Yeah it's so depressing meruem the perfect hero died of poison oh my god I'm crying so bad😭 f*** that piece of sh** netero who tried to protect humanity with his life !!!!!!!! He's the one who killed innocent people continuously and used them as food stocks really this netero guy should be in hell. He even killed a father and a mother of a child in front of his eyes and then immediately after taking the life of that child 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿 you're all sick in the head.
What makes this so much worse for me is just remembering how old Meruem is. He came to this conclusion about his life having experienced so little of the world. He's literally days old, He's like an actual baby. His whole life, he's being told what his purpose is and what he's meant to do instead of choosing for himself. And once he learns what love is or what gives his life meaning for him, it's all taken away from him.
Except his development, both mind and body were growing at an astronomically quick pace. I think maybe he was using his nen all along at an absurd rate, like how Gon upgraded his body, but Meruem didn’t know the technicality of it, and his body’s instinct to desire for power as “king” used nen. I personally believe that even if it weren’t for netero & the poison, he would die early. He was meant to only live for a short time.
Something I wanna point out is the fact that Meruem ended up becoming blind like her and needed Komugi's constant reassurance, a nice reversal of their initial situation. And then, wanting to be held, he lets Komugi touch him, something he hadn't done before besides the very tip of his stinger and his hand when he was worried after he killed the bird attacking her. For all Komugi would have known, Meruem could have been human, but upon holding him in their last moments, she would've known he wasn't, but she still held him and accepted him. The line between Monster and Human truly has blurred by the relationship between a Monster and a Human.
It’s such a tender moment, suspended in time. Knowing that they are at the end, all masks come off and the honesty hits so hard. “Hold my hand” ,”call me by my name”. That’s all we ever really want, companionship, comfort, someone to hold because the world is scary, and everyone is scared and confused. At the end of his short life, when he was the most wise and humble, somewhere between king and beggar, he got to die the way we all would want to. Feeling loved
What I haven't seen any reactor talk about this scene is Meruem's increasing vulnerability. He once had En greater than anyone in the world. He made Nen lights to light up the room they're in. And when his life began to fade, so did his nen lights and his vision. But the ultimate show of vulnerability was him constantly asking Komugi if she's still there beside him, not wanting to be alone. Edit: Wow, over 250 likes. Thanks guys.
Also the development of him constantly asking Komugi if she’s still there which is a drastic change from when nothing enraged him more than having to repeat himself. HxH is a masterpiece.

HxH really is one in a million. Meruem was born to be a monster, culling and consuming humans so he could stand on top of the food chain; in meeting Komugi, he found and accepted 'humanity', gaining feelings for another person who, outside of playing Gungi, doesn't GIVE him anything tangible, yet despite that, she becomes to the most important thing in the world to him. Gon started his journey, and spent most of it, as a boy who always did, or tried to do, what was right, helping anyone he could and never helping himself at another expense; then, after losing Kite, he changed, too. His spirit became hardened, and his sole focus, which started as simply rescuing Kite, turns into obliterating Pitou for what they did to Kite, even going so far as to almost risk Komugi by attack Pitou mid surgery. The biggest monster in the world became, emotionally, human, while a boy who seems to have all the good in the world inside of him forced himself to turn into a monster of destruction. Also, this scene will never, ever, let my eyes stay dry. I can keep the 'bad' crying in for most of it, but the second it Komugi says goodnight and that she'll be with him soon, I bawl.
You are witnessing here the peak not only of shonen or anime in general, but fiction. This is writing at its best. The poor health state of Togashi, and the death of Kentaro Miura Miura (author of Berserk) is two of the worst things to ever happen in art and literature history.
It's rare when I stay frozen speechless in front of the screen after consuming a piece of media, In this arc alone it happened three times and each time surpassed the other, I always remember this scene of Komugi holding Meruem with fondness and regret thinking about what could have been, witnessing their final moments felt like an honor.
