Update to the FEMA story: Washington has given her side of the story where she says she’s a patsy and FEMA is making her a scapegoat. According to the Washington Examiner “The language in the leaked screenshot was “shorthand,” according to Washington. She explained the full context: Washington let her supervisors “know specific streets we could not do because of hostile political encounters,” and according to communications obtained by the Washington Examiner, she was encouraged and supported in her decision to avoid certain streets “to keep the team safe.”” We’ll be talking about her side of things tomorrow as well since we don’t know when the other investigations will conclude and I always want you to hear from all sides.
It wouldn't surprise me if the trump sign thing was her idea, and her supervisor gave her the go ahead or something, with direction from higher up to avoid conflict triggering the whole situation. And now everyone is trying to get out of the way of the bus. I'd love to know more phil
I'm sorry, Phil did you not report a story just a few weeks ago about armed men roaming around towns looking for FEMA workers to shoot them? I agree this story is awful and should never have happened, let alone be part of semi-official instructions, but the idea that it was done to ensure the safety of the FEMA workers themselves so they don't get shot for doing their jobs doesn't seem that hard to imagine.
Per the Washington Examiner: 'She explained the full context: Washington let her supervisors “know specific streets we could not do because of hostile political encounters,” and according to communications obtained by the Washington Examiner, she was encouraged and supported in her decision to avoid certain streets “to keep the team safe.” Washington noted that the next bullet point on the leaked message spoke about de-escalation, which she said was necessary because “FEMA workers were having their lives threatened.” Several of these hostile encounters were documented in the media, but Washington is demanding FEMA “turn over incident reports” showing additional hostilities that resulted in her having to avoid certain streets. “The running trend of those encounters just so happened to [be at houses that] have Trump campaign signage,” Washington said. “The notation that was leaked had nothing to do with their political stance. It was with the objective of safety.” [Washington] said “I agree with the whistleblowers. They are telling you the truth,” but that the real issue is that FEMA employees are not given the resources and protection they need to be able to provide help to every household.' "She said they do not have a police patrol or FEMA security team that follows the crews in Florida. “What we have is ourselves to survive,” Washington said that FEMA told her not to speak with the media, and that the government agency would “take care of it.” Instead, she said they “ghosted her” and “used my silence and allegiance to subject me to more scrutiny and to use me as a scapegoat for what’s going on.”'
I was looking for a comment like this, I remembered it being a thing he mentioned before but because he didn't bring it up now I thought I might have misremembered

Weren't Trump supporters threatening FEMA workers in NC though. The people have also eroded first responders trust. Not saying what she did was OK but not taking in the context of the last hurricane is kind of crazy.
Yeah when I first heard it I assumed it was because of that and it was just worded poorly (or maliciously) by the daily wire. If it isn’t that then obviously it’s awful and no one should be denied aid.
What the FEMA official did was wrong but puting out her face and full name ESPECIALLY since she's so against Trump. Feels to me that now she's going to get ALOT of hate and might be in danger.
It had nothing to do with Trump, and everything to do with Trump supporters threatening and even shooting at FEMA workers. It wasn't "I hate Trump so don't give Trump supporters any aid", it was "Trump supporters are riled up and ready to kill you, so try to avoid them for now." But the people who authorized the warning in the first place got pushback so they threw her under the bus to avoid having to deal with any form of repercussions.

Hey Philip, noticed you failed to mention that the Israeli fans were singing, "There are no schools in Gaza because there are no children left in Gaza."
Thank you for mentioning! Philip also failed to mention that Israeli fans were chanting and cheering during a moment of silence for the Spanish flood victims before the game.
kind of funny how this one very minor incident finally seems to be opening peoples eyes to the media's bias when it comes to this subject.... like all the bad shit in Gaza didn't cut it, no it's a bunch of hooligans rioting (which in itself isn't that remarkable) that show Israel isn't always up front and honest about reporting events as they actually happened....
He really felt like he both sides'd things pretty bad. I have friends who went to that protest on Sunday, the Sunday protest was explicitly because of the draconian ban on protests, the fact he didn't stress that felt shit to me. Also he didn't really talk about how this was all started with the Israeli fans beating a cab driver, vandalising property, and most horrifyingly that Mossad agents were also in Amsterdam to help with security, so there's an above zero chance some of the violence started by the Israeli fans was actually done by Israeli Intelligence. It's partly a consequence of the way almost all of the media coverage focuses on the antisemitism, which was barely if at all a factor.
You forgot to include the video of the Macabbi Tel Aviv FC fans breaking the minutes silence that Ajax held for the deaths of hundreds of Spanish people by continuing their “D*eath to the Arabs” chants. They were in someone else’s back yard INSIDE the stadium and continued their revolting chants. This was more of a case of Ajax Firms dealing with unruly guests, as is nature at the majority of football games.
It seems like the media has been having a hard time including every part of this story - I have seen a few publications internationally that leave out large catalysts to why it happened. Neither side is justified, but I understand why it happened. Keep pushing and eventually, people will break, especially when tensions are already so high.
@@nicky8904Israelis were in the wrong, they started acting violently towards Palestinians the day before the video that’s going around. You should be ashamed in yourself.
I am disappointed in Phil. The coverage of the Israelis in Amsterdam completely omits that during a moment of silence for those in Valencia, Spain, the Israelis were cheering and chanting.

