    Great Mick Green, our little gang saw them record out of their skulls in some Fulham pub I think. Teddy boys danced on the tables. Greatest musical experience I ever had. Thanks xx

    I will never forget the gig when I saw your dad in the Pirates around 1977 / 78 at my local sports centre here in Harworth, near Doncaster.
    The power and sheer energy from all three band members combined was a sight and sound no other band had,,except the Ramones.
    Mick Green had a pint bottle of milk on the floor next to him, he would drink between songs!
    Mick Green, the complete guitar player.

    Your dad was magic to hear live I went to most of the Pirates gigs from 2000 onwards and loved every minute. Since I was 4 years old and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates were on the telly doing I'll never get over you I have been a fan. It was great that your dad was in demand with Van, Paul and Bryan. Such an awesome talent and you are no slouch on the guitar yourself as I remember from the 100 club. Thanks for the memories.

    Thanks, great to see that legendary guitar brought to life. Dad, can you turn it down a bit! Ha ha, most of us had their dad's shout that at us.
    Seriously though, many thanks, your dad is not forgotten, I still listen to the Pirates often.

    The Pirates were a phenomenal band three ‘old’ geezers who garnered so much respect from the whole early punk scene in spite of them being 10 or 15 years older.
    I remember I used to love that song Witch Queen of New Orleans from first hearing it as a young kid when it was a big hit. I never realised Mick got the riff from You Don’t Own Me from that. Listening now I guess there is a similar vibe.
    Very interesting video it’s a shame The Green Brothers don’t play live anymore

    Thanks for sharing. Mick’s guitar playing was inspirational. I bumped into The Pirates just after what must have been one of their last gigs in Morden I think it was. They had just come off stage and I was slipping off a bit sharpish, straight after the encore. They thanked me for coming - true gents. Thanks Brad

    What other electrics did Mick have? I only ever saw him playing this Tele, a Peavey Tele and a black USA strat. Did he ever use pedals when doing sideman gigs with say Bryan Ferry or Van Morrison? A friend of mine spoke to Mick after a pub gig and said he wasn't that into having loads of guitars - apparently he referred to guitars as just wood and wires :)

    • @jamesoliverguitar
      @jamesoliverguitar  4 роки тому

      He had a black les Paul custom he sold ....and in Johnny Kidd a 63 tele and a 59 les Paul junior I think you’ve got the guitars he used correct .marshall amps ..no pedals I believe

    • @cshamble
      @cshamble 4 роки тому +1

      Wow no pedals even on the big gigs. I've got my gig set up to a channel switcher/boost unit for my Peavey, a korg tuner and boss delay for solo's occasionally. I saw the LP custom on the 70's pirates gig footage. He had a Gibson L6 solid body took didn't, was that sold as well?

    • @chrislancaster7162
      @chrislancaster7162 3 роки тому +2

      Thank you both! Just asking as I read an interview with Pete Townshend where he said
      “The first guy that I met - my idol in England, was a guy named Mickey Green, who used to play with Johnny Kitten [sic; Kidd] and the Pirates, and he was the first big note-bender, particularly on the G. And you’d freak over Jimmy Burton and you’d freak over Mickey Green and you wondered how they got that sound. Went to see a guy about it and he said it was the thin G, he uses like two 2nds instead of a G, right? So I got my guitar and I really got into it. I got to see Mickey play, and I went back stage to see him and I asked him if I could play his guitar and he said, “Sure, man.” I picked it up, and he’s got strings like bloody piano strings, they’re huge! And the G isn’t plain, it’s wound, and he used to stretch it practically to the A string and beyond. Big hands, and he would pull it down and tuck it under as well. “
