Jolson Sings Again (1949) Part 10
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лип 2011
- In this sequel to The Jolson Story, we pick up the singer's career just as he has returned to the stage after a premature retirement. But his wife has left him and the appeal of the spotlight isn't what it used to be. This time Jolson trades in the stage for life in the fast lane: women, horses, travel. It takes the death of Moma Yoelson and World War II to bring Jolson back to earth - and to the stage. Once again teamed with manager Steve Martin, Jolson travels the world entertaining troops everywhere from Alaska to Africa. When he finally collapses from exhaustion it takes young, pretty nurse Ellen Clark to show him there's more to life than "just rushing around".
Amazingly wonderful
Larry Parks should have won the Academy Award for his portrayal of Jolson. He was so good I watch over and over. Jolson's voice was the best ever.
My father God rest his soul and me would listen to him all night long. He truly was the greatest entertainer of all time
Jolson at over 60, singing on one lung sounding better than he had ever sounded is simply amazing! ‘The greatest Entertainer of them all in my books no one compares!
Espectacular.!!
Goosebumps
Wonderful movies. I love that Jolson finally found love and happiness in the end.
Fantastic
The Jolaon Story Was The Highest Grossing Musical Film of all Movie, Musical Hisrory , It Took , The Sound of Music, i. 1964, at Far Higher Box Office Prices , To Pass It, In The Top Musical Movie Catagory
Brilliant, simply brilliant. Larry Parks did a great job and, oh my, Jolson's voice is just superb. One of the greatest singers who ever lived.
Barbara Hale was an astonishingly gorgeous woman. I first saw her on Perry Mason when I was a kid, Black & White of course. Then later on the Perry Mason movies. But when she appeared in Jolson Sings Again, that's when I realized what a beauty she was, especially the final scenes.
And in one year The Immortal Jolson would be gone. But his voice will live on.
All of these Songs are Timeless Wonderful Movie
This is one of my very favorite movies. My mom took me to see the first one and to this sequel. I remember it like it was yesterday! We got the soundtrack from both and I learned all the songs. When I first studied voice, in my 40s, I sang 2 of these songs for my first concert with my teacher! In recent year I began watching these on UA-cam and I remembered all the words to all the songs that I learned 70 years ago! I am now 82 and can still sing all of them!!!🥰🤪
Larry Parks was perfection.
Boy I could watch him perform from the morning to the night.
ME TOO!!!!
Makes me cry everytime I watch it. They don't make singers like that anymore
At 77 years old, with my whole life being a total cluster fu_k... I can only imagine how wonderful and beautiful it must have been to have had a life like Al Jolson had.
Jolson was fortunate he knew what he wanted to be at an early age. Then did what he had to do to achieve it. Hell, I’m 81 and still don’t know.
The biggest Singer and entreteinmer of the world
Thank you so much for posting this. I watched all 10 parts. In many ways, this film was better than "The Jolson Story." Everyone loves a comeback, and this was a great one. Add the backdrop of World War II and Barbara Hale at her most gorgeous, and you've got a winning film.
What a SUPERB and Unique voice Mr Jolson had and Larry Parks knocked his portrayal clear out the park (no pun intended). Simply a SUPERB film
Larry & AL superb we will never see or hear the likes of them again. They Will live forever
Two of the all time best movies!
Love ❤️ you
I teared up at the end when he got emotional at feeling like he was so loved.
Me to. He is just brilliant. The greatest singer.
Well done Larry Parkes.1913-1975.
You are so right, the greatest.

Yeah my family and I watched both parts all our lives...Jolson was the original crooner!
Larry Parks was extraordinary.
This movie was GREAT 👍 the way Larry Parks put the songs over, and Al Jolson is just GREAT 😃👍👍👍

From a big brazilian fan...
what a wonderful film. Reminds me of my mom and dad. RIP both loved you so so much
Larry Parkes was wonderful
You cannot improve upon perfection!
At 1:36, it shows the record albums they had in the 1940s, we have at least two of those, they have 7 inch, 78 rpm in them, but two of the records we have were broken; one of these albums has Jolson's REAL face on it, so of course, in the movie its covered...
As Martin Scorsese prepares to film his biographical film of Frank Sinatra, it will be fascinating to see how the actor or multiple actors integrate the archival Sinatra recordings into a film re-creation of Sinatra performing on stage, in films, on tv and radio. Jolson had certain manerisms that were easier to imitate, although Larry Parks did a remarkable job. Also fortuitous that Jolson was still in spectacular voice and could re-create his signature songs.
Jolson did perform in the movie, all be it from far away,he thought parks couldn't get his moves right, grew up listening to this man,my father love bed him. X
The best singer who ever lived
I can't stay away from him
I listen over and over. No one could ever take his place.

TU VOZ SERA ETERNA.-
DIOS TE BENDIGA.-
JOLSON... UNICO...GOOD BY AND RIP.-
At 3:24, that Community Chest Benefit list of names again,
OF COURSE, I recognized the name Larry Adler, a great harmonica player, I have his record album when he was much younger, unfortunately he was blacklisted too for no reason ...
3:06 to 3:10, THAT... was fantastic
Does anyone know how it did at the box office? Part three could have had more songs (Jolson sang newer ones on his radio show); then it could have shown his success with the craft music hall, his happy marriage and child adoption, his revived career on the road and with other stars ( guest stars for the movie); his going to Korea and his death. Maybe the fact that Larry Parks and his wife were in the least Communist sympathizers prevented a third picture. It would have been great being that the films are like songbooks with a story winding along.
Since it used regurgitated sets from the first film and shot many scenes on the Columbia lot, the cost wasn't high and Wikipedia said it grossed $5M, a relatively high figure for the time. So, it did well.

Larry Parks better than Al Jolson
I love this movie, but do not love the fact your clip (all your "Jolson Sings Again" clips), do not play true. They are all slightly speeded up. Any true Jolson fan (or fan of this film) will notice immediately. What a disappointment!
