/completely outclassing tear as a healer, as her heals came quickly and often due her ability to attack more quickly from a safer distance. Tear was still used often late game when I got her pendant and Songs in order. Defending Myself: Anise- Good GOD I love her! She is probably one of the less complex characters in the cast, but she was my favorite for the majority of the game! Her fighting style was one of the most fun, as even though it could be far too slow at times, you could really feel the weight of her punches. The concept of this tiny prepubescent goldigger who fights riding a giant doll ending up having some of the most attack and defense in the game, both highly amused and impressed me. She’s the best Tank in my party, and I really relied on her to sponge damage so I could practice/preform long casting artes. Unpopular opinion, but she was always a staple in my party to the very end.
finally someone else that uses anise. i actually hate her character, but in-battle shes always"fighting" with guy for my preference, once she gets the regen doll shes unstopable. that said i prefer guy for bosses, that speed...
I can understand Luke for Guy but Jade? I've played abyss and used everyone equally if Jade is built right he's easily one of the more damaging characters in the entirety of abyss out of the main cast
I love natalie a lot to i kinda mained her right when i got her and i liked her personality and look in the opening video. Also I think Anise is very original in everywat so I liked her a lot.
As often as I do swap characters in and out, I do have what I dub 'reserve team B' members. They currently consist of five characters: Presea and Regal (Symphonia) Anise (Abyss) Leia (Xillia) Rowen (Xillia 2) How screwed am I? Pretty screwed.
I might be pretty limited, since i only have played half of the tales of series.. but for those that i have played, the following are my least played.. 1. Karyl Sheeden (Tales of Destiny) - His artes starts of as funny, but gets annoying as the game goes.. 2. Zelos Wilder (Tales of Symphonia) - For me, Zelos, Kratos and Lloyd are very similar to each other, Lloyd and Kratos is fun to play more as than Zelos. 3. Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear (Tales of the Abyss) - I liked Tear more as a healer than her, and Jade has deadly long range attacks than her. The only time i used her is when tear is not in the party. 4. Lailah (Tales of Zestiria) - oh boy.. where do i start? Aside from the secret that she is not divulging on the start of the game, she's not that interesting.. Her healing artes leaves a lot to be desired.. Plus she gets annoying when she continues to change the subject when it comes to the previous shepherd or maotelus.. I mean, she can just say that she can't say anything because of her oath, not change the subject so abruptly.. This team looks pretty good, but aside from Zelos, damage will hard to come by..
I haven't played all of them, but so far 1) Regal (Symphonia) - He joined so late into the game I was already in my comfort zone. 2) Malik (Graces) - I always played as Asbel, had Hubert and Cheria, and if it wasn't Sophie, it was Pascal was used more than Malik. So rip. 3) Surprisingly, Alvin. He so frequently just left that I ended up adapting w/o him. 4) I guess it's too easy to say Alisha. Oh well. I used everyone else a lot. And I love Dezel's hat :(
The 3 I hardly used in Vesperia were Repede (regret this the most due to his Thievery Arte being useful for farming materials for Synthesis) Raven/Schwan and Rita. I just love using the others better. They have a better build for my battle style. Always controlled Yuri unless I needed to do secret missions for the knight title that requires me to switch to a different character, Judy is a more competent battler and I ship her with Yuri, Estelle was the typical combative doc of the group and Karol was Brave Vesperia's CEO. Never disrespect your boss
My Tales would consist of Regal (Symphonia): He joined late in the game and by that time I had my set team. Karol (Vesperia): Karol's annoying and he's a slow character in battle. Anything he can do, everyone could do better. Leia (Xillia): Last to join. I also felt like she had no real reason to be in the party after Milla got better, except for one part late in the game. Like I said for Karol, everyone could do what she could do better. Eleanor (Berseria): I was convinced that she was the traitor so I never used her. When I learned she wasn't. it felt too weird to use her. So she was only present in 1 fight, and that was because we had only 4 party members. I didn't use Xillia 2 and Dawn of the New World because they're sequels. I also didn't use Zesteria because they make it a thing to need to use everyone equally. And for Graces, I only could use 4, but if I could have 5, it would be Hubert, but just barely. Everyone is great to use in Graces.
Ok so for each game I’ve played these are the characters I don’t use *often*, not that I avoid them but just don’t use a lot: Suzu Sheena Lailah Rokurou and I’ve used everyone equally in Vesperia
I only just finished playing my first tales game. Vesperia, which I bought on a whim during a jrpg kick. But here goes. Karol, Raven, repede, and Judith.
Regal (ToS) - By the time I got him, my team was really well rounded and fitted my playstyle, trying to force Regal into my comp would make it feel janky. Rowen (ToX) - in terms of magic, why would I ever replace my adorable little Elize, and in terms of melee, literally all the other characters. Gall (ToHr) - easily my least favorite in the Tales series, didnt use him much Dezel/Zaveid (ToZ) - I love the characters and their designs, but hated how they came so late in the game and switched off, felt really off putting to use them
What?! The party isn’t the same without Leia, Zelos or Hisui! I’d have to say that I almost always bench Lloyd, Beryl and Rowen in their respective games. I’m pretty active on rotating my party around a bit. Great video, though! Try out playing as Hisui-he’s super fun!
If i had to choose from, i will pick one per game as i played plenty. Suzu, Kongman, Chat, Loni, Lloyd, Annie, Moses, Tear, Karol, Pascal, Alvin, Muzet, Dezel/Zaveid, Eizen and a tie between Rondoline and Couleur as i dont use them if Phantasia heroes are available. I guess my all star team of 4 mains and 2/4 sub characters would be Alvin, Zaveid, Suzu and Tear in the main team and Muzet and Kongman in the sub team. Maybe Pascal and Rondoline as well if we get 4 sub heroes as well.
I find it hard to experiment on Tales games, often only swiching out the main character if I'm forced to do so. (Especially spellcasters, since many of those games don't teach you how to targer spells, cancel, etc)
Repede, Milla, Rowen, Asbel, Genis, Tear, and Zaveid... Actually a fairly good party. I tend to use the slower or gimmick based characters so quite often I never use most of the actual mc's. I do sub in Yuri pretty often until Patty or Judith is available though but other than him I don't use them.
If I have to pick some from the Tales games that I've played(not counting Radiant Mythology), it would be Chester from Phantasia(or in this case, Phantasia X), Chat from Eternia, and Anise from Abyss. If Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X can be counted, then Rondoline would be it I guess.
I usually add characters with the most relevance to the plot at the time. For the newer tales games along with the first statement, I put the optimal characters on my team. As for the 4 characters I use the least they would be Presea, Mikleo, Natalia and Muzet.
