  • In this sequel to The Jolson Story, we pick up the singer's career just as he has returned to the stage after a premature retirement. But his wife has left him and the appeal of the spotlight isn't what it used to be. This time Jolson trades in the stage for life in the fast lane: women, horses, travel. It takes the death of Moma Yoelson and World War II to bring Jolson back to earth - and to the stage. Once again teamed with manager Steve Martin, Jolson travels the world entertaining troops everywhere from Alaska to Africa. When he finally collapses from exhaustion it takes young, pretty nurse Ellen Clark to show him there's more to life than "just rushing around".

Larry Parks should have won the Academy Award for his portrayal of Jolson. He was so good I watch over and over. Jolson's voice was the best ever.

Barbara Hale was an astonishingly gorgeous woman. I first saw her on Perry Mason when I was a kid, Black & White of course. Then later on the Perry Mason movies. But when she appeared in Jolson Sings Again, that's when I realized what a beauty she was, especially the final scenes.

This is one of my very favorite movies. My mom took me to see the first one and to this sequel. I remember it like it was yesterday! We got the soundtrack from both and I learned all the songs. When I first studied voice, in my 40s, I sang 2 of these songs for my first concert with my teacher! In recent year I began watching these on UA-cam and I remembered all the words to all the songs that I learned 70 years ago! I am now 82 and can still sing all of them!!!🥰🤪

At 77 years old, with my whole life being a total cluster fu_k... I can only imagine how wonderful and beautiful it must have been to have had a life like Al Jolson had.

Jolson was fortunate he knew what he wanted to be at an early age. Then did what he had to do to achieve it. Hell, I’m 81 and still don’t know.

Thank you so much for posting this. I watched all 10 parts. In many ways, this film was better than "The Jolson Story." Everyone loves a comeback, and this was a great one. Add the backdrop of World War II and Barbara Hale at her most gorgeous, and you've got a winning film.

At 1:36, it shows the record albums they had in the 1940s, we have at least two of those, they have 7 inch, 78 rpm in them, but two of the records we have were broken; one of these albums has Jolson's REAL face on it, so of course, in the movie its covered...

As Martin Scorsese prepares to film his biographical film of Frank Sinatra, it will be fascinating to see how the actor or multiple actors integrate the archival Sinatra recordings into a film re-creation of Sinatra performing on stage, in films, on tv and radio. Jolson had certain manerisms that were easier to imitate, although Larry Parks did a remarkable job. Also fortuitous that Jolson was still in spectacular voice and could re-create his signature songs.

Does anyone know how it did at the box office? Part three could have had more songs (Jolson sang newer ones on his radio show); then it could have shown his success with the craft music hall, his happy marriage and child adoption, his revived career on the road and with other stars ( guest stars for the movie); his going to Korea and his death. Maybe the fact that Larry Parks and his wife were in the least Communist sympathizers prevented a third picture. It would have been great being that the films are like songbooks with a story winding along.

Since it used regurgitated sets from the first film and shot many scenes on the Columbia lot, the cost wasn't high and Wikipedia said it grossed $5M, a relatively high figure for the time. So, it did well.

I love this movie, but do not love the fact your clip (all your "Jolson Sings Again" clips), do not play true. They are all slightly speeded up. Any true Jolson fan (or fan of this film) will notice immediately. What a disappointment!
