  • Hello and welcome to the third episode of ZX Spectrum versus Amstrad CPC games.
In this video, 8 games released in 1986 are shown running on both machines so you can see how different (or similar) they were.
And there are some great looking games in this selection, like Three Weeks in Paradise, Ghosts 'n Goblins and Heartland.
Thanks for watching and let me know in the comments section below who "wins".
And, of course, see you in the next RetroNoName episode

Some games looked better on the speccy as they had higher resolution but less color and others on the CPC.

      Agreed.
Dan Dare is a fantastic example of that.

I had some fun with both computers. Having said this; speccy , in most games, runs fluent. Those same games on amstrad sometimes did it (not always, of course).
But, some games, when were ported to amstrad (or vc) I´d dare to say they were almost 1:1 . Note "Heartland" for example.

Actually, for me personally, Dan Dare looks and plays much better on Speccy. 1942 and Ghosts look better on CPC but play better on Speccy. Others are just overall better on CPC.
As I said - in my opinion ;)
      And thanks for watching!

Most games of this era look better with scanlines, it's like the canvas upon which the graphics were drawn. I played and owned a C64 & Spectrum, hardly at all on the Amstrad, apart from the brother of a girlfriend's machine, but that was late in the life of the 8bits and I'd already switched to Amiga. Anyway, I liked how the Amstrad could do per pixel coloring but a lot of the movement was even jerkier than the Spectrum in a lot of games unfortunately. Get Dexter & Inside Outing looked amazing for their time on the Amstrad though, I was highly jealous of how they looked in C&VG.
I also agree that the Spectrum, even though in some cases didn't look as good as the Amstrad/C64 version, played better than the rest. Despite it's many obvious shortcomings that are hard to explain to a modern audience, the Spectrum was a great little machine. It gave us some great games and had a large role in establishing the UK as a major force in the global game software industry.
Though part of me wishes that the MSX took third spot, rather than the Amstrad...

General win for the amstrad with better graphics. Dan Dare better on the speccie tho (c64 one even better)

      Agreed with Dan Dare.
For me, 1942 and Ghosts also play better on Speccy (but gfx is better on CPC).

    • @retrononame
      @retrononame  Рік тому

The speccy was so bad compared to the Amstrad...

Not really. This is coming from someone who owned both back in the day. The CPC May look and sound better upon viewing but the Amstrad versions were often a bit slower and less responsive than the Zx counterparts.

  • @zlatkomladic5979

Zx always had problem with collisions and the sound. It was impossible to fit in everything with only 48k and the rest of the meager hardware..

      48k is heaps!