In no particular order: Legendia: Had Shirley not joined the party, it would have been Moses, but Shirley beats him out in terms of uselessness. Nothing unique about her other than her eres being pink versions of other characters'. Benched her the first chance I got. Abyss: Natalia. She shoves her way into the party and offers an atrocious fighting style that has the rest of the party carrying her. Sold her equipment and kept her as a camp healer to save on the cost of gels. Xillia/Xillia 2: Ludger. Were it not for the overpowered gimmick he gets as his reason for even being in this game, I'd have just benched him 100%. Instead I just used Jude as much as possible and only used Ludger for the boss fights where he has to be present. Boring character, useless fighting style. Before he came along I benched Leia the most. Symphonia: Colette. She trips over her own shoelaces for half the game. When she finally gets past that, Genis and Raine are much better choices. Zestiria: Edna. Couldn't stand her as a character and she's not that great on the battlefield. Should have been her who got gacked and replaced with someone else instead of Dezel. Graces: Pascal. Of pretty much all the offensive casters in the series, Pascal ranks up there with Shirley as one of the weakest. Even Hubert is better at range than she is. Berseria: Velvet. Could they have made a more gimped main protagonist? More or less all of the other characters in this game outshine her. Arise: Kisara. Basically a battlefield sponge best left standing still and attacking while the rest of the party does the dirty work. There is a permanent imprint on the bench reserved for her.
I have not played all the games but based on first few playthroughs. Its Nataila Kimlasca from Abyss. Zelos Wilder and Genis Sage from Talea of Symphonia. I have played Tos about 25 times now. I evenually started to use Genis after a while. Last one being Jude Mathis from Xillia. I played Milla's story first. Not sure what to make of my mix.
From the Tales games that I remember well enough, I'd definitely have to say: Regal (Symphonia)- I didn't care for his fight style overall, though he's my brother's favorite character. I also had no desire to train him up when you finally get him. Anise (Abyss)- She annoyed the ever living daylights out of me. Luke was pretty bad too, especially at the beginning, but Anise was definitely only used when absolutely necessary. Edna (Zestiria)- I know a lot of people really like Edna's character but I found her the most difficult to use in battle and the least lined up to my play style. Lailah was a close second but her armitization made it work. My favorite to fight with was definitely an armitized Mikleo. Magilou (Berseria)- to be honest, I only recently started this game and am still partway through, but I don't think I'll be doing much fighting with Magilou. I think it'll be a rough go with this party. Apparently I tend to bench some heavy hitters, so only one mage...
Karol from ToV Rokuro from ToB Pascal from ToG Anise from ToA Conclusion is that almost everyone is up close and personal for attacks say for pascal and only karol can heal. I guess glass cannon would be the term I'd use for this team cause there is power and some great hp but little to no heals or supports
1. Repede. (Vesperia) Aside from overall party aesthetic, he just seemed super weak. 2. Regal. (Symphonia) Again, seemed super weak and his heals weren't at least even comparable to Kratos/Zelos' heals. Plus he's such a late addition that I was already accustomed to a team that just worked. 3. Anise. (The Abyss) I actually have fun with her melee and spell combos, but compared to the other five characters you have available she just felt kinda useless. 4. Chat. (Eternia) Same exact reasons as Anise to where you have five other super useful characters (albeit Max is hardly comparable to the regular cast of four). She's super useful against Volt if you get her poison hammer and eternal hammer, but her niche's are far and few in between. And like Regal, she's such a late addition that you're already accustomed to your party of four.
Xillia - Elise Berseria - Magilou Graces - Sophie Zestiria - Zaveid/Dezel Sophie tanking everything Zaveid and Magilou will do the damage and Elise keep everyone alive This party is very fined
Jonathan BarSela lol she was like THE ONLY character I personally played as the entire game(while in her Mint cosplay),I have a soft spot for loli healers. Also yeah she is pretty damn broken.
I'm currently new to Tales of series and playing Berseria You can blame me this but my main characters in team are 1.Magilou (I play her by myself) 2.Laphicet (This little guy can dodge every attacks from enemies even bosses and dire monster) 3.Eizen (He's cool and he can use Resurrect) 4.Eleanor (same as Eizen) Velvet and Rokurou, I use them from time to time not very frequently because I'm a mage-player
Sooo, I got Ricardo (Innocence), Alvin (Xillia), Anise (Abyss), and Dezel/Zavied (Zestiria). These were all chosen because I just enjoyed other characters more. But, this team is pretty good. I have access to healing and a healthy amount of elements. Plus, Negative Gate from Anise drags the enemy in to get destroyed by three other units. Not half bad
Idk how to pick just 4 games to go from, but I'll try. - Zelos (Symphonia, for the same reason) - Anise (Abyss) - Sophie (Graces F) - Milla (Xillia) Zelos would have to be my makeshift healer, Sophie can dish out single target heals though so that's good. And most of them can dish out some magic damage, and all can dish out some physical attacks. Anise would just have to spam the AoE staggering types of spells I guess. Not a great team, but could be worse lol.
1/Sheina in Symphonia 1 , by far , same for 2 . 2/Karol in Vesperia , did about 7 playtrought , he sucks hard . 3/Leia in Xillia ... She is simply the weakest link , same for 2 . 4/Anise in Abyss , she is pretty good once you know her tricks tought , note that i played more with ashe than with tear/jade/Natalia by using the good old remove disk glitch . Karol is the tank , he also can heal and remove debuff , Leia is the healer that can buff , Anise can spam spells and Sheena is doing sheena things ( going melee and die ) .
For most of my gameplays, I always keep a healer, a mage, a main dps (me), and a swappable unit. I do tend to keep at least 2 maon dps that I use. For example: Yuri and Judith from Vesperia or Jude and Milla (for obvious reasons lol). Many of my least played character would extra dps or be characters that are kinda balanced out and not too strong in one area like Repede or Zelos.
Tales of the Abyss: Anise - She was too slow for me and only really found use as a spellcaster in certain fights. Tales of Vesperia: Karol - His slow movement was really tough for him to get out of dodge situations. Tales of Zestiria: Lailah - She's a glass cannon, and with Zestiria's AI she dies way too much Tales of Rebirth: Eugene - This one was tough because I used all of them regularly and Eugene's fault was his low magic defense for me. Which makes him fighting magic bosses an absolute nightmare for him.
I generally try to round out all my characters in case I get in a situation where they 'have' to be able to fight. But, least used are Cheria Barnes, Alisha, Elize Lutus, Karol Capel.
so far my team of reject is Berseria's Rokurou,Zestiria's lailah I guess (I used everyone really),Tales of the Abyss's Anise,Heart's Innes. All because I just used someone else, except Lailah, that's cause of her puns and "Bird is the word" I kept hearing in battle.
Mine is Natalia, Leia, Alvin, and Anise. When I played Abyss and Xillia I had a bad habit of NEVER using 2 of the 6 characters AT ALL, and just kept an exclusive party. I never brought Anise, Natalia, Leia, or Alvin in my party during the late game.
It'd probably be Genis, Anise, Hubert, and probably... Gaius? Honestly, besides Tales of Symphonia and Abyss, I tend to rotate my party members pretty frequently. My only two constants are: I play as the Main character all the time.(mostly because their combos always feel the best) And there is ALWAYS a Healer.
I used to only play the main characters, but lately on going back I like to vary it up, generally I dislike controlling the slow moving characters (so usually whichever loli or shota has a giant axe or something like that) but every other character is fair game these days for regular switching, especially judith in vesperia, Air Combos with here are WAY more satisfying to pull off once you have what you need and understand how to do them, than yuri's ground combos, maybe not better, but definitely more satisfying (although in Vesperia I think it's really hard to beat the satisfaction of spamming "blah blah blah Tidal Wave" over and over)
Gaius was a great character to me personally. I really enjoyed his role in X1, so I immediately jumped at the chance to control him. His range is deadly as hell, and he had some solid team attacks too
On top of my head? Luke, Presea, Patty Fleur and I tried a long time trying to come with a fourth one, but I couldn't. Honestly, I can't think really think if anyone I don't use.
