They have different plates. The platinum plus has technology that constantly monitors the plate temperature against your hair to minimise heat damage. This should be noted for anyone with damaged hair

Does it tug at your hair? I’ve heard it doesn’t curl as well. I’m not sure if I should return it or not? I have the original ghd, it still works perfectly but I gave it to my mum. Wah 😩

Ty so much for this I have the same type of hair and was about to purchase the new platinum plus. I’m looking to use it to curl my hair and straighten. Sense it’s not going smoothly through the hair it’s leaving indents (plat. +) , I feel the gold would be best for me. :) I’ve been going crazy tryna figure out what straightener is best for me. Wow, thank you for this! I have never seen another reviewer just get into their hair and style without using perfect, tiny sections! I know that’s the right way, but I lack the skills and time to do it properly. Besides, I think many straighteners do a great job if your technique is precise every time. I knew it. Those two products shouldn't have much difference on straightening hairs. But many people will purchase the claimed "less damage" ones - platinum +.

Thank for this review! I got the platinum + and I am obsessed with it, but I noticed that my curls don't hold when I do them with this, I'm wondering if I should have gone with the gold instead. Is the gold good for curling and straightening?
Hi Tracy! The platinum + is gorgeous, I totally understand your obsession with it :) As far as your curls, does your curls usually hold up when you use other straighteners or curling irons? I'm thinking you could apply styling products to your hair prior to curling, this should hold the curls in place longer.

@@elletinglesASMR it is amazing, the platinum leaves my hair shining and my friends have complemented me on that. Now, the curls are loose and that’s because the barrel is bigger. I haven’t managed to get tighter curls even with styling products, but it does look wavy and like it was done by a pro.
Hi Tracy, I bought the gold and sent it back because the curls just didn't hold AT ALL. So sad because it left my hair so smooth and shiny.

Could you tell the difference in quality among ghd Gold Professional performance 1” styler vs ghd Gold Professional Advanced styler?
Hi there! I did the review on the newest Gold VS Platinum model, which are both high quality straighteners. I’m not familiar with the ‘gold professional advanced styler” you mentioned.
@@absolutelyadell does the ghd Gold has two boxes? Because I’ve come across two; one has ‘Gold professional performance 1” styler’ written the other has ‘Gold professional Advanced styler’ written on it.
I did a Google search and I see what you are talking about. I’m wondering if that is just a marketing thing because both flat irons look the same to me. They may have just revamped the box. When comparing them online, I see the Gold Advanced model box having the same technology and description as the Gold Professional performance. Sorry, I'm not sure about this

Thanks for the question :) I have wavy yet fine hair and have found the Gold to be slightly smoother and easier to handle. I would recommend either Platinum plus or Gold for you, they are both awesome straighteners and should work for your hair type.

Does the gold have a gap in the plates? Also are the plates floating plates ?
Is the plate gap the same on both the Gold and the Platinum plus?
Hi Stephanie- thanks for your question. No, there is difference in the plate gap between the Gold and the Platinum plus. The GHD gold doesn’t have the gap like the Platinum plus. I’m able to squeeze the GHD gold plates so the plates touch. I ended up keeping the gold and I love it! Hope this helps ❤️
