So I think those NGO’s need to be named and shamed. Wasting money that could be used for the homeless. If I was a funding body I would be seriously worried about how that funding is being spent. If the majority of the funds goes on court cases and salaries then they need to be defunded because the money isn’t meant to prop up the workers and their opinions.

Kak comes from Cac, Greek, meaning nonsense, bad, unnecessary, etc. but NEVER actually meaning excrement😅. Can also be found in words such as cacophony.
There are few words in Afrikaans that are wrongly used as bad words. Poes is a Dutch word for cat. Slapped by a cat. Hot as a cat (on a hot tin roof). As angry as a cat. ALL makes more sense than the other way round.
Afrikaans in itself doesn't actually have "bad" words (name one), just "bad" minds using normal words in a "bad" way.

I don't know how the residential premises around Parliament can have no loadshedding simply because they're near Parliament, because I worked in Parliament for more than 30 years, ie since long before we started having loadshedding, and we certainly had most if not every single shift of loadshedding indicated by the app. We didn't even have UPSes to keep our PCs running until the generator kicked in, so we would have to switch them off, if we realised in time that a shift was about to start, that is, and switch them back on again when the mains power was off and the generator had kicked in, and then switch them off AGAIN when the shift was about to end, because the generator would first turn off before the mains power to that network could be restored!

The state of clinics in South Africa is abysmal. I have spoken to about this, to roughly 100 people as a part of a research project. This research has been done with people who have no other option but to go to a clinic ,certainly not with for example Netcare??? No absolutely no. And the service is staggering, unbelievably incompetent. There are unfortunately many people in the Healthcare especially in provincial and state hospitals and of course the so called clinics. And all South Africans are tired of it. How many people told me they will rather die , than go through the process. None of the working class ,who earn salaries or have a' peacejob' for a day or two can afford to sit and wait for the clinic system to process them. More and more people are opting to just live with their conditions or even life threatening illness. Less traumatic than going for help. Can we be proud or supportive or peaceful about a system that is already broken.

I'm becoming rather desperate for a valid and preferably rational response to a question that arose more than a decade ago. Mayor Geordin's mentioning spending a billion on Escom, reminded me of the question.
In a nutshell, I smelt a large rat when
(1a) I encountered an organisation's varying budget figures that included a huge gap between a little less than 1 milliard and a little more than 1 billion, and
(1b) an article in a You magazine included a conversion between US Dollars and Rand that implied a rate of R11000 to the Dollar.
    My investigation revealed that:
(2a) South Africa was mocked in Wikipedia for using the short or US scale in respect of large numbers, and disregarding its own official long scale, which I confirmed by obtaining a substantiating document from the SABS.
(2b) The Wikipedia article disclosed only half the truth; only English speakers used the short scale, while Afrikaans speakers, and people such as I, used the correct long scale, as evidenced by references to 'milliard' (miljard) during news broadcasts and in the Huisgenoot magazine. Is it not insane that SA has/had different official standards in different languages?
I later discovered that Britain had switched to the short scale in the mid-seventies and apparently South African English speakers simply did likewise. In my view the logical change is from short scale to long scale. A long scale trillion (18 zeros) is already a short scale quintillion, but the British apparently just followed the USA, as South African English speakers followed the UK.
    Here is my question:
What is the current status in SA?
Has the official scale been altered or do English speakers still use the incorrect scale? Are there other countries that use the long scale?