Let's see ... I feel like I ended up using Symphonia's party equally in the end, I ground my face in NG+ to see all the party members' affection scenes and what have you. For a full party of rejects: Anise (nothing against her, I even went out of my way to get her the Resurrection Tokunaga) Moses (Love the guy but it was easier for me to have Chloe or Jay as my co melee and have magic users in the back) Karol (Difficult to look after if I wasn't playing as him) Cheria (Funnily enough I like her knife artes and spells but I can't stand her character) Leia (same boat as Cheria) The Wind Guy (I did try to use him, but more often than not only brought him for Wind Armatus) Rokurou (Nothing to do with his character or fighting style, I just preferred ... pretty much everyone else in a fight) Chester (Been a while but I think I benched him for Suzu) In order of consideration, both groups are pretty good.
My issue with Hisue is that his attacks, even when you control him, feel like they're made of paper. They don't have any oomph behind them at all, you can pelt an enemy with his arrows and they just don't flinch. Which is weird because most of the other archers/gunmen in Tales have had weight behind their attacks, but he doesn't. He's a good enough healer and he made it easy to get the 200 hits trophy. I didn't really want to use him for anything else after trying him out for an entire dungeon.
Very interesting! Zelos I didn't use either for the same reason, although I also hate his character! Presea and Sheena are two of my favorites! My party through each of my playthroughs had at least one of them. I can't speak for the other three though since I haven't played any of them since I don't own a PS3 or PS4, and my PC is not good enough to manage Zesteria and Berseria. I really want to play Berseria for many reasons!
This is a great question! It's always a double edged sword when you get more party members. It's awesome, but you just can't pick between them or use them all. "What's your B team?" would be a fun thing for any jrpg, or maybe try ng+ with them!
Fun video idea! I'm a bit nuts about rotating, so I don't think I could determine my least used characters, really... but it's fun to see others' thoughts on the characters!
I think I'm one of the few people who actually uses all of their tales characters equally, constantly switching them up as it suits my mood. I've always just liked jumping from style to style regardless if said style was optimal or not. I just get most of my fun out of it that way.
My list would be something like Raven, Richard, Asch, Rokuro, etc. I just had not many reasons to use them so they get a reserve slot, and Richard needs a doll to use him which I have so there are few parts that included Richard. Though yknow maybe someday I should use them more if boredom gets ahold of me.
Ok, here's my list: Tales of Symphonia: Regal Tales of Phantasia: Chester Tales of Legendia: Moses Tales of Rebirth: I can't put any character in here cuz I love all those characters Tales of Destiny: Garr Tales of Destiny 2: Nanaly Tales of the Abyss: Anise, (but just in the battles cuz I think is a good character) Tales of Eternia: Keele Tales of Vesperia: Carol Tales of Xillia 1 & 2: Leia, (same as Anise) Tales of Zestiria: Zaveid Tales of Berseria: Rokurou
Hmm... My team of 4 would probably be: Chester (Phantasia) I got him so late in the story that he was way underleveled and I just didn't bother using him. Although I love that he used a bow and I hoped he'd stick with me for the entire of the story, I just didn't care when he finally returned. Ines (Hearts) Holy shit, I didn't care for her at all. When she betrays you for like 3 minutes, I genuinely hoped that she would leave permanently. I ended the game only having battled with her a collective of 2 times. Kunzite was pretty close, too but I used him a lot during my 2nd playthrough and really liked him. Side note: I admit Hisui didn't have the best personality all the time, but he was the strongest character in the game. His combos could easily rack up 300+ hits! Ricardo (Innocence) Urgh... I know he's supposed to be "cool" and "mysterious" but it just made me not care for him. Kongwai was kinda the same way, but just with a cooler design and more personality. The only thing I kinda liked was his interactions with QQ. Dezel / Zaveid (Zestiria) This has nothing to do with their characters. I really liked Zaveid and Dezel was pretty neat too. However, their armatizations fucking sucked. I felt like I did no damage with the combos and the only spells it had were A) A weaker version of the fire armatizations & B) An useles spell that you could only use in the enemy's face, which dealt minimal damage and made you swap places with the enemy - this leading to your allies missing their attacks.
I have only played a few tales game but I love them regal or however you spell it ( years since I played symphonia) was my least used character I found zelos a nice compliment to Raine healing for her long cast time or animation restrictions.
Out of the ones I've played: Abyss: Anise Hearts R: Hisui Xillia 1: Elize: (Usually had her in my party but hardly ever controlled her) Xillia 2: Muzet Berseria: Magilou
1. Natalia (she just wasn't as good as Tear, even with her buffs and debuffs, she had less usage percentage than Asch) 2. Malik (I played graces f with 2 other friends and no one wanted to be a mage so Cheria took up that last slot all the time) 3. Alvin (also played with the other 2, he left the party so much my friend picked up Elize & Teepo and rocked, this trend continued to Xillia 2) 4. Sheena (I played Regal more than I played Sheena, couldn't get into her playstyle) Overall my team is kind of frail, only Alvin being the tank. But it's well rounded with a healer, mage, 2 physical attackers.
So my team I will kinda have to cheat with due to only playing tales of Xilla 1 tales of Xillia 2 Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia dawn of a new world right now. Xillia 1: Alvin, I never really liked how he played and I could never get behind him after the first couple of mishaps, I learned later he is not such a bad guy but eh. Xillia 2: Gaius honestly it was because I had so much fun messing around with team combos that he became the technical least played one by about half a minute. So yeah, not for lake of trying. Symphonia: Presea Rain was my healer, Zelos was my mixed damage, Lyode was physical damage and then I rotated the forth slot, sadly while I loved her story I could never get into her play style. Dawn: Lyode he just came in a bit late for me to want to use him Looking at the team, I guess it could performer okay, I would need a lot of gems to keep people alive but the damage output is going to be insane
I usually rotate characters when I play the games but if I had to pick... Colette: Symphonia - Didn't like her playstyle, her role seemed to be better filled by other characters in battle, and I didn't find her to be a terribly interesting character overall. Natalia: Abyss - Never really liked playing as her, Tear felt better healer/ranged attacker and could use offensive magic, and it always felt like she was always judging the other characters of the cast quite a bit. Karol: Vesperia - Literally every other character felt better to play as than Karol did, which is a real shame considering I really like the little guy and his debuffs were quite useful. I guess it goes to show Vesperia had extremely good characters. Pascal: Graces - One of my favorite characters in the game, just not to play as. Rowan: Xillia 1/2 - This was the toughest choice out of all of them because I cycle through the characters religiously in the Xillia games, but honestly I loved Rowan more as a supporting character than a playable one. Magilou: Berseria - Almost as tough as Xillia's choice since I cycled through the characters quite a bit but honestly I suppose Magilou would be the one character I would chose if forced to. My cast of characters here is a little bit on the slow slide but they have diversity and versatility. If we're talking a 4 man cast, then Karol, Colette, Natalia, and Pascal would be my four... I wouldn't be completely screwed but it would definitely be a struggle to keep Natalia safe enough to do her job with the likes of Pascal, Karol, and Colette.
