SO happy to finally have come across someone who speaks so openly about their experience as I'm currently in grad school for school counseling (K-12) and I just love to hear others' experiences and advice!!
Wow I was in class on Friday Basic counseling class and my lecturer warned us about taking on everything and bringing it home...boundaries are important 🇯🇲
I absolutely relate to your video. Thank you for this one. I currently am a school social worker for a High school opportunity academy as they’re called in DC (aka alternative school). But ironically per the end of your video my ideal is in the sports setting. I just sent my application in earlier today for the alliance of social workers in sports, sport social work certificate program to help me in that journey
Thanks for sharing...I am in the profession for a few years now...At first it was really challenging but having support from others made is easier. Nice video!!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am currently a school counselor and I am Interested in opening up my own private practice. Would you please do a video on how your transitioned out of school counseling to your own practice ? Please 🙂
@OhSoLimitless Thank you for sharing your experience! Your video was helpful for me. I've been considering becoming an elementary school/high school social worker/counselor and was wondering if what you described as some of the cons of being a college level social worker/counselor would be different from working with children and parents. I would think it would be different. However, your video was still very helpful in that I could take what you experienced and apply that to what it could be like working in this field in the lower school grade settings. Warm regards
Hey, it is slightly different and there are way more pressures from prinicipals at various schools that you may work at as a social worker. I've had friends in that field who've experienced burn out really quickly but i think it depends on your school board and ability to manage various settings
Hi there! I really appreciate you sharing about your experience. I am currently trying to decide what kinds of programs I should pursue to eventually work at the college setting as an athletic counselor. I have been accepted to MA in education: school counseling program which is more suited for k-12 and am not sure if that is the right program for me. Thoughts?
Is there a difference between a school counselor and an academic advisor? And do high school guidance counselors advise in academics and act as therapists? I'm interested in applying for a counseling program and working in schools but unsure which program to apply for. ...which program did you go to?
