Hi Mark, I'm watching all your videos, getting myself psyched up for when my NuEVI arrives. I love watching Nyle in his element. My grandfather was a builder/tinkerer and had a shop similar to this. And I'm amazed at how much of a virtuoso Nyle is on the instrument. Thank you for all these videos!
I just wish EWIs were more popular and cheaper. Akai and Roland devices are so large and expensive. I'd like to have something smaller. Actually, I'm currently modding an old WX11 to see what works and what doesn't, but then maybe I'll build an EWI from scratch myself. If only NURAD was open-source hardware with easy-to-get components, especially those custom-made mouthpieces and a 3D-printed case.
Fantastic!! I think I'll finally be getting a NuRad this year.. incredibly excited. The patch changing Nyle did was slick. Love seeing the method behind the madness and the prototypes!
Thanks very much for putting the part info for the mouthpiece tubing at the end of the video. I'm waiting patiently on NuEVI waitlist, also gearing up to build my first windsynth (EVI?) and am wondering about what to use for several of the parts. Trying to figure out what they are and where to buy them. I see different kinds of rollers at McMaster Carr, and I heard Nyle say that he uses a "roller combined with a sleeve roller", but I haven't been able to find something that looks the same. Are these rollers also something that can be purchased at McMaster Carr? If so, what are they? And I'm also wondering about key buttons, thinking of just wrapping metal tape around some clothing buttons, but I assume there's somewhere I can buy buttons that are more like those on my Akai EWI? Thanks for the videos, and for any tips.
Thanks Mark for this very interesting video I am still trying to find the ideal mouthpiece for my NuRAD I guess a removable one could be interesting as different musicians my have different needs and way of handling this issue I do believe that having a hard part for the breath below and the soft larger part on top for the bite could solve my problems as having the 2 side by side make some issues when you bite too hard by stoping the breath Would be great if you could make a video on how to make mouthpiece !!! Thanks Fred
I should also say, I really love the mouthpiece that comes with the NuEVI and NuRAD's and they are like what the EVI has had for a few decades. This is just something Nyle has been working on as he's always in to optimizing things. Mainly the other mouthpiece versions are about making them quickly with common materials. Everyone can be different of course, but I find if you get the bite sensitivity into the right zone and give things a few weeks of playing to adapt things work out fine.
He is not going to produce them. But he is approaching the release of the circuit board with DIY instructions, focusing on best ease of build for people. He's been working on that for 10 years plus though and still not quite there and you never know how long or short that will be done. We all hope sooner-ish!

This is so great. Thanks for sharing, Mark, and thank you so much Mr. Steiner for continuing to develop this instrument. I love playing my NuRAD!

“I find that some of the EWI players have heard of Michael Brecker.” - Mark Steiner 🤣🤣

Glad you liked it :) I think Nyle would love to go more into how to make. I'll bring it up with him when I can and we will shoot a vid.

@@marksteiner3493 thanks that would be great 👍
Is Nyle planning on producing these piccolo EVI's with these removal mouthpieces and non-canister versions?

SWEET!
What sound module is Nyle using on this video?
I would bet on the JV-1010, but it could be the Roland Fantom XR.