My team of least used would be: Raine(Symphonia):Only healing/support magic that was a no for me Natalia(Abyss): Last party member and was really underwhelming. Her artes were also pretty uninteresting. Estelle(Vesperia): Playing as everyone else just felt more satisfying. Especially when I healed everyone with Karol anyways. Lailah(Zesteria): Nothing against her. It's just that I liked the other characters more. Both in gameplay and personality Overall, I was never much of a healer. But my team looks solid
From the Tales of i have played: Tales of Destiny - Karyl Sheeden Tales of Eternia - Max Tales of Symphonia - Regal Tales of Abyss - Jade (i dont like him) Tales of Vesperia - Karol (too slow) Tales of Hearts - Kunzite Tales of Zestiria - Dezel Tales of Berseria - Rokurou (weird gameplay)
leia is actually pretty strong on one i only playedthrough it a few time but her all-item skill(don't know what it's called ) is pretty strong and you can have a high combo count with hisui... myn least used character are the ff: eternia-chat legendia-i i used all of the cast here abyss-natalia and anyss graces f-never mained malik xillia-alvin because he is slow beseria-laphicet
Tales of Symphonia: Presea Tales of Xillia: Muzet Tales of Graces: Cheria Tales of Berseria: Laphicet Basically, I had no idea how to play as these characters, And stuck with them as my team... I'd STILL have no clue how to use them
Graces: Malik was way too clunky to use properly and i already had a decent set up with the rest of my party with Cheria, Sophie, Pascal, and Asbel. Xillia: Rowen's usefulness was limited as I only needed him for bosses weak to light magic but other than that Milla had it covered Xillia 2: Muzet... I couldnt really tell what she was trying to be and what her role in the party was. She was like sort of a healer but sort of not? And I already had characters that did a better job at healing anyways. Berseria: Eizen was one of the characters I never used ever in a tales game. I normally at least use everyone once but his play style just didnt seem appealing.
I have played several Tales games, but I'm going to choose from the ones I've played the most. Tear -- Abyss: Unless I absolutely had to have her. I preferred Natalia's bow over Tear's weapons and Natalia is also a healer. Regal -- Symphonia: I just couldn't get the hang of his fighting style. And I am one who switches characters out a lot. Judith -- Vesperia: I am not a fan of spear users, and while I like the character, I just couldn't do her justice in battle. I couldn't time her jumps and hits to save my party's life too many times. Zestiria -- The Wind Twins. Sorry Dezel and Windy Zelos, but as much as I like your characters, your armitization was pretty weak at times -- as were your basic attacks. Had a blast with everyone else's though.
My list Shela (Tales of symphonia) Jade (Tales of the Abyss) Repede (Tales of vesperia) Lilaha (Tales of zestiria) Eleanor (Tales of Berseria) Ines (Tales of Hearts R) Before you ask I haven't played Xillia
I always use zelos, spell canceling is just too good. It makes randomizer genis really fun too :P. I always liked zelos's basic attacks better than kratos just because they feel smoother to me. But when I play Symphonia zelos/kratos is always in my party, mainly because they're so useful for the mania, half exp runs me and my friends do. My party would be (one from each title) Sheena(Symphonia) Repede (Vesperia) Anise (Abyss) Leia (Xillia)
Pascal from Graces Patty from Vesperia Ricardo from Innocence Colette from Symphonia Or any sort of mages actually. I usually dislike heal mages since its not my style but I still try them all out. I chose these 4 characters because I remember they didnt fit my style at all, even though 3/4 arent mages lol. They can still use spells but I dont consider them a mage that heavily depends on spells. Its most likely because mages in the early game, does not really have any damage spells and you'll gradually forget to use them throughout your playthrough. Out of the 4, ill probs use Pascal. Because Graces's battle system is op and I didnt mind Pascal as much compared to other Tales game.
Symphonia - Regal (too awkward to memorize his linking system, also falls victim to last recruit syndrome as is common) Legendia - Will (falls out to the more specialized casters and I am in the minority of people who use Shirley before him once she's available, great voice though) Vesperia - Judith (controls awkwardly before getting her specialized skills and after I just don't care to use her in place of other melee characters) Xillia 2 - Muzet (I just prefer the other characters more, no particular problem with her) This team is very decent, I'll say. It has no particular weaknesses since there are two melee and two caster combatants with healing on three of the four and one has a resurrect. Very offensive oriented, too.
I hated using Carol in Vesperia. And old man in Xillia kept joking nobody wants him since he's so old. He was right. Leia was a welcome addition to my party. Waifu take priority. Zaveid and Dezel were just not for me.
OtakuDaiKun I feel you "Karol" took some time for me to understand, but when I seen his worth, (on my 4th playthrough on unknown) I realized he was the "red mage" of the crew. Those debuffs omg. Karol all the way
Can you do this for characters you wished join the party? Idk if it's just me, but I love magic knights in tales games they usually end up being my favorites gameplay and personality wise, but they usually turn traitor or don't join your party at all as you know. That or a team of favorite characters
My least used are: Natalia (I'm just meh about her she's just my least favorite one) Leia (same reason as Natalia, but I like her less. You've think the last party member would be someone cooler or a better fighter), Regal (I have no problem with any of the characters, I just like and or use the others more) Pascal (Again, I have no problem with the characters in fact this is one of if not my favorite cast but there's not enough space, I love using everyone except for her and Malik, Hubert and Richard being my favorites, and Malik is more useful plus he has eleth burst and that makes me bias towards him) Edit: I forgot to mention, that hat also annoys the hell out of me, Idk why Zaveid had to wear it but the ruins its for me. I still use him though because I like the wind armatus' design and artes.
My least played characters (taking in consideration that I only ever played the 3 games that are currently on Steam Vesperia can't come fast enough) are Regal, Dezel/Zaveid, Eizen and... either Alisha or Rokurou. How this team would perform... well, it has 2 healers/casters and 2 melee attackers no matter which of the last 2 characters I pick, so it's passable. Not sure which one I would play as... probably one of the melee ones, since I don't like playing as Dezel, Zavied or Eizen at all
Xillia/2: Jude. I find him really hard to combo with. If he was on the team, it was for healing, either by way of artes or his tag action. Graces: Cheria. Once again, I couldn't figure out how to play her. Her spells aren't interesting or useful, either. She'll be the main spellcaster of this team. Abyss: Guy. Luke was more fun as a swordsman, I guess. If I needed someone to do fast damage, Luke was always ahead of Guy in output, and he was more familiar in playstyle to me. Out of all the characters here, I'll probably never intentionally control Guy. Backup damage slot, since anyone with actual utility would be too well-used to be on this list. Vesperia: Judith. Although I love her combat style, she just doesn't get any of the critical skills and artes necessary for her to function until the very end of the game. Thus, she spends the least amount of time in my active party if not being used to spam moves like Moonbeam and Luna Fang. I'll end up controlling her the most out of these four.
Karol: If you want more damage, just pick other character. Nothing against him as a character but even our little princess had more use than him. Want to team heal but better DPS and range? Just pick Raven. Actually, compare to the entire cast, he's even slower than Rita, Raven and Estelle. The entire cast had better DPS than Karol. Luke: Once you get Guy, you don't need Luke anymore unless you wanted to 100% his skill or mandatory fight. Guy is just better than Luke in EVERYWAY. Leia: I don't really see the use of Leia when you had Jude, Elize, and Muzet on the battlefield. Collete: You know when you already had Raine, WTF are you using Collete for? Maybe you are a fan of her character, I guess but naw.
