Yeah I know, instead the industry made REM a huge band. it just make me yawn thinking how that was possible when one watches the energy of the Plimsouls on stage
Definitely a Great Sound, saw them in 82 around there at Whiskey Go Go with Oingo Boingo ,i was on the run from the Texas Rangers and I remembered this one Song mainly, then Valley Girl came out and it flashback in my Time's of On The Run. Those were some good ole days enjoying Life!!🇨🇱💣🧨🍺🌮🍺🌮💥
I used to perform this song with my band in the 80's and when I sang the chorus it literally sent chills up my spine. It was the harmony with the other singer/guitar player and damn that solo is AWESOME!
I first heard that song while watching Valley Girl. So captivated was I that my 12 year-old mind made a vow that I would grow up to have a new-wave life that was kind of like a stylish early 80's movie. So...yeah....Sun Prairie Wisconsin. It's totally like if that song was an actual place.
Back in the day, I had a cool job performing stage security at San Diego State University and saw a ton of new 80’s bands pass through. I had the pleasure of seeing the Plimsouls perform several times. They were super tight, wrote great tunes and would really whip the crowd into a frenzy. Boy, was I wrong about these guys....... I thought they were going to be huge commercial success.
Around the same time on the other coast, another really talented band was equally prepared to shoot straight up into stardom. The SMITHEREENS. Catchy lyrics driven by a strong Rickenbacker lead guitar and a solid rhythm section, these guys rocked. While I never got to see the Plimsouls in person, I did see the Smithereens. Both bands should have done better. That's the enigma of life, no? Peter Case was really good.
Roger McGuinn is the Roger McGuinn of power pop. There's a reason he figures prominently on Pete's debut album. Pretty sure no less of an authority than, say, Cyril Jordan (Flamin' Groovies) would back me up on this one. Both he and Petty - among countless others - were pretty fond of covering 'So You Wanna Be...' live over the years.
Such a good f****** song I remember it the band was unheard of in here in America people really don't know him the song was popular in the movie called valley girls with Nicolas Cage 1983 such a beautiful powerful song they were a good man man very good good
I'm a designer. I know the visual world and what makes something visually appealing. I don't know music. Would someone who does know music please tell me why I love this song so much.
Do you really think the name was the reason the Plimsouls never reached a higher plateau? People said the same thing about a bunch of English rowdies during the British Invasion. The Rolling Stones seemed to have made a mark for themselves. I thought the Wall of Voo Doo would be in the same vein. Only they broke up much too soon. Names are rarely the reason with one notable exception: The ASS PONIES. WTF were they thinking?
@John Gerson I don't think McGuinn ever shied away from turning it up to 11 in his heyday - particularly during the Clarence White/Skip Battin/Gene Parsons incarnation of the Byrds. If you needed any - here's a much earlier piece of evidence of that - circa '66. .ua-cam.com/video/JT1TDEh_mHs/v-deo.html Unless you're talking about, say, The Kinks, Them, maybe the Nashville Teens (Tobacco Road) - this was about as heavy as it got two full years before Cream, Tull and Sabbath.
If I could only have 10 songs on my iTunes, this would be one of them.
me too and That's the Oldest Story in the World
This band should have been greater. They were better than their contemporaries.
Yeah I know, instead the industry made REM a huge band. it just make me yawn thinking how that was possible when one watches the energy of the Plimsouls on stage
Definitely one of the best songs that defined 80’s music The Plimsouls kicked ass!!
They didn't just define it. The Plimsouls kicked off the sound of the entire decade.
AMAZING! 2024 anyone?
YESSIR!!
Yeah, from Chile here... 🤘🏼

POWER POP AT IT'S BEST.

Saw them twice at the Golden Bear in HB. Their live album was recorded at one of the shows.

Boy, was I wrong about these guys.......
I thought they were going to be huge commercial success.
To crib a line from the late, great Gloria Swanson in 'Sunset Blvd' - They're still huge. It's popular music that got small.
To be fair, how were they not?

Yeah … ass-kicking performance of a truly great pop song …
Peter Case is like the Roger McGuin of power pop.

LA's finest. Hottest ticket in town in their heyday.
I was at this show. Best live band I've ever seen.
"Rock N Roll Tonite" TV show. VEVO has been officially uploading stuff from this show this week.
Wowowow!
They should be in rock and roll hall of fame nuff said.
Definitely influenced REM. Wow.
I saw this band in "Valley Girl"and it spawned a lifelong fixation. 😂
The song you made out to on your mixed tape
Valley Girl
Thinking about you...
One dislike? Check your head!
3 now. this world is insane
I'm a designer. I know the visual world and what makes something visually appealing. I don't know music. Would someone who does know music please tell me why I love this song so much.
R.i.P. David Pahoa
Anybody know the date this was filmed (and/or aired)?
TIMELESS
With a band name more appealing to the masses, these guys could have been huge.

do not listen to this or red barchetta by rush while driving....unless you want to pay higher insurance premiums
Red Barchetta is the best driving song ever
OKAY I just smoked birds, BUT MY NAME IS ON THE WALL. Bad Chinese Food. Great MEMORIES!
I always thought this was Brian Adams singing this song
Anyone know if they're together now, 2018?
Yes, an iteration of the group still tours
Sorry I would like to know the answer to that question!!!!!
If Roger McGuinn wrote hard rock, it'd be this.
8 million miles away, high...
@John Gerson
I don't think McGuinn ever shied away from turning it up to 11 in his heyday - particularly during the Clarence White/Skip Battin/Gene Parsons incarnation of the Byrds. If you needed any - here's a much earlier piece of evidence of that - circa '66.

@@chriscoughlin9289 Point taken lol. Cool clip of the Byrds rockin' it, thanks for the link!
The Replacements sound like they where influenced by this band.
they could have been huge
Anyone think Peter Case and Paul Westerberg could be kindred spirts?
Their Stairway...
Don Kirsher's Rock Concert
Anyone notice he messed up the lyrics in the 3rd verse? Still great though!
Byrds kick ass, haha.
i knew the bass player, we went to the same high school and lived in the same neighborhood.