Im portuguese but was in the Netherlands this weekend Before the soccer game there was a moment of silence for the victims of the floods is Valencia and the Israeli fans booed loudly. (Because Spain refused to give more funding to Israel.)
Please try to have a tiny bit of human decency. There were Israeli families there, just random fans that had nothing to do with a small group of disrespectful, racist jerks. The conversations planning the attacks were timestamped before the game even happened, so please stop trying to make justifications for the literal Jew hunt that took place.
Absolutely has nothing to do with funding, stop spreading propaganda The spanish government was siding with the same people who started the oct 7 massacre, it's a shame the israelis didnt do the moment of silence because the spanish people also despise the spanish government for their lack of response which lead to the situation being as severe as it was. eitherway none of that justified your propalpantine mob attacking them.
He literally didn’t he mentioned them attacking the taxi drivers and stuff. It’s a dense story and both sides are at fault in that instance. Sports aren’t about politics.
To the avoiding homes with Trump signs, ""No free handouts". Isn't that what they voted for? Isn't that what they wanted? Sure, it's messed up, but they just got a taste of what they believe in.
Reminder that israeli literally booed a moment of silence for Spanish victims who died in a flood in Spain during the soccer game. Make you question why they would be beat hmm... Do they not realized they are in the EU and not back in Israel?

Sad that this one action reflects entirely now on all democrats and fema workers. I understand her anger and frustration but it’s not the right thing to do.
Any chance the idea stemmed from the peiple threatening FEMA employees? Granted no explanation is pretty bad, but I also dont want them to go somewhere where they'll risk getting a gun pulled on them.
As much as I hate this phrase, “to play devil’s advocate” regarding the FEMA story. On the surface it sounds horrible to skip potential victims, but we can’t forget the dangerous rhetoric being spewed by MAGA supporters, targeting and threatening the lives and safety of FEMA workers. Look at the order given in NC where people were literally hunting FEMA agents. I’d probably want to tread lightly around them too, especially in Florida that has a “shoot first, ask questions later” mindset
Hey if you voted for trump you are clearly against government hand outs. So you can't accept help from fema because it's paid for by the taxes that they don't want to pay. So don't worry they didn't want the resources in the 1st place.
Okay so I guess I'm not the only one that was thinking about that. I was very confused as to why Phil didn't mention the whole thing he already covered where there were people hunting these people who were there to assist them.
That's my thought lol - they were sending out actual hunting parties with guns to get FEMA agents for "causing the hurricane". Why is it not okay to protect your people from that?
So I looked into this, and only rumors of a group were found. No actual evidence of an armed caravan or vehicles hunting FEMA workers. No police reports or anything. So I guess a game of telephone happened

I'm sorry, did you say Miller plans to restrict LEGAL immigration?! Am I reading that right?! Like bro, half the problem with illegal immigration is that the current process of immigration turn citizen is already restrictive. This coming from a son of both parents being legal immigrants turn citizen and remembering helping my mom study for the test to become a citizen while I was in middle school. They were in the country since before I was born (again, all legal). Its long and difficult. So making it more restrictive is practically saying "let's be like Japan and not make it possible for anyone to become a citizen".
@@zwenkwiel816you’re right. It actually does lead to more illegal immigrants. In 1996, IIRIRA was signed into law which made a lot of people (legal immigrants included) eligible for deportation. It also made people unable to return to the US for a certain amount of years.. this lead to more immigrants coming to the US illegally.
You are absolutely right it shouldn’t be so hard to get a green card to come to the USA and become a citizen. President even said that need to change as it would cut back the illegals. But the current administration opened up the flood gates and let any and everybody in and those people should be sent back home and be put on the bottom of the list to ever get entry back into the country. Do it legally or stay in your own country.
Nothing about attacking the Israeli fans was antisemetic, they use that as like a shield and no one bats an eye when they say and act horrifically towards Arabs, Palestinians and anyone else they deem 'against' them. We have video evidence of it, just boggles my mind that people defend them.
It's right in line with the movement that wants to equate criticism of Israel to the antisemitism of ww2 for decades now. It completely reduces the horrors of the holocaust and is in my opinion way more antisemitic to want to change a definition this way for geopolitical strategy over the graves of victims of a genocide.

