As an Australian, that the USA does not have compulsory registration &/or compulsory voting, if registered, is the automatic cause of these fluctuations in voting numbers. Also having your election day on a week day, without making it a public holiday, even with early & postal voting, is going to have an impact on the numbers of voters.
That will never happen in the US because a particular party and unfortunately a lot of their constituents actually want less people to vote. The US would rather elect based on landmass than population and that's purely by design. These are largely the same people that want to get rid of mail-in ballots and just stop counting votes after a 24-hour period(time frame varies) regardless of what has and hasn't yet been tallied, less time being allowed to vote, various forms of identification requirements beyond what already exists, IQ tests (which they'd fail 😂). Even the holiday or weeked voting is immediately shot down every time it's proposed. So yeah, not gonna happen unfortunately.
Also an Australian, from what I've seen of yanks culture, a lot of their population don't work anyway so that wouldn't have changed anything. Also as an Australian, if you're so wrapped up about yanks and their culture and politics you should go move there.
@@CalamityM An American here, the idea that a lot of our population doesn't work is actually incorrect and even though our unemployment rate is kinda shit, it doesn't mean that people aren't working in some form or another. The fact that employers aren't required to give paid time for workers to vote is a massive issue in voter turnout. Also as an American, if you're so wrapped up in telling people that us "yanks" aren't working, you should maybe reflect on yourself and your prejudices.

The plantation texts have been sent to kids in my area (Massachusetts), and a concerned parent made a post on NextDoor about it. Most of the commenters were rightly horrified, but some were blaming the education system saying kids should know that cotton isn't picked by hand, it's picked by a machine, slavery was outlawed over a century ago, and it's the result of a failed education system that these kids are afraid of the texts. I, along with several others, tried to knock some sense into them. The point isn't that cotton is picked by machines or that slavery is outlawed. The point is these are texts meant to harass the recipient by using racial motives, and it's unfortunate that many of them happen to be kids.
@@NikkiBuddersRespectfully, I see your point but it’s a big reach. Modern slavery absolutely exists (& has a big market in the U.S.), and we can argue parallels between that and prison labour. To compare prison labour to the slave trade is incomprehensible. Prison labour is deserving of extensive scrutiny but it cannot compare to the atrocities of slavery.
@@sarahshogunwaprison labor is literally slavery according to the exception in the 13th amendment. That exception was used to imprison Black people for little to no reason for decades and is considered cruel and unusual by international standards. So it is most definitely relevant to the conversation. A person who goes to prison is already losing liberty and years of their lives as punishment…. But they are still human beings. We tend to forget that.
For the BlueSky from Twitter: I did this transition after the blocking feature got changed. After it did, I got 8 tweets from Elon Musk in a row, and realised I am very sick of Twitter. I absolutely believe Marni and was suspicious of the story yesterday because, in the leaked screenshots, you could see that the other items were things like "de-escalate tense situations" and "never go anywhere alone" - it seemed clear to me that whatever this list was, it was in response to some kind of threat. Phil didn't highlight this yesterday but I'm glad he's taking the time to give more context. Marni was put into a terrible position because of a lack of funds and conspiracy brained idiots and she is absolutely being used as a scapegoat for only trying to keep her coworkers alive while doing extremly important, but dangerous, work. It is so unnerving to see people talking about pulling us back in time. It feels like a bunch of people who were told some past was better, and don't realize that things would be worse for them too
I also wanna point out that so many artists are done with X. The algorithm on X is absolutely atrocious for sharing art, and the fact that we were automatically consenting to feeding the ai algorithm was the final straw for a lot of us.
I have seen posts responding to/criticizing the "your body, my choice" which had me wondering when that had become a thing the right was spewing. It is insane to me how little respect some people have for half of all humans.
> when that had become a thing the right was spewing The exactly wording of the phrase may be new (though I somehow suspect it'll be traced back to the 1970s when Roe was first won, or even the early 1900s when women's suffrage was being fought), but the broad sentiment has _always_ been a right wing ideology. Control and cruelty has been a consistent right-wing philosophy regardless of country, era, or political party (just because I know some dingleberry will try to assert today's center-right Democrats have the same ideology as the far-right 1800s roots the party started from, despite the obvious absurdity of that assertion).
@@liljay300000 Unfortunately I do know what I'm talking about. I just hope this shit is somehow curtailed before you (and everyone else) are forced to find out the hard way. He's literally already made multiple picks for women in key political positions. Even picked the first female Chief of Staff. Dont let the fermongering get to you too much.
