Cookiecutter sharks are unique amongst the deep sea monstrosities in that they have actually physically harmed humans as opposed to just mentally.
Absolute nightmare fuel. Imagine a terrestrial equivalent that you had to look out for on your trip to the grocery store 😳
They tried starting a nuclear war, they ain't playin'
Imagine having something bite chunks off you and you have no extremities to bash it off with 😬
I’m already “mentally harmed” by that thing just from watching this vid

The mario death sound always gets me.
'Amphibious assault cow' was another description I came across.
There's a reason people used to think they were carnivores.
I completely agree. My very favorite one, so far, is White, like houseparty in the Hamptons white.
"Size queens come in all sizes" 😂
If raccoon dogs are most closely related to foxes, it honestly makes a lot more sense now why both these animals shared a lot of similar abilities in Japanese folklore despite them commonly being depicted as rivals to one another 😂
Yeah, no, I really don't think the ancient japanese had any way to know the tanuki are biologically closely related to foxes.

Great video, thank you for spreading knowledge!
Domestic Cats do roar, it just sounds like a kid getting tortured. ever heard cats fight with eachother? Thats a Roar
@@50zezima of sorta, yes! And Cats spit and hiss too!
@@50zezima that's not a roar, it's yowling.
Literally they can't. They're vocal chords won't physically allow them too. That's why cheetahs aren't big cats. Only exception is snow leopards, who chuff like their close cousin tiger but can't actually roar. They're just related enough to be big cats unlike the littles who branch pretty far away.
I heard that large kitties (such as tigers) "splutter". It sounds like purring.

I’m so glad you talked about the Maned Wolf. Out of all the animals I worked with, they are the best. Bigger than a wolf but as friendly as a puppy. Vicious hunter who has a sweet tooth. One of the only carnivores you can walk in the enclosure of and not only won’t you get attacked, they may try to play fetch.

I like how maned wolf is so elegant and cute but sometimes also looks and acts like a skinwalker pretending to be several local animals at once

Sometimes I feel like it’s hard to believe extinct animals form millions of years ago evolved into these animals, but then I look at some of the animals alive today and realize that they didn’t go extinct
It's pretty baller to imagine the fact that the same species of cougars and jaguars alive today directly competed against saber-toothed cats back in the day.
@@An_Actual_Rat ikr
Yeah some of them didn't go extinct, they just upgraded ^^' for better or for worst considering things like the cookie cutter shark now exist and have been perfecting their dine and dash ways for how many millions of years? Nature do be wild
The clouded leopard... literally a real life Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.
I saw a pair of them at a zoo. Guess the title? Yep, it was indeed crocodiles of the world.
And like Tigger it also expert on jumping
But are their tops made of rubber and are their bottoms made up of springs?! I think not! :=). Seriously clouded leopards are so cool :=)

The bush dog got to be one of the most underrated predators in nature. Anything that small taking down tapirs with their pack hunting is phenomenal.

As a Brazilian, I would never forget my friend the maned wolf. Guará my beloved
Lobo-Guará is indeed a top tier animal.
Your descriptions of Beluga whales and Narwhals is honestly such a beautiful ship dynamic 😂
A good list, and I did in fact know about all of them. One of the zoos in my area had a clouded leopard, and it is truly a beautiful animal. You should have mentioned that the maned wolf lives on the pampas of South America.
You guys have no idea how excited I was when he talked about the Clouded Leopard! They're like, one of the coolest cats ever, and probably my favourite, but most people are like "Eh? What's that?" when I talk about them.

I have been waiting my whole (not rlly only since I started watching him) life for it! I knew all the facts he said about them already, but even still I was just absolutely captivated.
There was a little guy born recently at the OKC Zoo too!
I saw one at the Tampa zoo ages ago, they're so cool.
I love finding zoos that have them so I can go see them. My favorite wild cat
It sounds like the jaguar from go Diego go
That Clouded Leopard absolutely melted my heart
Yes. I have known about them for a while. Now if you think they melted your heart before, pull up "Clouded Leopard Images" Then pull up "Tigger from Winnie the Pooh images"
I appreciate the Narwhals for swimming in the ocean, causing a commotion cuz they are so awesome.
Not only did he remind me of all these unique animals I forgot about, but also one of my favorite shows from childhood. Man, I completely forgot about Alf
So, there are 2 types of raccoon dogs: The Japanese raccoon dog (Tanuki) and the Common raccoon dog (Neoguri and Mangut). Also the scientific name for this animal is Nyctereutes. They're usually common in Asia, but the Common raccoon dog has been recently introduced into Europe, where it's considered an invasive animal. The Japanese raccoon dog is distinguished from the Common raccoon dog for its smaller stomach and less fur.
not to mention it's massive ballsack 😂
Then there's Chopper from One Piece, who is constantly confused for being a Raccoon Dog when they're a Reindeer that can turn into several Humanoid Forms
Aardvarks deserve more love, they’re both adorable and also kind of a keystone species

