  • Initial projections in the second round of France’s legislative elections have the leftist alliance the "New Popular Front" in the lead. The coalition, which includes Jean-Luc Melenchon’s party "France Unbowed", could get as many as 215 seats. President Macron's "Together" coalition is second, with up to 180 seats. Marine Le Pen's far-right "National Rally" is on course to get a maximum of 150 seats, far short of a majority many had expected. 289 out of 577 seats are required for a political camp to reach an absolute majority. Following tonight's disappointing result for Macron’s coalition, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has offered to resign.

Then, because the other parties decide that they didn't like the result, they make backroom deals to prop up each other to manipulate the voting pattern in the 2nd round.