I found Karol more of the jack that was not looked or care for most of the time by others. When you make a character to be so much of everything. They become obsolete. Although Carol can take a good beating and become immune to stun under right set up. He's the tank knight. 😅 Like someone from Resident Evil 4 can be. To bad Carol can't be that good that one way.😅
I feel like a lot of first timers at least use colette because when you don't, and get to any early game boss fight, chances are you get hit with "Please rearrange your party to include colette" I feel like with her and luke if youre going to *have* to use them anyway you might as well try doing something with them but this is your party and not mine and its fine to have a differing opinion
this 1 is hard for me because i kinda try to use everyone... or try to find a use for every character. anise from abyss: i would put her in when needed but never really liked her character hee melee always felt wonkey to me and her magic was rately useful enough to put her in over the other casters. chat from eternia: just never found a reason to use her over anyone else. i actually have an extremely hard time looking for any more than that.
My least used/least favorite characters to use combatwise and characterwise? Asbel (Graces f) Anise (Abyss) Estelle (Vesperia) Regal (Symphonia) Not a bad party, but I wouldn't stand playing it for long.
Let's see: Symphonia: Colette (loved her, but honestly she just wasn't that useful for me except in select situations) Abyss: Luke (I mained Jade, other magic users were always useful and AI Guy was just better) Xillia: Alvin (Leia had good link usage unlike Alvin who just got stuck on the bench most of the time) Vesperia: Karol (sorry Captain) Zestiria: The wind one, yeah.... has no idea what they want to do in combat and range is awkward Graces: Pascal, again her range was too clunky and awkward for me to get used to. Berseria: Eizen, oddly enough. I played with a fried, I went Magilou/Laphicet and he was Eleanor, AI Rokouro and Velvet are bosses, but AI Eizen kept wasting time casting FORGET THE PAIN AND MOVE! Not including Symphonia and Xillia 2, because it's largely the same character pool.
My party: 1. Presea from Symphonia: She's a decent enough fighter and character, but seeing as I always use Lloyd, she's just a little obsolete in that there's nothing major she can do that he can't do instead. 2. Repede from Vesperia: He's useful enough in combat, but lacks personality compared to the others (which makes sense considering he's a dog), so I barely ever use him. 3. Malik from Graces f: I absolutely adore him as a character, but he just never seemed that useful in battle, so he was always placed on the bench. 4: Rowen from Xillia: Like with Malik, I adore him as a character, but he's never seemed that good whenever I've tried using him, so he's sadly always sidelined for everyone else. Also; you don't use Zaveid? He was pretty much the only well-written character in Zestiria, so I felt I had to use him even if he wasn't all that good. (Even if that hat is kinda stupid looking admittedly)
Haha, hello again! Presea is definitely a cool character, I might even try to play as her in my next run through the game, it's just a shame that she's a bit of a filler character, seeing as she really doesn't do all that much compared to most of the other party members.
repede is the only character that can steal, use items without using them, is lower then 90% of the enemy hitbox areas so he doesnt get hit very often. repede is one of the best characters to use. karol on the other hand had to be the worst, i couldnt hit with him, his power attacks often missed.
Max from Tales of Eternia: came in too late the game to catch up with the party that already had such good synergy. I even used Chat just a bit more. Plus, controlling him was awkward. Moses from Tales of Legendia: Fine character, but I barely had use for a guy throwing spears. The spell-casters were better at range, and trying to control him in battle was awkward. Repede from Tales of Vesperia: terrible berserker. Didn't do much damage, died too easily, and was awkward to control. And Laila from Tales of Zestiria: typically only brought her out for the fire armatis. I had more fun using Dezel and Edna, Mikleo was better support, and I thought controlling her was awkward. Hmmm...I guess I don't use characters that handle awkwardly for my playing style.
edmg7 So since you can't adjust you kinda screwed yourself a bit. In that you ditched out your thieves. As result get hard to get certin items you only can get by stealing. 😐
Never been much of an item collector so it didn't matter to me. But I completed the 360 version of Vesperia to 100% and used Repede minimally. So I guess I didn't really need his thievery all that much.
Let's see... Anise - Tales of the abyss. I never use her, but she has good spells and she can be melee if need be. Repede - tales of vesperia. Melee character, but almost everyone in vesperia is melee. Tales of Graces- Pascal. I dont even know what she is, that's how much I didnt use her. Tales of Berseria - Eleanor. I dont recall her abilities, I just know she uses a spear. I think my biggest weakness in this lineup would be the lack of a healer, because I have plenty of melee fighters and at least one spell caster in Anise but I probably dont got a healer. Unless Eleanor is a healer, I dunno.
This is kind of an interesting topic, my problem with the games I've finished multiple times(vesperia, abyss and symphonia) is that I've given all the characters a somewhat fair shake over the years. That said: Carol(vesperia)-he's so slow. Natalia(abyss)-weaker healer than tear, and I just love jade and anise too much. Sheena(symphonia)- she only edges out Colette because the angle theme is cooler, and item rover. I don't dislike Sheena, I just used her the least. Dat swimsuit tho. Edna(zestiria)-literally a case of characters I enjoyed more being in the party. I would have swapped sorey out for her had the mechanics allowed for it. I love mikleo, and I just enjoyed the shit out of zaveid. I'd say this is a fairly balanced party, if a bit clunky/slow. That's sort of my problem with Carol. He's just.so.damn.clunky. but when we get vesperia remastered I'll make an effort to main him this time until true husbando Flynn shows up.
Speaking of Regal, he is a lot more useful in the port versions of Symphonia, that freaking Wyrm Wrath with Lloyd man, that Unison Arte felt like a Mystic Arte.
I couldn't use Raven in Vesperia, because his physical attacks just seemed slow. Once I looked up his prize from the 200 man melee at the Coliseum, he suddenly became useful. At the end of the grind, his fell arms was one shotting most of the enemies. I had to get rid of the spammer mages near the end because of the Traitor of Heaven is fast and staggering. I had to spam burst Artes just to stop the lunker... You hated Hisui? He was very good at healing, and staying far from the enemy, shooting from afar. in Tales of Hearts R. I found his over protection of Kohaku, very comical. I mean, they were being stalked by a witch, and far away from their hometown. Tales of Arise coming out tomorrow!
really??? :O Hisui was my healer in tales of heart R! my final team in heart R was; Kor Kohaku (I think that was her name?) Hisui and Chaolody (or however you say his name)
Symphonia - Tie between Regal and Colette, though I can actually play Colette so I guess it goes to Regal. I LIKE Regal as a character while I barely care at all about Colette, but I could never get a good feel for how he played. I already had Presea at the point anyways, so playing almost anyone else became a moot point for me. Graces - Asbel. No joke. Partially skewed input, though, since I played through Graces with two people who couldn't stand the poor guy. I played through the game again on my own, though, and I still played him the least out of the characters. He isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination- he's fantastic in a fight. I just liked having Sophie and Pascal on my frontlines instead. Vesperia - Karol There's no getting around this one. I could probably pick other Tales games I've played just so I could avoid making that choice, but there's no getting out of it. Karol is probably my least played Tales character period. And I LIKE his character arc! I just. Can't. STAND playing as him. Berseria - Rokurou Rokurou is a super cool dude like 99% of the time, but I just didn't like his play-style. I preferred the pure aggression of Velvet or the range capabilities combined with melee of the others as opposed to his more "perfect punish" style. It's not his fault. He's still dope. In total - I'm screwed. I can't play with this, outside of maining Asbel like my life depends on it. Where is my (actually good) healer? Where is my mage? How do I play half of these characters? The funny part is I think the team's actually pretty decent since various characters can actually keep the team maintained through basic means and the rush-down game would be phenomenal, but... I don't think I'd be able to make it work.