It’s super common for traveling teams fans. Ajax themselves are guilty of it. It’s football hooliganism but suddenly with mainstream exposure and the anti semitic lens being highlighted. I have no doubt there was massive racism from both sides. Media just clueless and or biased.
Lets flip this for a second, let's pretend that a bunch of pro Palestine supporters were pulling down Israeli flags and burning them, chanting anti-israel chants. Then after the game, groups of Israelis coordinated attacks on anyone who looked Muslim, pulling women's headscarfs off, demanding people to tell them where they are from or whether they were Muslim and beating them senseless. If it does, but the situation doesn't sound like antisemitic attacks to you, then you should really check your bias and think harder on whether you are pushing a double standard..
Im ngl, the way phil framed this, while better than many others, still falls short of basic journalistic standards. I was honestly worried that you wouldn't even mention the behaviour of the Israeli fans, but I'm glad you did. Thank you! Also worth mentioning, there's reports of homes showing Palestinian flags were attacked and vandalized, in addition to them chanting "there's no school in Gaza, because there's no children in Gaza." Also, some Jewish Dutch organizations cancelled or postponed their remembrance ceremonies for Kristallnacht, not out of fear from their neighbours, but to avoid association with the Israeli fans.

Thank You Thank You Thank You for stating the causalities as "children and other non-combatants" rather than the usual "women and children" which excludes innocent male victims for some crazy reason. Thank you for making a real effort to be better.
Note that Gaza population is 45% "Children" (compared to approximately ~25% of global age), and with another 50% of the population being Women, literally only 28% of the country is non-women and non-children. Which means that the "70%" rate is very much normal casualty rate of the population. By stating that "70% is women and children", it make the reader thinks that the attacks are targetting specifically at those populus and not at all reflecting the population percentage that's living there. it is very much akin to reporting "50% of casualty is women", which is just straight up useless information.
In regards to deportation: "How is that going to work" Come on, we all know how just nobody wants to say it. Trump is talking about the mass deportation of 20million people. That's nearly 6% of the population. Where do you hold that many people while they await "deportation"? Well, you concentrate them, in some kind of camp.

@Rationalizer-cp3ml way to victim blame."But this wouldnt have happened if..." You're literally justifying antisemitic violence. Innocent Jews were attacked because other Jews were behaving like assholes. That's antisemitism. Re: Netherlands - It's called the "fuck around and find out" rule. Crazy what happens when you act like an asshole and don't have an army to protect you.
Thats putting it mildly. As complex as the war in the Levant is, the one thing that should be simple to agree on is that civilian deaths are not a cause for celebration. But that's exactly what they did, while visiting another country no less. So not only is a country committing atrocities across pretty much all of its borders, it's citizens are going on a victory tour across the globe singing its praise and bullying anyone who supports their victims.
It's a shame that Phil didn't mention the Israeli fans cheering and setting off flares through a minutes silence for Valencia, and chanting something along the lines of "there are no children left in Gaza"

Im sorry, but didn't you report FEMA employees being attacked by folks falling for right wings lies? Why would we be surprised that a supervisor to protect her people by saying better safe than sorry?
Thanks for the update on the FEMA story. With news reports of FEMA people being shot at by victims that had been told FEMA wanted to take their ... stuff away, it's natural for supervisors to tell their people to be cautious when there are literal signs of the political leanings that perpetrated the lies leading to their endangerment. And this sort or reaction is exactly what they want. Fear of the thing gives the thing power.

Do we know what the reasoning for her saying to skip homes with Trump signs? Some might say it does not matter, but I say it does. For example, if she is just mad that Trump won, that is absolutely irrational. However, if she said that over concern for safety of FEMA workers because of the rhetoric that has was being spread against FEMA by Trump, that is more understandable.
I tend to think it's the safety thing myself - but it was still was not a good decision even if her motivation for making that decision was well intentioned and I understand why she'd have to face consequences for making it. Like if a police chief decided his department will no longer send officers to houses with signs that support the BLM movement because a few BLM protestors have made violent threats towards police I am sure we can all see why that'd be a huge problem. You can't collectively punish all Trump supporters or all BLM protestors because of what SOME of them did.

