I love how the Italian businesses are still thriving in the Bronx's Little Italy. Thank you for including the history of the family businesses and the interviews were fun to watch.
YESSSSSSS, you finally visit The Bronx again‼️I like how you talked to a bunch of small business owners in the area. They need all of the promotion they could get during these times🤘🏾💯
It's amazing to me. To know about Wall Street or The Empire State Building is one thing - to know about the history of a family bakery on a tiny part of the Bronx is off the scale. How the hell do you remember all this stuff?
It’s easy to remember something that you lived . It was a ritual on a Sunday morning after attending mass at Our Lady Of My. Carmel Church two blocks away to stop in Artuso Bakery to get pastry for after Sunday Dinner. Their Conoli were the best. Still are.
I use to live there 15 years ago. Now I’m In the suburbs right outside of Philly. For sharing this. I try to visit New York a couple times a year. But this is a great experience

Born there in 1939 Beaumont Ave & 187th street. Basically a little diagonal from Artuso Bakery lived there 22years until I married, go back Bout once a month to Arthur Ave to shop, touch base with a few old friends , It certainly has changed in the past 60 years ,but no matter when I walk the streets even though most of my friends and Family have past away their spirit is always there.
I am glad the Bronx is getting any attention here! Seems like Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens get all the love. There is a lot of history of the Bronx that has never been covered on this channel, but would love to see. Some old Bronx Historical Society tours are all that are up. The rest are pretty non-professional.
I am so glad you included Mario's Restaurant, one of my favorites since I was in undergraduate school across the street at Fordham University 40 some years ago. I now live across the country, but return to my favorite neighborhood in the Bronx regularly and always include a mass at Mount Carmel and the Arthur Avenue Market followed by a meal at Mario's.

Awesome stuff man. This video says it's a year old and I'm still going thru these. I've neaver been to New York but been a little interested since my son went and loved it. Glad I made it to your show. Hopefully your still doing these.
Great job Tom - my old 'nabe' - a lot has changed, but memories are in my heart and as the saying goes ' You can take the girl out of The Bronx, but you can't take The Bronx out of the girl' - so proud to call 'Little Italy' my real home!
Tom, watched your video last night and got the biggest kick out of it. I was born and raised in Belmont/Bronx, and they were the best years of my life. I LOVED that neighborhood in the 50s/early 60s ~ as far as we kids were concerned, there was no better place to grow up. AND we had the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Garden as our very own back yard. I wrote a book about it (it's still available on Amazon) and opened it with "Love Letter to a Neighborhood." (Belmont/Arthur Avenue: Little Italy in the Bronx.) Straight from the center of my heart. So, thank you for your wonderful tour ~ so glad you got Gil Teitel in there, he's a great guy! I only wish you could have seen it in the 1950s...99% Italian, with hilarious people on every block. Centanno! (Thanks to Lucy too!)
Much of the movie BRONX TALE was actually filmed in the Ditmars area of Astoria, Queens, NY. A lot of the original Italian Bronx either no longer exits or is populated by other nationalities. My favorite Italian sports figure is the outfielder slugger Rocky Colavito. I understand that he lived in the Belmont area of the Bronx during the 30s, 40s, and the early part of the 50s. He was very popular in Cleveland and Detroit back in the day. Rocky is having a hard time to qualify for the Hall of Fame. Maybe you can help him , Tom. There is a Rocky Colavito Fan Club on line.
My old neighborhood. Grew up on 2300 block of Crotona ave. Shopped at many of those stores with my Mom. My father owned a butcher shop on 187th street!
Visiting 30 days to explore the NYC this April. This is perfect to study further before I leave, and to re-watch just before I head out. I too am a walking addict. One learns much more about things on foot. Thank you.
Great tour, thank you. My grandparents are Calabrian, but they ended up in San Francisco....and then ended up in the Italian Cemetery just south fo San Francisco. Next time I'm in NYC, I'm staying in this part of the Bronx for a bit.
Tom: Thxs for the tour of little Italy. I always enjoy ur tour. Your the most informative and interesting tour guide. A loyal, dedicated, devoted subscriber. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video. As a life long New Yorker, it’s great that I get to watch these videos and learn something new about my city. You have a wealth of knowledge, thank you for sharing.