Symphonia - Regal hands down. I swear the first few times I played it I never used him once. I didnt really like him, and I felt like he really had no reason to even be there. I liked Zelos and Kratos quite a bit, and it was usually them or Colette as my 4th. Presea and Raine basically never left the main party. I feel bad, but Sheena and Genis also were usually relegated to the bench, even though I liked them. Abyss - Im sure Anise had more potential, but I didnt use her much. Not sure why, bc I dont take issue with her. Phantasia - Chester. Keep the bench warm, archer boy. Vesperia, Berseria, Zestiria - I think I used everyone pretty equally. But I wasn’t exactly sad to lose Dezel. Like... at all. Zaveid was way hotter and sounded like Patrick Warburton. But that damn hat... Legendia - I try to erase any memory of this disaster of a game from my mind.
My team would be Symphonia: regal or presa Xillia: I use everyone but I think that honor of least used is milla Graces: hurbert Abyss: guy. Looking at my team . I thinks its fines
Thanks to OmegaKingAuldron of the Tales subreddit for making the post that inspired this fun little video 😘
*If your party was made up of only your least used characters from Tales, who would be in it and how would it perform?*
Jay RPG sorry I’ve only played 2 games so far and I haven’t finished either one of which I don’t own anymore and the other I just forget to start play again, the one I don’t own anymore is Xillia 2 and the one I have is Besaria and from that one my least used one is, Laphicet.
Jay RPG I gotta say this . I prefer zelos over kratos mainly cause kratos bores me
Well I've only played both Symphonia games, Vesperia, and the Abyss.
I doubt they would perform particularly well together, but having really not used them much at all I'm not too sure...
let's see...least used character in each of the Tales games I've played:
Legendia would be Jay for sure.
In all Tales games I've played I always swapping characters in and out, no one sitting on the bench for too long so I don't have rejected party but when it come to the characters I preferred to control them myself, most of them are the girls who can fight at close range . lol
The Buffoon yea same here
It surprises me that people actually completely ignore some characters
I can't imagine beating Symphonia without Raine or Genis
Right I relied on Rain way too much.
They all have some niche, and all get skills that make them all equally viable- (Tear was easily replaced by Nad, but was brought back into the party when she stated getting those good tunes)
All in all, loved the cast and the game- and feel it deserves most of the praise it gets, but maybe not all of the criticisms.
Man I don't care what anyone says, I will ALWAYS play each character in a Tales game and love their characters.
You can play all of them and still have a least played 😂
Jay RPG Not with me once a new character appears I make sure all are equally played. XD Even if they're hard to control I try and at least keep playing them. ✨
Finally, there's someone out there that doesn't hate a character for being "annoying" or " too nice".
Seriously, I can't stand that mentality, especially hating someone for being "too nice".
@@supersonicmario56 Yup, in this game, you gotta *play 'em all*
For the 4 tales games I've played:
Guy- fine character in story, but he was too close to Luke in gameplay and didn't really have a good enough moveset to give him a slot in my party
Magilou- I didn't really like her personality, and in gameplay, she was trumped by Laphicet in every way. plus, Beseria is always that game where I don't normally go with a three-caster build.
Norma- wow I really have a hatred for the boisterous caster, huh. yeah Norma did not spend much time with my party, especially with how janky the magic system was in Legendia
Presea- I messed around with her for a bit, but she mostly chilled on the bench.
Leia is probably my favorite from all games! I just don't use the long staff buff much because I hate that it starts from dodging an attack lol.
Dang I love Leia so much I'm surprised she is kinda the least loved on Xillia because I loved everything about her and she had crazy artes and air combat. I have to say I tend to not play main characters or men the most. I usually make a party of all the girls if I can and it is usually awesome and works well!
I won't be able to fully commit to this because I'm only played and beaten three tales games in life so far which are:
Tales of the Abyss
Tales of Phantasia
Tales of Xillia
In all honesty, I think its just my gamestyle but I try to use all the characters evenly regardless if they're good or not.
TheCompletionist Also Anise's doll makes her a larger target.
Yeah leia is so awesome!
I chose my 4 favorite Tales games, I noticed they are all my least favorite characters from their respective games lmao:
(Honorable mention)
Tear- In the end she became my favorite personality- however I really didn’t particularly enjoy playing as her.
Defending Myself:
Anise- Good GOD I love her!
Thank you for preaching the Anise love. It's good to find another Anise main in the sea of brat-hate.
I love natalie a lot to i kinda mained her right when i got her and i liked her personality and look in the opening video. Also I think Anise is very original in everywat so I liked her a lot.
As often as I do swap characters in and out, I do have what I dub 'reserve team B' members. They currently consist of five characters:
Presea and Regal (Symphonia)
Anise (Abyss)
Leia (Xillia)
Rowen (Xillia 2)
How screwed am I? Pretty screwed.
This is hard as I often rotate characters to keep their levels even and because I love learning how to use everyone...
I haven't played all of them, but so far
1) Regal (Symphonia) - He joined so late into the game I was already in my comfort zone.
MrSonicHedgehog but Rita was soooo OP! She was my "oh crap I'm gonna lose this battle...wait no I'm not" character.
This is a very interesting question and I would love to ask this of two of my friends and see how they would react. Great job with the video!
My Tales would consist of
Regal (Symphonia): He joined late in the game and by that time I had my set team.
Ok so for each game I’ve played these are the characters I don’t use *often*, not that I avoid them but just don’t use a lot:
Suzu
Sheena
Lailah
Rokurou and I’ve used everyone equally in Vesperia
I only just finished playing my first tales game. Vesperia, which I bought on a whim during a jrpg kick. But here goes. Karol, Raven, repede, and Judith.
Regal (ToS) - By the time I got him, my team was really well rounded and fitted my playstyle, trying to force Regal into my comp would make it feel janky.
Rowen (ToX) - in terms of magic, why would I ever replace my adorable little Elize, and in terms of melee, literally all the other characters.
Gall (ToHr) - easily my least favorite in the Tales series, didnt use him much
Dezel/Zaveid (ToZ) - I love the characters and their designs, but hated how they came so late in the game and switched off, felt really off putting to use them
i used leia alot to farm items and she was fast. pretty good healer too
Exactly. It's not so fun to main her but she's a great support character, especially in Xillia 2 where Elize is nerfed.
Leia is more fun to play as in X2 imo. She's pretty great at healing & has some awesome physical artes too
She was my white thief. Always had her. Have in someone who can heal in a few ways, steal & not have to be up front & get killed fast is great for me.
Vesperia-Carol
Rebirth-Mao
Innocence-Ricardo
Graces-Pascal
Abyss-Anise
Hearts-Brother Complex dude
Destiny- Red Haired girl
Tempest-Everyone
I usually add characters with the most relevance to the plot at the time. For the newer tales games along with the first statement, I put the optimal characters on my team. As for the 4 characters I use the least they would be Presea, Mikleo, Natalia and Muzet.
