  • In this Video-Lecture Professor Fink describes the Histology (Microanatomy) of Skeletal Muscles by "zooming-in" on a Skeletal Muscle to the level the skeletal muscle cells (fibers), then to the myofibrils, then to the Sarcomere Units, then to the Actin & Myosin Myofilaments. Professor Fink also introduces the relationship between Excitation (the generation of Action Potentials by the influx of Na+), the role of Ca++, and Contraction. Reference is made to striations, Transverse (T-) Tubules, Lateral Sacs (Terminal Cisterns) of the Sarcoplasmic Reticulum, the Sliding Filament Model, and Excitation-Contraction Coupling.
Part 2 of this video covers Visceral Smooth Muscle & Cardiac Muscle Tissues. Here is the link: • ANATOMY; VISCERAL SMOO...

I enjoy your lectures daily. I wish I had lecturers like you in my Uni days and earlier, however, it's never to late to learn and to throw some fresh light on subjects I have considered too difficult to study. Concurrently with your Biology lectures I am learning from you about Anatomy etc. Are you still lecturing?

    Hi ,
dear sir , your videos are very nice and knowledgeable and for this effort I have no words to say, but I salute you.
sir I had a small question if you clear it I will be thankful to you, if we have 650 skeletal muscles and make 40% of body weight, so what about visceral muscles , I learnt in physiology that it is 10%, so can we cout I mean is there any specific number like we have 650 which makes 40% so may be there will be some figure for visceral muscles.

I have a genetic defect in the gene MYOM1. I don't know anybody else (a part my mother)with my disorder and I try to understand how muscles contract/relax. I have to eat every 4 hours in order to get proper energy to contract my muscles and to relax them. The problem is that sometimes I need to sleep more than 4 hours and unfortunately my muscle in that case get very stiff. I think my muscle receptors can't receive the proper energy for some reason. Which is the link between the gene MYOM1 and the ATP?