Regarding BlueSky, I moved to that platform because of Twitter's AI policy and removing the ability for people to opt out of the AI Scraping. Thor from Pirate Software goes over it in a shorts(or was it a pants). either way, that's why I've ditched twitter and recommended BlueSky to my artist comrades, no one should have their art forcefully used to train AI with no opt out.
@SnaabbeamSneebers in a legal term yes, as you can't prove it otherwise in or out of court. Since all she did was say hi. And even then there wouldn't be any self defense justification unless he has video of her trying to break in, even then he has to prove how she's a threat and why he didn't call the police. It doesn't matter how you see this situation only what the law does.
I still have no empathy for those people who thought it was stolen in 2020. I feel the same about those people this time. It was stupid then and it's still stupid now.
I was upset about the results but I think the majority of the election interference was much different from the past 20 years. Musk's illegal vote buying scheme being the newest thing to happen.
I understand the need for some reason that we lost. I’ve seen people claim that “those who are sensitive are calm despite the result because you can sense something is coming”. No, you’re calm because, despite the result not being what we wanted, the stress of the election is over.
I'm calm because it's absolutely pointless to get my panties in a twist. Besides, this country has been through wild time before. The 1960's and 1970's were arguably worse as far as civil and economic strife. We'll live. Also, at the end of the day, an election is typically just a choice between two different flavors of sh!t.
As someone in the furry community, I can tell you with 100% confidence that Bluesky is here to stay. Blue sky has been so pleasant. I've been making genuine human connection online again for the first time since 2016. It's a generally positive place where people are sharing their art and talking about things they love again
People really need to accept that. The election was more people not exactly using their brain. So many people google searched "can I change my vote?" and "what's a tariff?" Can only hope people learn from this experience, but with history of how people vote. I think we're still screwed. Classic example would be Ted Cruz, who bailed on his district during a winter storm. Yet, there's still people voted for him. Which I can imagine most people do name recognition and not researching.
It's pretty clear that the Nick Fuentes guy is being over the top and trying to instigate women. The dude is acting like a middle schooler. That's why you've got young boys adopting that same phrase. It's obviously not okay but it's also pretty clear that it's not serious. If anything it's a cruel joke.
I didn’t agree with her talk on how FEMA is with Trump instead of thinking of how it would look bad to be bias by having a person of power who herself is bias against Trump. Everyone needs help no matter what they think politically.
I went over to Bluesky recently and it really does feel like a classic social media experience. Almost like Facebook back when it was college students only. I think the distinction, at least for now, is that this is exclusively people that chose the platform and not some kind of default destination for shouting your opinions into the world.
I have a friend that’s a National Guard. He said that they would not go down certain streets because people shot at them when they came to help them after the hurricane I’m not surprised that internally people would say this is “Trump supporters” and not need to elaborate on why
People tend to be more fiscally on one side and socially on another. Federal laws tend to impact everyone while local will only have impacts locally. Depending which movements you are interested and on what scale people vote for different things.... is it that hard to believe? Edit: additionally, local officials may be different than federal in terms of their opinions and campaigns. If you're only voting on a party basis instead of doing sufficient research on local and federal problems.... well, that's absolutely insane.
It goes to show you the misinformation campaign and how successful it was. People see AOC and trump as the rebels within government people see her as looking out for them. And they bought trumps message that he’s doing the same. I really think it’s cognitive dissonance in action. Also most people know very little about politics so they are very easy to manipulate. Trump has a message that’s easy to digest it’s simple. It’s bigoted but it’s simple. Dems aren’t doing well with that their messaging is messy and almost non existent. It’s a big reason why Kamala lost
There were plenty of democrats in swing states who were campaigning by talking about how they worked with Trump and were tough on the border and basically Republicans because otherwise they stood no shot. I can see folks voting for both.

Slavery is also only outlawed if you're not in prison. It's disturbing that they're trying to write this off as "kids are scared, blame school"
This certainly never happened, but if it did, those stupid kids should know better. Oh wait, all their teachers are probably liberal women.

To compare prison labour to the slave trade is incomprehensible. Prison labour is deserving of extensive scrutiny but it cannot compare to the atrocities of slavery.
@@sarahshogunwaprison labor is literally slavery according to the exception in the 13th amendment. I don't get why nobody asks "how was an individual able to identify and send personalized texts to ethnic groups across America?" like who is collecting the data to identify numbers?

Lots of data like this has been sold online to other social media platforms, predictive policing companies (e.g. Palantir probably bought a lot for there stuff). But he said let the states decide few red states said yay soem said nay.
Omg stfu, some dudes being stupid doesn't mean much of anything. Trump himself is only a little more right wing than biden on the chart. He's literally already made multiple picks for women in key political positions. Even picked the first female Chief of Staff. Dont let the fermongering get to you too much.
