A super film which contains all the fatalism, pessimism, and menace of the genre. Superbly acted, I especially love the first moments we see Ed Begley when with the exultancy of a desperately greedy man who thinks he is finally getting what he wants, he exclaims "right on time Slater, right on time." His expression is priceless.
It's a superb film. It addition to wonderful acting the cinema-photography is magnificent.
Excellent movie! Harry Belafonte outdone himself in this high-intensity crime drama
from 1959! Pretty good stuff from a guy who started out as an acting student,at the
Actor's Studio,then became a famous calypso singer!
Gloria Grahame (sp?) really came up with a special performance in this. A trippy dame who can trip you up. Fascinating actress. About time I saw this film...I've seen the soundtrack in the Jazz bins since the sixties....
I love the SCORE!! Imagine creating a painting with this fantastic soundtrack playing in the background!! There's so much m9vement in that music at the very end...the symbols..
18:10 "So which is which?" "Make your pick" The pointlessness of racism. This pretty much sums it up. Great film. Thank you very much for sharing.
Very welcome - one of my favorites.

Yes, it´s like watching a farewell to film noir .Noir characters and icons(Robert Ryan, Gloria Grahame) older but not wiser, just more desperate, a stunningly beautiful picture with a great sountrack: One last farewell but also the beginning of something new. Never seen it before but by now one of my favourites as well.
silenceseaandsky stunningly beautiful? Depressingly dark is more like it.
@James Bomar: They're not mutually exclusive. Beauty isn't always sunshine. Light and dark have their own distinctive beauty.
Really atmospheric film with a strong plot and great ending. Thank you for uploading.
+Stella Yates My pleasure Stella: makes the uploading worthwhile, and always happy to have another fan of this gem.
"Made it Ma,top of the world"!
Great film.
This is a very good movie. Highly recommended.
Possibly the definitive fatalist noir. I think only Detour can give this film a run for it's money.
The Shanghai Gesture can too
classic film...thank you for uploading it
Mia Corazon Very welcome Mia.
Great film!
"Made it ma"! " Top of the world!"
Very good movie with excellent acting. But I was rooting for the crooks. However, in 1959, the authority always wins. I guess I'll have to wait for the 21st century to watch a movie where the crooks win!
I also fell in love with the MUSIC SCORE!!
A very young Cecily Tyson played the bartender, but it's not in the credits.
+Lolo1130 There are also other parts/actors who are not credited.
I really enjoyed this film, racial tension & great cars with lots of exterior shots. Thank you.
Very welcome.
Melton = Hudson

Pretty good movie.
The Ending Was Just Like "White Heat ". Only Difference: It Had 2 Men Being Blown To Kingdom Come Instead Of One. I Await Your Answer.
@Matthew Bulger: Was there a question, or just an observation?
What a gas.
See how the shadows of the bars predict the future of the older guys future! I forgot his name.