Your videos show the history of NY. demystifies the neighborhoods and turns out to be an alternative or a complement to the very touristy manhattan. Greetings from Portugal🇵🇹
It"s nice to walk through NY city like that. Thank you for the history and nice stories about the city. It's very amusing for the foreigners to have a tour like this.
Thanks this where I grow up. Thanks for taking me back! When I was a pharmaceutical rep 15 years ago I will always make sure I took my business to my favorite Italian restaurants in the area like Mario’s. Just love itThat’s funny I didn’t know you were going to mention Marino’s .yes!
Hey there Tom! I've just found your channel and I'm so pleased that the first video I saw was this one in the 'Real Little Italy'. Top work man, excellent video, looking forward to watching more!
Thanks for coming to my neighborhood I’ve been here since the summer of 98 I remember the old days from before my people took over back then things where different the stores where different but as kids we were often told to not venture into the main Arthur ave I still remember how it really was
This is one of my favorite neighborhoods. I've been going there for my Italian specialties since I was a child. Anne Bancroft, however, was born in what is called the Westchester Square neighborhood. Dominic Chianese is from the neighborhood, Al Pacino was born around there. The Piccirilli brothers have an illustrious career as sculptures. Also, you can't forget about the Botanical Gardens and Fordham University Rose Hill, all part of the community.
I’m from the Bronx myself and I’m just learning some of the history of little Italy and it’s origins and the brother Tom is funny cool guy good tour guide bro Cheers!
That was an awesome video! I did not know anything about Little Italy in the Bronx. I have always visited the one in the lower east side of Manhattan. I need to check this area out
I checked out this area during my trip to NYC! I didn’t realize I was in the Bronx😆 took an awesome pic in front of the “Little Italy” sign 🇮🇹 A Bronx Tale is such a great film!
This was great. Would love to see more videos on the different cultural neighborhoods in NYC, especially given the strong NY and Jewish heritage centers in NYC
I really enjoy your tours. I have a son attending Fordham Prep High School, so I have been to Arthur Avenue many times and it is so much better than Little Italy in Manhattan.
This is a fantastic tour. So informative. We’re visiting Little Italy next week for the first time and this clued us in on some nice spots. Thank you for uploading and taking us along. You’re very knowledgeable.
Love the videos---maybe this one is my favorite so far--simply for the historical and 'demographic' content. But I get the message, which comes through very clearly--and its very refreshing to reiterate in this way. Its a critical message to hear when thousands of under-18 folks are showing up at the southern border. Our country is the better for opening its arms. And New York's greatness is clearly a function of its diversity. Its a great message. You couldn't tell a truthful tale about any part of NYC, or so much more of the country, without pointing to diversity and immigration as a great feature of our history.
It is for sure better than the Manhattan the Area. It means so much to me thank you for taking me back. I live right around the corner from the shop for most of my life.
28:27 You said it a-ok lol. 28:35 They're called Qefte ( Chee-Fte ) I'm a new sub from coming across your Rosevelt Island video recently and loving your videos. The point on how people continue to go back to Arthur Ave. is on point. All of us go there and back to there because literally, everything is there and "FRESH" The Market for the meat, vegetables, Chestnuts ( which you were right next to ), the Turkish coffee that the lady has in her store you were in. There's just everything there and it's always welcoming, no matter which place you go to. There don't see you as a customer, they see you as an old friend. There was one thing you missed when talking about a Bronx Tale & Chaz... The spray painted mural on the side of the Car Wash with Chaz & A Bronx Tale. Excellent excellent video, super thankful for the education & tour.
I grew up in Ridgewood. Have not been to the reservoir in years, used to go there when I was a little boy, there were berry trees, all around the reservoir, still remember picking berries. Tom great tour.
Arthur Avenue is a "candy store" for adults. I always liked going there and then to the Bronx Botanical Gardens---paradise on earth! I've played for many weekend Masses at OL of Mount Carmel.
We have shopped several times here and near the holidays this place is wild. Good luck finding a parking spot. People come from all over to shop at these stores. It is not just the prices but the quality.