@Chief-Grief just wait until you're burying your own child, think you'll still feel the same way?
Regarding BlueSky, I moved to that platform because of Twitter's AI policy and removing the ability for people to opt out of the AI Scraping. Thor from Pirate Software goes over it in a shorts(or was it a pants). either way, that's why I've ditched twitter and recommended BlueSky to my artist comrades, no one should have their art forcefully used to train AI with no opt out.
So fluentes assaulted and battered a solicitor and stole their phone but didn't get arrested?
indeed ad the cops did squat as well
"solicitor" yeah okay bud.
God I LOATHE you people.
I agree. Information is so easy to find, to believe such obvious misinformation requires participation on the part of the consumer
I was upset about the results but I think the majority of the election interference was much different from the past 20 years. Musk's illegal vote buying scheme being the newest thing to happen.
The difference is that there aren’t politicians fanning the flames and repeating/adding to the insane claims this time.
Truth
those stupid 20 million mystery ballots
His body our choice, won’t ever feel bad about trash getting doxxed
So its ok for me to dox you then?
Better block me cause im working on it rn
This girl is down for sharia law.
God what a shit take.
If you can't beat them join them, huh? Sounds real mature.
Freaking LOVE Bluesky I’ve been on there for about a year love it there. There’s no algorithm you just get what you want ❤
I'm stressed more now than I was before the election..
Nah, that's privilege fam. The less you have the more stress rn.
As someone in the furry community, I can tell you with 100% confidence that Bluesky is here to stay. It was used initially for artists to jump once Elon took over twitter and completely ran it into the ground, it used to be invite only with the bluesky codes which is probably the user count is as low as it is. It is an irreplaceable safe haven for creators and I've been seeing more and more big names in the community flat out jumping ship to bluesky recently
Damn Fuentes so scared of women he pepper sprays them on site. Probably the first time a woman was that close to his bedroom and he panicked.
Super late I know but I am done living in the dumbest of times.
This harassment towards women is genuinely terrifying. I know they win if I let them scare me into submission, but fuck…
i just wanna clarify that 44% of women voted for trump, so a lot of women are part of the "your body my choice" it's not really a male only thing
Understand this guy is intentionally saying messed up stuff to scare women and for attention. It's funny to him and your fear is exactly what he wants. Don't give it to him. Being scared means he wins.
Nick does this all the time to ragebait the left and you guys take it every time. It's honestly hilarious you people think he's serious.
@FutureMartian97 even if it was sarcasm or satire or whatever the hell you'll claim, the second other people start using it with actual intent, it is real.
@@FutureMartian97 if I only say this one thing on my public show that goes out to the most people, you're saying you shouldn't take it seriously? You sound like an idiot
Many people during the hours of voting googling "who is kamala harris" and "did joe biden step out of the election" and other forms of those same 2
@ I know. It's really, really depressing.
Intellectual laziness, lack of critical thinking and media illiteracy. But hey, what's on Netflix tonight? Derp.
@ pretty much. It's kind of ridiculous there's politicians that are in office for decades. They have a controversy then people still vote for them.
I gotta say man you had me worried you wouldnt update the FEMA story. Faith restored.
So this lady got investigated and fired, and then she put out her own story, and that means what?
I totally believe fema would rather throw her under the bus
Sadly it was late, it was already reported of the death threats, militia coming to kill fema etc
I didn’t agree with her talk on how FEMA is with Trump instead of thinking of how it would look bad to be bias by having a person of power who herself is bias against Trump. Everyone needs help no matter what they think politically.
@@mavzer0 Did you look at her account of things at all? Or do you just want someone to hate on?
I went over to Bluesky recently and it really does feel like a classic social media experience. Almost like Facebook back when it was college students only. I think the distinction, at least for now, is that this is exclusively people that chose the platform and not some kind of default destination for shouting your opinions into the world.
I have a friend that’s a National Guard. He said that they would not go down certain streets because people shot at them when they came to help them after the hurricane I’m not surprised that internally people would say this is “Trump supporters” and not need to elaborate on why
Well done America, you're now Russia!
how
@mossypebbles use your common sense. Trump is turning your country into an oligarchy. Congrats! You're screwed!
The only thing that really throw me about this election is how the hell did so many ppl vote split ballet’s.
They’re called independents and they do it all the time, that and Kamala was a historically bad candidate
There were plenty of democrats in swing states who were campaigning by talking about how they worked with Trump and were tough on the border and basically Republicans because otherwise they stood no shot. I can see folks voting for both.
Split ballet's? Spandau Ballet.