Explain what you mean about them being a keystone species * asking for all the genuinely curious people like me that will see this*
I also want to add that Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece is a character who often gets mistaken for a raccoon dog, even though he is a reindeer. It's even a running gag in the show. I very much expected Chopper to be one of your points to what references we'd have for raccoon dogs.
6:24 "weasel beagle" lmao 🤣🤣🤣
To those curious, the Bakedanuki from Japanese folklore literally have testicle magic. Like, that's their brand. They can fly with it, shapeshift them into various objects and people, etc.

I've heard about 8 out of the 10 species here and absolutely LOVE them all. So unique and absolutely adorable!!! ❤ The amount of research you do and your narration is extremely impressive! (Actually, another fun animal is the Red Panda because it isn't related to ANY genus. It's its own species; kind of like the UNRELATED Maned Wolf. It's absolutely adorable and unique. A well-known animal of course, but just as fascinating!) Anyway, I ABSOLUTELY ADORED this video and thank you for all that you do for animal's by educating US about how amazing they are!!!

The segment on the cookie cutter shark hit a lot deeper than I expected. As a kid growing up, I watched this show called "Animal Planet's The Most Extreme," and the CC shark made the number one spot on the episode about "Most Extreme Bites [sic]." At the time, however, there was no footage or even any pictures of the shark due to how elusive it was. Now, 20 years later, we have a pretty good idea of what it looks like and in the past decade there have actually been encounters with them. This is crazy. This man is carrying the Most Extreme torch very professionally.
Animals I would add to part 2:
1) The hummindbird moth. These are actual moths that mimic hummingbirds for some reason. They use their proboscis like the hummingbird's beak to drink nectar from flowers, and they even "hover" like hummingbirds too. They can actually do it for longer since they don't get tired like hummingbirds, so it's kinda like when someone copies the answers on your homework and gets the higher grade. I saw one in Texas six years ago.
2) The vampire moth. This one can be interchangeable with the previous entry. Most people think moths are harmless and don't bite, but this one does, and it's definitely cooler-looking than a mosquito.
3) The basking shark. It's one of three major kinds of filter-feeding sharks known for its gaping mouth and harmlessness to humans. It's not harmless to your mental health, though. They have a very peculiar look, like they've been designed by Vincent Van Goh.
4) The mega mouth shark. Like the basking shark, it's a filter feeder, but instead of keeping its mouth open, it looks like it's permanently not impressed. Rarely seen by people, probably because we aren't impressive enough.
5) The grasshopper mouse. This mouse, despite its name and size, also hunts, murders, and eats tarantulas, giant centipedes, and scorpions. It also howls at night like a wolf. Don't take my word for it. Look up the National Geographic video. I couldn't believe it either. Also, in captivity, they've been known to kill and eat other mice.
There’s also the death’s head hawkmoth, which utters a loud chirp when irritated. They’re named after a skull shaped marking on their thorax.
If grasshopper mice were much bigger, wolverines would have serious competition!
I'm glad to see someone else remembers #5
Thanks! Am so gonna look these up
OMG the most extreme was the shit back in the day lol
Cloud leopard is like the cat version of a parrot. They are very chatty and also playful.
I can also relate about not many people knowing Narwhal. When I was in grade school the teacher asked us our favorite animals that lives in the water and mine was Narwhal because they are like unicorns of the sea. My classmates didn't believe they existed and the teacher has to pull up a picture of a Narwhal for the class.
I had the opposite experience. When I was in 4th grade (8-9 years old) somehow narwhals were brought up in class. Everyone in the class knew they were real but my teacher was fully convinced they weren’t, even after looking them up. He was our science teacher, that was literally during the unit on niches in nature
@@onesleepyboib8484 They do be giving anyone science teacher positions nowadays.
And people wonder why other countries criticuse our educational system.
I…. How do people not know what a narwhal is? Maybe it’s just because I live in Canada (though near the us border) and watched a ton of discovery kids growing up.
I thought you were going to say that your teacher didn't believe you. 😂

8:35 reminds me of a Latin American mythological creature called the Ahuizotl, specifically since it was known to hang around rivers and imitates the sounds of a baby or a person in distress. The Ahuizotl was described as a sort of big cat or canine with a hand at the end of its tail to drag people into the water and drown them.
