- This is a quick third episode in the series looking the PreSonus StudioLive 64s & Behringer Wing side by side for a heads-up comparison of the features that matter to you the most. In this episode we'll look at the @presonus NSB16.8 Stagebox Rack Ear Kit and how to set it up. These are a great option if you have a 16.8 as they add a lot of flexibility for installed and live users who want their NSB in a rack.

Never thought I would find a review of rack ears to be this interesting.
I like your 2x4 custom rack but what was PreSonus thinking with the torx screws? And mixing torx and Phillips head screws on the handles? WTF?
Very nice. I think your audio setup seemed fine. Sometimes simpler is better. The only thing I'd like to see on the rack ears is maybe the ability to relocate the IEC power to the front. Maybe just provide a knockout with a blank so you could use it if you wanted, depending on your setup. But yeah, pretty simple, solid looking design.
You could replace a cat5 connector for a powercon connector
Will you lose possible operating distance for the cat due to adding pass-thrus?
Hello, I've got a NSB 8.8, and I'm working with the StudioLive 32S. I am struggling to figure out how to connect a headphone output from the stage box. My musicians wish to monitor themselves and the mix from Studio One with headphones, but I cannot figure out how to route this audio.
Hey, thanks for the question. To get a headphone mix at the stagebox, you'll need to make a mix using a stereo Aux send, then assign that mix to a pair of outputs on the stagebox, and then you'll need a headphone amplifier where the musician is to amplify that mix from the stagebox to their headphones. Let me know if you're stuck somewhere or if that doesn't make sense. Thanks for watching!
After the purchase of the rack ears, it makes more sense to purchase the Presonus 16R for $30 - $50 more?
I'd say it depends on what you need it for really. If you need the XLR outputs and the second network port, then the stagebox is the answer. If you might want to use it as a standalone interface etc. and can live with the i/O limitations, then the 16R might work as a stagebox or you too. It's really going to be a personal choice though & it's nice to have the options.
greeting dcsoundop good video. i have a 16.8 and a 8.8 how do i link them together? i have a cad 6 from my mixer to the 16.8 into a, i'm coming out of b do i run the cable into the 8.8 a or b or does not matter?
Hey, sorry for the slow reply, not sure how this one slipped through. It sounds like you've got it correct, Mixer -> NSB 16.8 (port A) | NSB16.8 (port B) -> NSB 8.8 (port A). I'm sure you've seen it, but for anyone else who's curious, here's PreSonus's network guide pdf - pae-web.presonusmusic.com/downloads/products/pdf/StudioLive_Series_III_AVB_Networking_Guide_EN_11092018.pdf
Am I the only one who would swap the Cat5s on the back and then relabel the front just to have A on top...
Why personus dont have 32 an 24 ch stage box?
You can use the 24R or 32R rack mixers as stage boxes with these systems. It's a bit different form factor, but works & can be deployed on their own as rack mixers. Thanks for the question Desmond!
Could you tell the site of The ears? I live in Brazil, which become very expensive tô bring tem down here...I really apreciatte your help

can i use a cat 6a cable on a presonus stage box or it has to be cat 5e
Yes you can, here is a list from PreSonus on cables they have tested and some more info for you to check out - support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031841952-Ethernet-Cables-for-AVB-Guide
€100,- for a piece of metal and some connectors is a lot of money.
Am an event DJ looking to buy turbo sound speakers with ultranet can I use any audio to cat5 converter from my mixer to the speakers?
No, you’ll need a solution that is compatible specifically with the other gear you own. Not all audio over network cable is the same, or even networked. I would talk to your turbo sound dealer about this and see what they recommend for your setup. Thanks for the message Michael ✌🏼
For Turbosound speakers, you'll need either a Behringer or Midas mixer with the Ultranet ports to connect your speakers digitally.
