Indeed. During the early to mid 90s there was a surge of quasi-independent and very talented acid-jazz and nu-soul artists that were releasing high quality and memorable music. 🎧
Same thing just happened to me with Would I Lie to You by Charles and Eddie. My effing 18 year old self came flying up from the past to sing it full force in the Rowe's IGA supermarket like I was possessed.
@shelliereumann2617 oh maaan that is so funny!! I have the most hilarious scenes playing in my head now....would you do the piano runs over boxes of croutons or packages of blueberries?! 😅
Dionne Farris is one of those ones who fall in the category of underrrated - someone mentioned she was before her time and I agree. If she debuted right now, she'd be near the top but as it stands, I'm glad she came out when she did. Some of her songs bring back some really great memories, especially Hopeless.
Who was having more fun than these guys during this jam session? :) Dionne, Alanis and Sophie B. Hawkins were the gorgeous, natural, boot-rocking idols for us girls who were tomboys back in the day when their music was released. Such good memories.
I was married to my now ex husband and pregnant with my daughter when this song came out. First time I saw the video I remember thinking what am I doing...Im gay. 😂😂
I can remember herring Dionne Farris “I Know” on radio and seeing this music video on VH1 and MTV back in 1995 I grew up just on the Baltimore City line in Baltimore County Pikesville MD and I was in my jr year college when Dionne Farris came out with this hit, I was either 20 or going on 21 in 95 I just don’t remember what time of year this was released, a lot of r&b, love songs came out around the same time, (Boys II Men, All4one, Toni Braxton, Ace of Base) all good singers and bands back then, I still listen to a lot of love songs, 80s & early 90s r&b, even back to the mid 1970’s when I was a kid growing up theses songs and artists were apart of my life, got me through many long nights and lonely days back then, between B102.7 and Mix106.5 in Baltimore were my go to station back then, my kids and even my granddaughters today look at me funny when theses hits come on radio or any of the music video stations on tv thanks to whoever put this one up a lot of us still listen to this day this was when music was real at lease in my opinion 🥰 🫡 🙏
They looked like they were having so much fun in this video this song is a Classic it warms the soul. You could blast this in your car a dance like a fool Lol
Listening to this song as a 40yr old, this song has a whole different meaning. I was 15 when this came out and didn't understand the weight of it. I love you Dionne!
this is THE 90S song for me. Whenever I think back to that overall feeling of back then when I was a kid, living in my hometown - it's THIS song that brings back that entire feeling immediately.
I have always had MAD RESPECT for any black FEMALE music artists like this who think OUTSIDE the box and SHOW the black community we CAN do MORE than just the typical R & B and rap! The sad thing....these record companies act like they DON'T know what genre to put us in AND the promotion for artists like your Dionnes', your Corinne R. Baileys', your Ledisis', your Andra Days, etc... are SEVERELY lacking and if you think about it, doesn't make sense! The interest IS there....the support is NOT! We need to somehow start bombarding these companies with comments like ''hey, how come this person isn't promoted on THIS radio station?''
Blues: Bobby Johnson Rock & Roll: Sister Rosetta Thorpe Country music derived from Afican slaves. We MUST Gate Keep unapologetically. Becaus We're being erased. Culture Vultures benefit more than we do
When this song hit, I was a manager at The Gap. We had to listen to that damned "Muzak", customized, trendy music for marketing, playing over and over and over...even great songs would wind up making everyone sick of hearing them. But THIS SONG we never got tired of- ever! It always lifted everyone up, we'd sing along, sneak a little dance in between the racks of clothing. I still love it! What a voice! What a band! Indeed. During the early to mid 90s there was a surge of quasi-independent and very talented acid-jazz and nu-soul artists that were releasing high quality and memorable music. 🎧
@@andrewilson7538 thank you for your comment
so well said … oh those rich chords, transitions, bridge, fine piece of magic.
Yes this was a great time in the 90s my childhood right here
This made my heart smile 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
I just heard this in a grocery store and remembered this was my favourite song for a long time as a kid!! LOVE this!! ❤
I heard this in Walmart just now, and here I am 😅
Same thing just happened to me with Would I Lie to You by Charles and Eddie. My effing 18 year old self came flying up from the past to sing it full force in the Rowe's IGA supermarket like I was possessed.
