- At the turn of the 20th Century, a wave of Italian immigrants began moving to what is now known as “The Little Italy of the Bronx.” Arthur Avenue is the main thoroughfare, followed by East 187th Street. Most of the Italian restaurants and specialty shops are located within the triangle formed by Arthur Avenue, East 187th Street, and Crescent Ave. Everything is within walking distance. In fact, most of the restaurants buy from the local specialty shops. The majority of businesses in the area are considered local institutions. Although a couple new restaurants have opened along Arthur Avenue in the 21st century, most have been in the same families for generations.

Wonderful tour of the Bronx Little Italy and informative, too. Ah, the days when there would have been a social club on every block. I'm sure there is still a "presence" but not like the days when Chazz was growing up. If nothing else the neighborhoods were safer for their presence. Thanks Brian :o)
And thanks for watching
I come from the neighborhood there was quite a few social clubs and a lot of monsters. basically Guys from the five families safe Neighborhood and they all looked out for you .I would remember everyone’s doors unlocked in the building wide open and no one was home at work or shopping.no one came into your building that didn’t live there
@@sallybottz187th9 Yes, women weren't being raped in stairwells, no kidnappings, muggings, carjacks, home invasions, shoot outs on the street etc and in return people kept their mouths shut. I'm sure this kind of security was well worth it.
@@tonithenightowl1836 Absolutely all the guys looked out for us actually one big guy I don’t wanna mention his name he just passed away he got me off the streets gave me my first job in the pastry shop.I have not to say bad about them the neighborhood was beautiful back then now you got to be careful because they’re not around anymore
@@sallybottz187th9 Yes, now they live in the suburbs. I guess it was bound to happen. Now street gangs have taken over and they have no rules.
Good Job man!
Thanks 🙏
Great video, but was hoping to see Chaz’s “stoop”. I looked on Mapquest but it’s blocked by a van, lol 🤦🏻♂️
Which address did you use?
By the way Mario’s is the best pizza a lot of people don’t know that they serve pizza today it’s a must to try.
Thanks. Especially because I've never eaten there. Next time..........
Calabria is NOT a part of Sicily!
Yes, YOU ARE correct. Thanks for pointing that out.
Heading to Arthur Avenue Next week. coming from GW Bridge on Jersey Side. What is the Easiest, safest, route to get to Hoffman parking Lot and Arthur Ave?
I suggest using Waze. The best route could change every hour.
@@markgjidoda2745 thanks! Hoping to visit before new year's
Sad, Italian neighborhood's have become a novelty. The fall was self inflicted. Italian people got greedy and started hiring as cheap of help they could get, the quest to make more with less overhead caused illegals to take advantage of this. Walk into almost any Italian restaurant now and you have Mexicans making your food, walk into any Italian neighborhood and you have Mexicans renting in mass numbers. Italians sold out for the almighty dollar. And Calabria is not in Sicily.
Yes Calabria is north central
Are there any people in Bronx Little Italy that can speak Italian or no one in Bronx Little Italy speaks Italian anymore?
I'm sure some of the store owners and staff do.
Ya there are people
Calabria is NOT a part of Sicily. It's another region of Italy, just as Connecticut is not a part of New York... it's just another state.
Yes, I misspoke
Calabria is not a part of Sicily.
Yes, I was wrong
You did a good tour to familarize folks with the area.
@@jakekay8419 thanks for watching
If you were a real tough guy you wouldn’t be wearing that useless cloth mask. Free the breath and fight the lie.
