MLK Jr. Wasn’t Who We Thought He Was | Ep 985

  • Today we’re joined by BlazeTV contributor Delano Squires to discuss social justice activists and DEI, marriage and the family, and whether or not Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian. Did MLK believe in the bodily resurrection? If not, does this mean his work was NOT beneficial to society? Plus, South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley recently said biological men should participate in women's sports if they identify as women. But does she really believe this, and what are the implications?

    Macarthur was not specifically going after MLK. He was commenting on how the organization Together for the Gospel crumbled by taking their eyes off of the one true gospel. That led to the organization honoring someone who didn't believe in that one true gospel, simply because he did some good things. There is one true gospel. Doing good things is not the gospel. When the Church makes doing good things the gospel then they have failed. MLKs work should not be celebrated by Christians as gospel work just because it was good. Likewise, Donald Trump's work should not be celebrated by Christians as gospel work just because it was good. Moral causes are not the gospel and will not save people from hell. There is one true gospel, a transformed heart by the power of Jesus.

    Question: If Jesus destroyed racism on the cross (which he did), why the focus on race? I have Cherokee blood in my veins, but you never hear me mention my race, because I am Christian. Is Jesus your absolute identity? If not, He should be! If we put Jesus first, all else will take its proper place (Heb. 12:1-2).

    • @stephenmac191
      @stephenmac191 Місяць тому +4

      Jesus did destroy racism on the cross. Just like he destroyed sin and death. But racism, like sin and death to, still exists. Why? Because the destruction of these things won’t be fully realized until the other side of eternity.
      The Bible also says there is neither Jew nor Gentile, male nor female in Christ. Does that mean that there is no difference at all between men and women? I believe everybody here would disagree with that!
      I’m reminded in the early church when the Greek followers complained to the 12 Disciples about them not being given the same amount of food distribution as the Jewish followers. How did the disciples respond? Did they say “why focus on race? Your identity should be in Nesus?” No. They designated people - non Jews to be specifically in charge of the food distribution. In other words, they didn’t pretend a problem doesn’t exist. Rather, they came up with a practical solution.

      @@stephenmac191Tbf race in that context was more of a national thing. It had more of a significance than what we consider as race today. Race (ethnicity/lineage) then meant you were an heir to Gods promise. The distinctions were very purposeful.
      The passage you reference is in regard to Christ and his lack of partiality. It doesn’t mean that we’re not different, but it does mean that our identity in Christ transcends our race, gender, etc.

      @@kamarwashington I’m sorry but I don’t buy that the race in that context was more of a national thing. So I don’t think there is much distinction to be honest. • @kamarwashington
      @kamarwashington Місяць тому +1

      @@stephenmac191 A simple reading of the Old Testament makes the national distinctions clear. Also, I don’t think anyone is saying ignore racism or something. The point is that that’s not the gospel, thus it isn’t of prime importance.

    The vast majority of people claiming that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was not a Christian have never read any of his actual books, but are going by school papers written when he was in a liberal seminary while being given liberal works to read and analyze.
    These same people have never read his book "Strength to Love," which is a collection of his sermons that tells us what he actually PREACHED to people. And if people take the time to read that book and others he has written, they will find that his Christianity should not be questioned on the basis of old school papers before he began preaching.
    I know what I'm talking about, because I have several of Dr. King's books, and I see, unlike others, how he does NOT repeat or reclaim his liberal school paper claims. So let's do better research about the man, and stop judging him merely on school papers.

    Brothers and sisters in the Lord, don't try to argue reality without the bible, especially in the public sphere. The Bible is the book of truth, and is the only thing that we can stand on. Trying to argue the moral principles and spiritual realities of the Bible without the Bible, is like trying to preach the gospel without ever mentioning Jesus Christ.
    It's the gospel that changes the person, which can change a family, which can change a community, which can change a town, we can change it, a county, which could change the state, which could change your nation. But the only true change comes through repentance and believing in the gospel of Jesus.