In no particular order:
Legendia: Had Shirley not joined the party, it would have been Moses, but Shirley beats him out in terms of uselessness.
From the Tales games that I remember well enough, I'd definitely have to say:
Regal (Symphonia)- I didn't care for his fight style overall, though he's my brother's favorite character.
Karol from ToV
Rokuro from ToB
Pascal from ToG
Anise from ToA
Conclusion is that almost everyone is up close and personal for attacks say for pascal and only karol can heal.
Phantasia: Suzu
Destiny: Philia
Destiny 2: Nanaly
Eternia: Chat
Symphonia: Regal
Rebirth: Eugene
Abyss: Anise
Legendia: Norma
Innocence: Hermana
Vesperia: Karol
Hearts: Ines
Graces: Malik
Xillia: Rowen
Xillia 2: Rowen again
Zestiria: Mikleo
Berseria: Laphicet
Final Party: Karol, Regel, Philia, Eugene
Xillia - Elise
Berseria - Magilou
Graces - Sophie
Zestiria - Zaveid/Dezel
Sophie tanking everything Zaveid and Magilou will do the damage and Elise keep everyone alive
This party is very fined
How the hell can you play Xillia without the most broken healer in the franchise?
Jonathan BarSela lol she was like THE ONLY character I personally played as the entire game(while in her Mint cosplay),I have a soft spot for loli healers. Also yeah she is pretty damn broken.
Sounds like a pretty broken party, especially with Elise & Sophie lol
I'm currently new to Tales of series and playing Berseria
You can blame me this but my main characters in team are
1.Magilou (I play her by myself)
2.Laphicet (This little guy can dodge every attacks from enemies even bosses and dire monster)
3.Eizen (He's cool and he can use Resurrect)
4.Eleanor (same as Eizen)
Velvet and Rokurou, I use them from time to time not very frequently because I'm a mage-player
Symphonia- Regal
Xillia- Rowen Xillia 2- Muzet
Vesperia- Judith/Karol
Graces- Richard
Zesteria- Dezel
Beseria- Eleanor
Sooo, I got Ricardo (Innocence), Alvin (Xillia), Anise (Abyss), and Dezel/Zavied (Zestiria). These were all chosen because I just enjoyed other characters more. But, this team is pretty good. I have access to healing and a healthy amount of elements. Plus, Negative Gate from Anise drags the enemy in to get destroyed by three other units. Not half bad
Idk how to pick just 4 games to go from, but I'll try.
- Zelos (Symphonia, for the same reason)
- Anise (Abyss)
- Sophie (Graces F)
- Milla (Xillia)
Zelos would have to be my makeshift healer, Sophie can dish out single target heals though so that's good.
My team would probably consist of:
Rowen (Xillia 1/2),
Colette (Symphonia),
Anise (Abyss),
Malik (Graces)
Tales of the Abyss: Anise - She was too slow for me and only really found use as a spellcaster in certain fights.
Tales of Vesperia: Karol - His slow movement was really tough for him to get out of dodge situations.
Tales of Zestiria: Lailah - She's a glass cannon, and with Zestiria's AI she dies way too much
Tales of Rebirth: Eugene - This one was tough because I used all of them regularly and Eugene's fault was his low magic defense for me.
My only two constants are: I play as the Main character all the time.(mostly because their combos always feel the best)
And there is ALWAYS a Healer.
For a full party of rejects:
Anise (nothing against her, I even went out of my way to get her the Resurrection Tokunaga)
Moses (Love the guy but it was easier for me to have Chloe or Jay as my co melee and have magic users in the back)
Karol (Difficult to look after if I wasn't playing as him)
Cheria (Funnily enough I like her knife artes and spells but I can't stand her character)
Leia (same boat as Cheria)
The Wind Guy (I did try to use him, but more often than not only brought him for Wind Armatus)
Rokurou (Nothing to do with his character or fighting style, I just preferred ... pretty much everyone else in a fight)
Chester (Been a while but I think I benched him for Suzu)
In order of consideration, both groups are pretty good.
Ok, here's my list:
Tales of Symphonia: Regal
Tales of Phantasia: Chester
Tales of Legendia: Moses
Tales of Rebirth: I can't put any character in here cuz I love all those characters
Tales of Destiny: Garr
Tales of Destiny 2: Nanaly
Tales of the Abyss: Anise, (but just in the battles cuz I think is a good character)
Tales of Eternia: Keele
Tales of Vesperia: Carol
Tales of Xillia 1 & 2: Leia, (same as Anise)
Tales of Zestiria: Zaveid
Tales of Berseria: Rokurou
Hmm... My team of 4 would probably be:
Chester (Phantasia)
I got him so late in the story that he was way underleveled and I just didn't bother using him. Although I love that he used a bow and I hoped he'd stick with me for the entire of the story, I just didn't care when he finally returned.
Ines (Hearts)
Holy shit, I didn't care for her at all.
Ricardo (Innocence)
Urgh... I know he's supposed to be "cool" and "mysterious" but it just made me not care for him. Kongwai was kinda the same way, but just with a cooler design and more personality. The only thing I kinda liked was his interactions with QQ.
Dezel / Zaveid (Zestiria)
This has nothing to do with their characters.
Out of the ones I've played:
Abyss: Anise
Hearts R: Hisui
Xillia 1: Elize: (Usually had her in my party but hardly ever controlled her)
Xillia 2: Muzet
Berseria: Magilou
1. Natalia (she just wasn't as good as Tear, even with her buffs and debuffs, she had less usage percentage than Asch)
2. Malik (I played graces f with 2 other friends and no one wanted to be a mage so Cheria took up that last slot all the time)
3. Alvin (also played with the other 2, he left the party so much my friend picked up Elize & Teepo and rocked, this trend continued to Xillia 2)
4. Sheena (I played Regal more than I played Sheena, couldn't get into her playstyle)
Overall my team is kind of frail, only Alvin being the tank. But it's well rounded with a healer, mage, 2 physical attackers.
Colette (Symphonia), Rowen and Leia (Xillia1&2), Cheria( Don't know if I spelled right, Graces F)
Dawn: Lyode he just came in a bit late for me to want to use him
Looking at the team, I guess it could performer okay, I would need a lot of gems to keep people alive but the damage output is going to be insane
My team of least used would be:
Raine(Symphonia):Only healing/support magic that was a no for me
Natalia(Abyss): Last party member and was really underwhelming. Her artes were also pretty uninteresting.
Estelle(Vesperia): Playing as everyone else just felt more satisfying. Especially when I healed everyone with Karol anyways.
