As Björk puts it, this is her “mushroom album”. For me, the wild drum beats over the more organic, whimsical sounds bring me visions of cute little mushrooms having some sort of a fungal rave. It’s cozy and crazy. Fungal City & Fossora are my favorite tracks 🍄. One thing I love about Björk is she’ll always bring such variety of conversation surrounding her works!
The last track is one of her best tracks ever, even more knowing she sings it with her daughter. The full album is def a grower, you should check out Medulla, the follow up to Vespertine, it’s when she started to be more complex and experimental, that album is made without instruments, just vocals,
As a Björk fan, I agree this album had potential to go even further. The drum sounds you hear being added must be related to her saying the album is about "digging the soil". Trolla Gabba for me is very much gnomes sounds while working underground on a mine or something like that. Or maybe mandrake sounds too.
She did a jazz album called gling glo. Its amazing. And also she stared in the musical dancer in the dark. All music was hers. And that was the saddest but amazing movie.
You should do Arca Kick series. She produced for Björk and she is a very talented producer. She even worked with Kanye and other big artists. Her work is incredible
Watched all of your Björk reactions and I'm glad you're sharing your experience firsthand! You got more albums to come, so you're still for in a ride. You should check Vulnicura and Utopia to get some context on this album. For example, Allow was meant to be in Utopia but somehow ended up in this particular album. You'll better understand when you're listening to it. With Vulnicura and Utopia, Fossora finishes the unofficial trilogy of Björk's recent life events. Either way I'm happy and can't wait to see you exploring Medúlla, Volta, Biophilia, Vulnicura and Utopia (hopefully in order, haha)!
Vulnicura will be your go-to Bjork album as a string lover, and since you were a Sorrowful Soil fan, definitely go to Medulla for an all out acapella album! 👏🏽👏🏽
this is one of my top 5 bjork albums, the beats are my favorite part- I was taken aback when you werent enjoying them! guess gabber isnt for you then except fossora lol
Thank you for reacting to this. Very interestingz. I agree with most of your points. I find the last track very moving. I cried watching you reacting to it (I need to get a life!) please please react to her other albums that you haven’t done yet - also - the Kate bush albums you haven’t done yet !!!!! Never For Ever is a masterpiece
Hey Dave, really enjoy your reactions. A little late to this, but agree mostly with you on this one. It's not my favorite Bjork album. Please consider reacting to Madonna's Ray of Light (or American Life, but think you should start with the ROL). Also curious if you're familiar with the band Belly from the 90s. Love their album Star and think you might enjoy it!
Should've reacted to medulla and vulnicura first These are her most critically acclaimed albums in her post (HA.😐) first four albums era Medulla is definitely my fav top 3 bjork for me
not my favorite album (definitely not a bad album but with Björk my expectations are often very high. probably not always fair because she is always evolving in her sound and tries new things which I like).
Thats fun :) For me utopia is the worst album of humanity ^^ I hate every song on utopia :) every music are just a nightmare and all I want is to die :) Homogenic post Vespertine are so much better .
Utopia I first didn‘t like that much. And then bit by bit it got under my skin. It‘s an album you have to get closer to, being full of attention. It took me some time.
This is definitely my least favorite album of bjork probably tied with debut but even my least favorite album of bjork is better and full of more inspiration than most albums i hear
Fan of bjork I hate this album :( Only one good song , The last one , her mother house . Very good bjork Style song . But the album with crazy beats and the weird instrument . No no no. Homogenic post vespertine are the best album .
Yeah I really didn't like this album. It felt like Utopia again, but with even less structure and this time Arca wasn't there to make the percussion sound good, so it all just feels very disjointed.
this album wasn't designed to be understood on the first listens i feel like.
I mean most albums aren't to be fair

You must check Vulnicura out next, you'll love it
Vulnicura is good but I would say not her best at all ( overrated )
@@allenrpndefinitely not overrated that album is a masterpiece
Hey Franco lol

i love this album so much. yes i agree it can get messy but i promise the more you listen the more you welcome the mess 🫶🏽
thanks for the video : )
bjorks' utopia, vulnicura and medulla are albums that id recommend for the next times
What it doesn’t click sonically here … it will be the sound of bunch of tracks in the near future , she is so advanced sonically and musically.
She did a jazz album called gling glo. Its amazing. And also she stared in the musical dancer in the dark. All music was hers. And that was the saddest but amazing movie.
yasss fossora!! in my top 3 bjork records
You would LOVEEED Medulla
what you call "messy" is her being pure genius Lol have a few more listens
utopia and vulnicura are her best albums period

This album is great, visionary even. Many were turned off by the meaty, darker feel of this album, but promise it gets better with more listens.
this is one of my top 5 bjork albums, the beats are my favorite part- I was taken aback when you werent enjoying them! guess gabber isnt for you then except fossora lol
Fungal City and Ovule are my favorite
PLEASE REACT TO VOLTA❤️you are my favorite music reviewer and Björk is my favorite artist

Great review Dave ! Love your videos. Thank you for pointing exactly what I liked about mycelia, freefall and the beginning of victimhood
please check out album 'CLPPNG' - Clipping.

u should definitely react to arca!!!
React to turn on the bright lights by interpol is amazing
She kind of reminds me of AURORA. Not as madik but kind of the same.
utopia and fossora are the only björk albums i did not enjoy at all. They sound so random and all over the place.
PLEASE react to Utopia! Its my absolute favorite album of hers. The production is NEXT Level
Thats fun :)

I hate this album :(
Only one good song ,
The last one , her mother house . Very good bjork Style song .
But the album with crazy beats and the weird instrument . No no no.
Homogenic post vespertine are the best album .
Post is mid, Biophilia deserves the third spot instead. I would even put Debut slightly above Post.