    I’ve watched at least two of your podcasts which I definitely love! By the grace of God he revealed to me some true side needs to deal with. Saying that the thing about Black Lives Matter above any other color in the world I can disagree on this podcast only because I’m white, I was brought up in an all black neighborhood! Philadelphia Pennsylvania go eagles! Saying that I sympathize with the Black people because they’re always on the spotlight so I understand these types of discussions. The lower class white people experienced! The same type of abuse becoming single moms raising their children why isn’t anybody talking about that? My father beat up my mother daily she divorced him but he he came back and did it again it’s the same thing no matter what color you are❗️ I just wish that someone would do a plane interview acknowledging that every race that God allowed to be no matter what color no matter what religion goes through the exact same thing! I hope and pray that you would do an interview like that and please contact me because I would love to listen to it. And if you want to interview me that would be great I have a story. And at the end of the story is that Jesus just the way I am. I pray for your podcast I thank you for it. I understand that people will learn from it. But I do not sponsor necessarily, the things that are going on with today as if the black population because in a spotlight we need to talk about all the time. If and so it is true, but it’s because of the media. There’s so many people who have been born Americans from our ancestors who crossed over here and started America, who were abuse mentally physically and spiritually because of their faith. But Jesus saved all of us who turned to him not because of our color, not because of our race, not because of what the world was feeding into her mind, it’s all about Jesus! Coming here in a human form to save the world! I would love., If you like, if you read all the way down here to do an interview with you. I love Jesus! He saved me! I was 24 years old! Regardless of my gender identity, which all your podcasts are great the few that I just watched. I’m just amazed that you by the wheel of God have not brought on just a regular person in the world that has experienced the top news propaganda, whether it’s political race, spiritual, and just bless for me against the name of Jesus! Please I would love to be if you like no big deal cause I don’t know what God wants. But please comment and get back to me I appreciate it in Jesus name I pray amen🙏🦋❤️✝️

    Enjoyed the interview and both perspectives (for the most part). So glad for his work to restore the family. But I didn't find there to be great clarity on the issue of slavery and why it is more complicated than say the issue of abortion. We can't automatically place a slave owner in the same category as one who kills a child. It wasn't just Thomas Jefferson who owned slaves but also Philemon. Philemon's salvation was not up for debate because he was a slave owner. But if he was presently killing children or walking in sexual immorality or even drunkenness, it would have been in question. American slavery had it's ultimate basis in manstealing which the Bible condemns. But I'm not sure that the Roman slavery of the New Testament didn't sometimes have similar origins. Slavery has different forms and develops over time and is definitely a nuanced subject. One of our founders said that he hated slavery but that it was a long established institution by the time he was born. There was also distinctions made between actively capturing free people versus those who had been born into slavery. There is no question the Bible undermines slavery, but not the same way that it does murder and promiscuity. It instructs believers to be obedient if they are slaves, but also instructs them to become free if possible and not become the slaves of men. However, it makes no excuses for murder or promiscuity. Though I wish the Christian West had never participated in slavery and we did so at great and just cost (including the great destructions of the Civil War), it was also the Christian West that did something unique in world history by abolishing slavery.

    This man came to understanding at end that all the theology he knew would not help him and that He needed call the Jesus for himself, and that he did
    God used this man in mighty way, ams only the Holy Spirit could take this 5"6" man and his boldness to look evil in the eye and still fight not for himself and for other's

    MLK was a preachers son and religious but was the progenitor of social engineering and the welfare state that has since run amok since his time. He focused on integration rather than self-improvement and empowering his community through faith, self-reliance and hard work. He ultimately died in vain with the black community regressing and becoming further and further left behind

    I do find it interesting, even though Thomas Jefferson did inherit slaves, at that time of history, it was illegal/extremely difficult to free your slaves as he wanted to. Many people don't know that Thomas Jefferson's first draft of the Declaration of Independence as well as a State Constitution included verbiage to free all slaves. However, when it came to committee, it was not allowed to go further.

    Google MLK's seminary papers, they're online. He attacks a biblical view of substitutionary atonement (which is the gospel) and the inerrancy of Scripture. He was an unbeliever, this is nothing new. Scripture instructs us to look at the lives of men in addition to their teaching. The apostles would never condone or treat MLK or Karl Barth as partners or legitimate teachers.

    Great conversation! I think we need to go back to the Bible on this and realize that men will always mess up no matter what great things they do. I was just reading this morning about Jacob and how after he wrestled with God he went to shechem and he built an altar and called it God. That's idolatry! I had never seen that before. And then when you think about what happened at Shecham after that... Wow. So yeah, the Bible shows us again and again that our heroes are not men. There is only one true hero...God!
