- Instructions for making a simple $2.00 sunshade for your DJI Phantom 3 Advanced or Professional model. Uses a Large paper "Lunch box" from the Container Store, www.containerst...
The Gable type I mentioned is similar, but slightly heavier paper.
An Improvement: Using some black poster board and the "lunchbox" as a pattern, I constructed a dark version of this sunshade which I now use. Open the lunchbox completely on the poster board and trace it. 79 cents for a sheet of poster board at a craft store.

Nice job! I took it a step further and bought a sheet of 1/8" "foamcore" that's white on one side, and black on the other. It cost $4, but holds up really well. I also made it using strips of Velcro so I can fold it flat. Thanks for the great ideas!
Following the KISS principle. Nice job Gary!

BEST DIY SUNSHADE is cheap and easy! congratulations
this is the most genius how to you tube video ever!
Blush...
Off to the Container Store soon...thanks! Looks great too!
Now that is smart and cool. Thanks for the idea and instructions.
The tablet hood by DJI is 18 USD where I live (once converted from my native currency). It's not too bad, plus it's rigid and can be folded.
I made one using small Velcro tabs instead of tape, then you can fold it flat for transporting.
It work very well with a box of shoes. Thanks for your recommendation.
+Sandrita Galarza Wouldn't the shoes get in the way?
So smart! I love solutions like this. Thanks!
Nice.Thank you for posting
very useful video. Thanks for sharing. I have an Ipad Air and a Phantom 4. I m thinking of modifying a shoe box to create a sunshade
I used some old cardboard black spray paint and superglue
The best and most simple shade . I prefer to use my iPad mini with its protective case but then it becomes loose with other shades. Thanks
An idea can change money and time .. Thanks Buddy
In the northeast that's known as a DD muchkin box
The container store must have changed the design of the boxes. The inside is now cardboard brown (not white as shown) also there is no perforated edge to tear of the bottom it is not straight it is tapered . Actually I was disappointed when I received mine but for a few dollars what can you say. Actually his on here looks better then the new ones.
+Pro Duffer Apparently the lunchbox is currently on backorder www.containerstore.com/s/1-piece-lunch-box/d?productId=11001008&q=lunch box Item #426050.
Bravo, well done!
yeah im going to do this, thanks!
Thanks ! Verk nice ! Hope i'll find à box big enaugh for my ipad air
Good tip 👍
GOOD IDEA . THANKS
I use a baseball cap on it.
Nice, thanks
Clever
Im sure you can pretty much use anything, a piece of cardboard would work just fine.
Good/Creative idea...thanks for sharing...But this is for the DJI Phantom 3 professional (i.e., not the Phantom 3 standard version), right? I believe the standard version has a different mount for it's "monitor". Assuming I'm correct you may want to state that in your description.
I'm personally looking for a way to connect my tablet (Samsung Note8) to my Phantom 3 as well as a way to create a shade for it. Still searching youtube video to see if someone describes how to do that. It may be possible to create a shade for a standard version using you technique with some mods.
Yes this is for the Phantom 3 Advanced or Professional, not the Standard model. (The standard drone actually came out later than the other versions.)
very nice video friend, but tell me about "nextbook ares 8" with phantom 3 pro. Does it work fluently while you are recording video ? what was your experience. tks.
The most I can say about this tablet is that it works "OK"...There sure are better tablets out there. I think if you want a lag-free smooth monitor, you have to spend some bucks on it.
Question on your ares...do you have any lag with it? I have tried my iPad mini 1 and I lags bad...
When I first got mine I tried using a iPad mini and it lagged really bad too. The mini 1 doesn't have a fast enough processor to handle to video input.
You should see the one I made for under $5.00 bucks....
AND PEOPLE still buying from the $30s, $50s and even $80s dollars for a simple sunshade.
I will make another one and put it on youtube...
Good idea I just paid 29.99 on Amazon talk about a rip off.
How is 69 dollars expensive an 800 dollar iPad is expensive
Bad news Bro! That tablet will NOT work! If you are an advanced pilot you will find that the video Lag can get you in a lot of trouble. Just sayin'
Yeah, if you're really a serious pilot, you're going to want a much better, pricier tablet. As a hobbyist, it works fine for me.
5 dollars on AliExpress. Check your couch 💵
Chingon
Very expensive. Lmfao.
lol its the exact tablet I use