Lailah(Zesteria): Nothing against her. It's just that I liked the other characters more. Both in gameplay and personality
Overall, I was never much of a healer. But my team looks solid
From the Tales of i have played:
Tales of Destiny - Karyl Sheeden
Tales of Eternia - Max
Tales of Symphonia - Regal
Tales of Abyss - Jade (i dont like him)
Tales of Vesperia - Karol (too slow)
Tales of Hearts - Kunzite
Tales of Zestiria - Dezel
Tales of Berseria - Rokurou (weird gameplay)
Mine would most likely be: Natalia, Mary, Repede, & Hubert. I love these guys, but never find a place for them sadly enough.
leia is actually pretty strong on one i only playedthrough it a few time but her all-item skill(don't know what it's called ) is pretty strong and you can have a high combo count with hisui...
myn least used character are the ff:
eternia-chat
legendia-i i used all of the cast here
abyss-natalia and anyss
graces f-never mained malik
xillia-alvin because he is slow
beseria-laphicet
Tales of Symphonia: Presea
Tales of Xillia: Muzet
Tales of Graces: Cheria
Tales of Berseria: Laphicet
Basically, I had no idea how to play as these characters,
And stuck with them as my team... I'd STILL have no clue how to use them
Graces: Malik was way too clunky to use properly and i already had a decent set up with the rest of my party with Cheria, Sophie, Pascal, and Asbel.
Xillia: Rowen's usefulness was limited as I only needed him for bosses weak to light magic but other than that Milla had it covered
Xillia 2: Muzet...
My list
Shela (Tales of symphonia)
Jade (Tales of the Abyss)
Repede (Tales of vesperia)
Lilaha (Tales of zestiria)
Eleanor (Tales of Berseria)
Ines (Tales of Hearts R)
Before you ask I haven't played Xillia
I always use zelos, spell canceling is just too good. It makes randomizer genis really fun too :P. I always liked zelos's basic attacks better than kratos just because they feel smoother to me. But when I play Symphonia zelos/kratos is always in my party, mainly because they're so useful for the mania, half exp runs me and my friends do.
My party would be (one from each title)
Sheena(Symphonia)
Repede (Vesperia)
Anise (Abyss)
Leia (Xillia)
Pascal from Graces
Patty from Vesperia
Ricardo from Innocence
Colette from Symphonia
Or any sort of mages actually.
Symphonia - Regal (too awkward to memorize his linking system, also falls victim to last recruit syndrome as is common)
Legendia - Will (falls out to the more specialized casters and I am in the minority of people who use Shirley before him once she's available, great voice though)
Vesperia - Judith (controls awkwardly before getting her specialized skills and after I just don't care to use her in place of other melee characters)
Xillia 2 - Muzet (I just prefer the other characters more, no particular problem with her)
This team is very decent, I'll say.
Karol all the way
I really like Karol. He's surprisingly versatile with his artes. I love Charged up Reaper Knock because it wrecks the big enemies.
Exactly. It takes at least two characters to fully replace Leia. For Rowen, all you need is Milla. And Leia is sexy.
"Old man" ..Rowen. He was my fav character in xillia. Such grace and charm.
"Old man" ..Rowen. He was my fav character in xillia. Such grace and charm.
Can you do this for characters you wished join the party? Idk if it's just me, but I love magic knights in tales games they usually end up being my favorites gameplay and personality wise, but they usually turn traitor or don't join your party at all as you know. That or a team of favorite characters
Symphonia Regal
Abyss Natalia
Xillia: Alvin
Berseria Eleanor (only by a small amount the backup system meant I could kind of have all them)
My least used are:
Natalia (I'm just meh about her she's just my least favorite one)
Leia (same reason as Natalia, but I like her less. You've think the last party member would be someone cooler or a better fighter),
Regal (I have no problem with any of the characters, I just like and or use the others more)
Pascal (Again, I have no problem with the characters in fact this is one of if not my favorite cast but there's not enough space, I love using everyone except for her and Malik, Hubert and Richard being my favorites, and Malik is more useful plus he has eleth burst and that makes me bias towards him)
Edit: I forgot to mention, that hat also annoys the hell out of me, Idk why Zaveid had to wear it but the ruins its for me.
I would say Luke is way better than Guy. Hits harder and can take more of a beating with more arte combos.
J'Kai Brantley Yeah quite true when I play both. Luke definely has stronger hits & in my exp. he has higher stun rate.
I found Karol more of the jack that was not looked or care for most of the time by others. When you make a character to be so much of everything. They become obsolete. Although Carol can take a good beating and become immune to stun under right set up. He's the tank knight. 😅 Like someone from Resident Evil 4 can be. To bad Carol can't be that good that one way.😅
I feel like a lot of first timers at least use colette because when you don't, and get to any early game boss fight, chances are you get hit with
"Please rearrange your party to include colette"
I feel like with her and luke if youre going to *have* to use them anyway you might as well try doing something with them
but this is your party and not mine and its fine to have a differing opinion
I beat her solo colosseum before Lloyd's or Presea's, who I mostly mained.
this 1 is hard for me because i kinda try to use everyone... or try to find a use for every character.
anise from abyss: i would put her in when needed but never really liked her character hee melee always felt wonkey to me and her magic was rately useful enough to put her in over the other casters.
chat from eternia: just never found a reason to use her over anyone else.
i actually have an extremely hard time looking for any more than that.
My least used/least favorite characters to use combatwise and characterwise?
Asbel (Graces f)
Anise (Abyss)
Estelle (Vesperia)
Regal (Symphonia)
Not a bad party, but I wouldn't stand playing it for long.
Let's see:
Symphonia: Colette (loved her, but honestly she just wasn't that useful for me except in select situations)
Abyss: Luke (I mained Jade, other magic users were always useful and AI Guy was just better)
Xillia: Alvin (Leia had good link usage unlike Alvin who just got stuck on the bench most of the time)
Vesperia: Karol (sorry Captain)
Zestiria: The wind one, yeah.... has no idea what they want to do in combat and range is awkward
Graces: Pascal, again her range was too clunky and awkward for me to get used to.
Least used characters are
Anise - Abyss
Colette & Regal - Symphonia
Leia, Gaius, Muzét - Xillia 1&2
My party:
I can't agree on Malik, however, i give you a like for the Zaveid comment :D
Surprised you didn't say Gwen.😅
repede is the only character that can steal, use items without using them, is lower then 90% of the enemy hitbox areas so he doesnt get hit very often. repede is one of the best characters to use. karol on the other hand had to be the worst, i couldnt hit with him, his power attacks often missed.
Regal-Tales of symphonia
Anise- Tales of Abyss
Elanor-Tales of Berseria
Repeede-Tales of Vespiria
1. Rowen (Xillia)
2. Malik (Graces)
3. Gaius (Xillia 2)
4. Rokuro (Berseria)
I had quite a few misspellings.
That said:
Carol(vesperia)-he's so slow.
Presea- Symphonia
Karol- Vesperia
Dezel- Zestria
Magilou- Berseria
Tales of Arise coming out tomorrow!
really??? :O Hisui was my healer in tales of heart R!
my final team in heart R was;
Kor
Kohaku (I think that was her name?)
Hisui
and Chaolody (or however you say his name)
Vesperia - Karol
There's no getting around this one. I could probably pick other Tales games I've played just so I could avoid making that choice, but there's no getting out of it. Karol is probably my least played Tales character period. And I LIKE his character arc! I just. Can't. STAND playing as him.
Berseria - Rokurou
Rokurou is a super cool dude like 99% of the time, but I just didn't like his play-style.
My team would be
Symphonia: regal or presa
Xillia: I use everyone but I think that honor of least used is milla
Graces: hurbert
Abyss: guy.
Looking at my team . I thinks its fines
Symphonia : Zelos
Xillia : Rowen
Xillia 2 : Leia
Zestiria : Edna
Berseria : Magillou