No offense, but I do not think that reasoning should still hold up, since in my eyes this is no different than being a police officer. Risk is a part of your job in serving the public. Every interaction a police officer has with the public , no matter how initially mundane, can turn violent. That does not mean I want police officers to shoot first and ask later. I do not want cops pointing their guns at me at the beginning of every traffic stop. Would they be safer? Technically, yes, but this at the expense of the public they serve. You became a police officer, risk is a part of your job, and you cannot simply eliminate risk by being the bigger threat or by refusing to do core aspects of your job. Your life has to be risked in order for the job to be done. That's just what it is. FEMA workers I imagine do have to deal with unjust actions towards them, but it is still their job to help the public, potentially at great risk to themselves. Is this risk always just or inevitable? No, certainly not. It is still their duty to help everyone.
@PeripheralVisionary. They're not police officers, though. And you can sit there and play armchair expert all day long, but if there's armed militias out looking for you, I bet you'd change your tune...
When the FEMA story started, I thought the reason for skipping homes was going to be because FEMA workers were being attacked which I did hear something about. ETA: I'm not saying that's an excuse to just skip all Trump houses.

2:40 I’m sorry, but plastering this woman’s face on your show as if she’s a perpetrator or criminal of some kind is nothing short of reprehensible. I’m sorry, but I don’t think you’ve been paying attention. if a person of color walks up to a home that is openly advertising Trump paraphernalia, that is an openly hostile home that is making their racism and political views well known to all of their neighbors and anyone driving by, what do you think would happen to that person? Especially if they were a government worker? We’ve seen outrageous confrontations in this country since the Trump era began. The hatred and the sexism and the overt racism is at levels we haven’t seen in a very, very long time. We have seen white men literally shoot and kill people who approach their doors in pro Trump homes. Are you insane????? This woman’s actions were 100% justified and she was doing nothing but protecting her workers in a very hostile environment. When there are guns everywhere and people that are openly hostile to other human beings, and the government, and government workers, you think it’s safe to send those workers door-to-door? Especially when they are marginalized people/people of color or people who have been stigmatized and demonized to death by the Trump administration???? I think you’ve lost your mind
I wonder if the fema situation was related to fema workers being put in danger by the right claiming that fema workers were dangerous or at fault for the hurricanes and attacking workers or refusing to talk to them.
We certainly don't want Elise Stefanik in the White House, nor in the House. She's as zealous as MTG and Lauren Boebert, but unlike those two, she's smart and knows how to twist words even better than they do. She's one to watch for as democracy turns fascist, she will certainly be in Trump's inner circle.
I agree that discrimination against people for their political beliefs is horrible. But I think it was a little dishonest to not include that trump supporters were threatening FEMA workers. That obviously doesn’t make her actions okay but it is important context.

So making it more restrictive is practically saying "let's be like Japan and not make it possible for anyone to become a citizen".
this might actually lead to more illegal immigrants then....
It was never about whether the immigrants were legal or not. All these people care about is that they aren't white Christians.
@@zwenkwiel816you’re right. It actually does lead to more illegal immigrants.

Something being covered by the Daily Wire has me suspicious
Per the Washington Examiner:
'She explained the full context: Washington let her supervisors “know specific streets we could not do because of hostile political encounters,” and according to communications obtained by the Washington Examiner, she was encouraged and supported in her decision to avoid certain streets “to keep the team safe.”
Washington noted that the next bullet point on the leaked message spoke about de-escalation, which she said was necessary because “FEMA workers were having their lives threatened.”
Several of these hostile encounters were documented in the media, but Washington is demanding FEMA “turn over incident reports” showing additional hostilities that resulted in her having to avoid certain streets.
“The running trend of those encounters just so happened to [be at houses that] have Trump campaign signage,” Washington said. “The notation that was leaked had nothing to do with their political stance. It was with the objective of safety.”
[Washington] said “I agree with the whistleblowers. They are telling you the truth,” but that the real issue is that FEMA employees are not given the resources and protection they need to be able to provide help to every household.'
"She said they do not have a police patrol or FEMA security team that follows the crews in Florida. “What we have is ourselves to survive,”
Washington said that FEMA told her not to speak with the media, and that the government agency would “take care of it.” Instead, she said they “ghosted her” and “used my silence and allegiance to subject me to more scrutiny and to use me as a scapegoat for what’s going on.”'

@@desiiray they threw her under the bus :(
No offense, but I do not think that reasoning should still hold up, since in my eyes this is no different than being a police officer.

As a New Yorker (downstate), I am deeply sorry that upstate is THAT red.
I agree that discrimination against people for their political beliefs is horrible. But I think it was a little dishonest to not include that trump supporters were threatening FEMA workers. That obviously doesn’t make her actions okay but it is important context.
It's all about context. And I feel like he left a bit out of his story.
Agreed. It made her seem like it was entirely political when she was also thinking about the safety of her workers.

Weren’t extreme republicans fighting government help not that long ago?
"Hah! Take that random family of five who just want their grocery prices to go down!"
