I watched this video right before my school social work interview and I did get it !! It also helps that i have a lot of experience working in the pediatric emergency department . So working in a multidisciplinary team comes natural for me !! Good luck everyone trying to get into school SW, it is very competitive in NYC!
You are a LIFESAVER. I have an interview this afternoon for an elementary school social worker and I want it so bad! So glad I came across your videos!!
Thank you for this video! Super helpful. I graduate with my MSW in May 🙌🏾 in TN but wanting to move to NC. When would you suggest applying for jobs for school of social work?
Hello, I really love your channel. It definitely inspires me to keep going in school and makes me excited for my future! Great tips and also your voice is so relaxing ! lol
Hi there! Thank you for the helpful videos! :) Do you recommend bringing a school social work portfolio, a general social worker portfolio to the interview?
Hi! I love your videos! Can you help answer a question about conflict? For example: how would you handle a situation where you disagree with the principal?
I have friends who are SSW who only have their MSW. In Virginia you are only required to have taken certain courses in your MSW program, but some districts let you complete the courses in a specific length of time.
I interviewed for just a school secretary role, and it was my first interview for a school job. It was weird because they only asked me 4-5 situational questions, and didn't ask anything about my background (years of administration work.. but they seemed uninterested after I said I didn't have experience working with children) But one question they asked was how I would handle a school shooting. I stayed very calm and professional and basically said I'd follow whatever their procedure is, lock the doors, and make sure the children in the immediate area are safe (even though I'm in the admin office?) Yeah idk that caught me off guard. Would a social worker get asked these heavy questions in a 1st interview? Just so weird that I was only applying for the secretary. I didn't get a 2nd interview but it's okay, I realized I might not like working in a school anyway.
This happened to me and I didn't get the job, but they said to prepare for a case they gave me and I had to write a few paragraphs , they said I would have 30 min to explain my response in the interview. When I got there, they asked if I was prepared to do a "demo", then they were like well since you're not prepared we won't make you, then they literally asked me what is my experience with suicide and how would I handle a suicidal student. I answered and I said that at the end , I would then follow the school protocol on reporting", they moved on without explaining their protocol/procedure, then asked me "how would you handle an ACS situation?" mind you, they know I am just out of social work school and only have internship experience. They never gave me time to speak about the case I prepared which I had to submit 12 hours head of time. They had me basically interview with 3 people at once and then they said I would speak to a peer social worker, and instead it was like ANOTHER interview.

What to do for a "School social work demo"? They said I should prepare a 10 minute demo...
Do you have to have a LMSW or LCSW in order to become a school social worker?