@shelliereumann2617 oh maaan that is so funny!! I have the most hilarious scenes playing in my head now....would you do the piano runs over boxes of croutons or packages of blueberries?! 😅
@@marvanbee lol!! It would have been Oreo cookies for the black and white keys! 😋...and they're delicious for a post concert snack. 😂
So did I!
Dionne Farris is one of those ones who fall in the category of underrrated - someone mentioned she was before her time and I agree. If she debuted right now, she'd be near the top but as it stands, I'm glad she came out when she did. Some of her songs bring back some really great memories, especially Hopeless.
That bridge showed the industry that she was seriously slept on. Her vocal range? Solid as hell!! Loved her since Arrested Development!
Such a cool song. Great voice and talent!!!
Who was having more fun than these guys during this jam session? :) Dionne, Alanis and Sophie B. Hawkins were the gorgeous, natural, boot-rocking idols for us girls who were tomboys back in the day when their music was released. Such good memories.
Who would have thought that violins and her singing could sound so beautiful together?!
She a very good singer.... And so underrated. And now her daughter sings rap. Her daughter is now on Hip hop Atlanta. Amazing voices 😍
She has an adult kid? If that doesn't make me old Idk what does.
@@KarlaHolland right 😆
i agree
Fun fact: Alice in Chain's current frontman, William DuVall, co-wrote this song.
I was married to my now ex husband and pregnant with my daughter when this song came out. First time I saw the video I remember thinking what am I doing...Im gay. 😂😂
Right there with you right now. Sometimes you just gotta be brave. You were.I am. ❤ I am inspired.
The harmonizing at the end always gives me goosebumps
The moment all the vocals n instruments rest for a good beat in unison then starts up is definition of a solid band.
Always loved you dear Dionne Faris❤❤❤
I'm surprised she wasn't a big star this girl had it all
They looked like they were having so much fun in this video this song is a Classic it warms the soul. You could blast this in your car a dance like a fool Lol
Dionne took this gem all the way to #4 in May 1995. Thanks for postin!!
And it went to #1 on Radio 'n Records in '95
Yes I remember that! Video was always playing on vh1 and mtv
It came out in my senior year of high school
Should have been no. 1
Her biggest hit
Listening to this song as a 40yr old, this song has a whole different meaning. I was 15 when this came out and didn't understand the weight of it. I love you Dionne!
Yes! Same!! It blew my mind back then and does even more so now 😮
I remember when they used to play this on MTV
She shouldve been a much bigger star! Great voice, great look, great sound. Love it!
That funky drum beat, that slide guitar and that warm toned bass! So amazing!!!
I went rollerblading rocking this track on my Bluetooth speaker. Blading like it’s 1994.
I loved this song in the 90’s. I thought she was/is gorgeous. I think I even had a little crush on her.
I STILL have a crush on her!
Absolute classic!
I woke up with this song in my head after not hearing for years and years! I’m glad I️ did because I️ really forgot what a killer song this is.
Same. I didn't know who it was but I remember it being a jam!
Same here! Weird
me too!
Jeff Panetta heyyy same 😂
Same thing happened to me today!
She gives me Life! Thank you, Lord, for the blessing of her voice. She comforts.❤
the bridge still gives me chills like it did when I was a little girl
Totally agree.
The way her voice SOARS...
...golden.
this is THE 90S song for me.
Well we did create every popular music genere, it's more like we forgot❤🎉 🎶 😊
Blues: Bobby Johnson
Rock & Roll: Sister Rosetta Thorpe
Country music derived from Afican slaves.
Dionne is just fierce ❤
❤️❤️❤️
The Gap? What's that!!😅
Once again, thanks New York Undercover for reminding me of another classic 👍🏾
This song still kicks ass in 2020. So uncatagorizable, fresh, and so 90s! I miss the 90s. This song still gives me great feels all these years later.
Does using Generation Clueless terminology make you feel relevant?
@@josephkingsford8480 does leaving snarky comments on UA-cam make you feel empowered?
Top 5 artist in my Spotify wrapped in 2024. 😊
Apple Music popped this up randomly on my Saturday morning. Absolute BANGER smash hit!!! I miss the 90's!
Brings back memories of the 90’s… Just heard this song watching NY Undercover… lol
