  • Fellow Legends, welcome! Today we dive into another excellent history video. This time, about the horrific experiments that took place in Imperial Japan's Unit 731 headed by Shiro Ishi presented by Wendigoon. History is an open book cheat sheet to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. Unfortunately, people don't like to learn from their mistakes and refuse to evolve. I absolutely recommend that you go and check out Wendigoon, and you should definitely go ahead and check out the original video to show some support for the source material!

    Unit 731 was the worst case of when people see other humans as not truly human.

      I'd disagree on principle that certain cults have gone overboard in different ways. Not to this scale, but intensity in certain ways. Any inhuman torture is unacceptable.

      It's one thing if some randos in a cult go and do bad things.
      It's quite another worse thing when it's a government doing it with the force of law behind them...

      @@TheSkyGuy77 Agreed. Don’t know why Kip made that comparison when government sanctioned brutality like this is worse in scale. Example: The holocaust, Khmer Rouge.

    • @KipReacts
      @KipReacts  9 днів тому +6

      @Ender-bg2hx I guess I just expect it from countries at this point. The Soviet Union, Rwanda, China, Cambodia. It's just my expectation that countries do it and won't suffer consequences. The Soviet Union effectively declared bankruptcy, Japan had the protections Wendigoon outlined in this video. Maybe it's because you can't really do anything other than shake your fist and be angry, but ultimately accept a country doing things while you have more ability to hold individuals accountable. I can be angry that the US effectively gave pardons to people like Shito Ishi, but there's nothing that I can actually do. I can be angry at the Soviet Union for a number of things like the Holodamor, but who actually can be held responsible? I can be angry at Japan for denying anything happening in Nanking, I'm just a stupid Gaijin. There's not much that I can do other than signal boost that bad event X and Y happened, wake up people. I can tell people that idolizing Charles Manson or Ed Gein that they're being problematic and need to seek professional help. I can hold individual persons accountable if they choose to engage in horrific acts. Don't mistake this for acceptance. The moment people want to hold countries accountable, like the US letting Shito Ishi go, you have my attention. But, it'll never happen.

    i consider pol pot and the khmer rouge worse than Germany or Japan for one simple reason. In the latter, you knew where you stood. for example: if you were blonde, German, had no disabilities, and kept your head down you had no fear of a brutal death. In Cambodia, you could be sent off to S21 because last night Pol Pot decided that anyone who uses a double knot to tie their shoes is an enemy of the state. The numbers were smaller, the atrocities were less shocking (but still EXTREMELY bad), but there was no internal logic other than Pol Pot's paranoia.

    As a Korean, we learn a lot about the Japanese war crimes and the mistreatment of the Korean people during the 35years under Japanese rule and what Japan did during ww2 like the unit731 and forced labor in factories and coal mines and the comfort woman which as the Japanese empire grows more and more people were targeted to harsh treatment and have no time to acknowledge to have human rights but most western people don't know due to nazi war crimes are more featured in media and Japan is actively trying to suppress and erase their history and not trying to apologize to the victims and there families let's not forget and keep making these videos that more people need to learn so it never repeated again and so sad the us has slip under the rug japanese war crimes due to the much bigger coldwar wave and i hope more and more people stop using the rising sun flag and the design as just a normal design feature in sted think of the history under this flag

    The first time I learned about them and their "experiments" years ago, I couldn't sleep that night. As time went on, I somehow represeed the knowledge without realizing it. Years llater, I was watching a horror movie titled Dead Mine about treasure hunters chasing the legend of General Yamashita's gold from the war. Turns out the bunker they find was part of unit 731. The moment that was revealed, all the knowledge was quickly pulled out of the filing cabinet and spilled out across my mental desk. I didn't sleep that night either. Now I can't forget these horrific fucks.

    • @KipReacts
      @KipReacts  8 днів тому

      It's important to understand that you shouldn't torture yourself with the memory of Unit 731. Absolutely, horrific things happened. You can't do anything about it. You can understand the situation, and why it is considered horrific and barbaric. But, not at the cost of your sanity. There's people like Wendigoon and I that can look at Unit 731 and stress that people need to learn about this so we don't repeat the same mistakes. But, we also take breaks and do other things. I can't speak for him, but I know that I acknowledge the evils in the world and choose to reject them. We have an open book to not repeat the mistakes of the past that we choose to not use. You can only do so much. If you're educated, you've done more than most.

      Nah. I'm good, Kip.
      I just thought it was worth sharing the personal story of learning, forgetting, and then remembering/ basically re-learning this particular subject because it was relevant and had this weird whiplash effect. WWII was (mostly still is) the bread & butter AND the meat & potatoes of my historic interest for a long time, so I'm not a stranger to horrific acts done on an industrial scale.

    Sometimes I forget that the Japanese back then in ww2 were brutal af maybe even more than the germans cause it caused so much a shitstorm the Windmillbois party had to send an ambassador to tell Japan in Nanking to chill tf out and set up safe zones that the chinese made a statue of the ambassador. Apparently after coming back to Germany he was told by the SS to not speak of this again.

    Yeah the Japanese did a lot of horrifying things, so bad that even the N*zis were shocked.
    They played „games“ like „who can unalive the most babies“. One story I heard from a witness was, a Japanese soldier, they were transferring some Chinese prisoners and they were on a mountain path. One Chinese woman had a baby with her, which ofc would cry and cry and cry… thirst, hunger, probably a full diaper etc… the highest ranked Japanese stop the group and started screaming at the woman, basically saying she needs to silence her baby, which considering the situation was impossible, the Japanese kept screaming and that ofc made it worse…. She couldn’t stop her baby crying… the Japanese guy grabbed the baby and threw it of down the mountain and beat the crap out of the woman.
    They r-worded thousands of women and children!! Look up comfort women!
    Those Japanese weren’t human they were monsters!

      Tons of countries were effected. They unalived millions of people and nobody is talking about it. They still use the imperial flag everywhere even in the western world… nobody would do that with the „German flag“. People don’t even know what the Japanese did and unlike the Germans often didn’t admit to it, apologized or compensated affected people.
