What I miss from the 70s and 80s is the grittiness. It felt real back then. It was not a cookie cutter model of what should be an ideal community. It was the leftovers of the immigrant experience of the 1900's translated through time with its own particular flavor and feeling. I was just a kid but I remember the feeling so different from today's world.
I am 14 and I am obsessed with everything 70's , 60's , 50's, bish I am obsessed with the past 😍😍😍 so this is kind of full filling my obsession ( I really need a Time machine real quick so I can go back to the past and full fill my obsession for good).
My friend It's just that you could connect with people in a more meaningful and sincere way....not so shallow and distant like now...you can thank tech And don't get me wrong tech has its awesomeness but......people are now way too obsessed Music..just listen to all that great music from then
that's because your generation is utterly bankrupt in every conceivable direction. there is nothing to hold on to in the present and no discernable future on the horizon. the only view you have is directly to the rear.
I was in NYC during the summer of 1977. Me and my family stayed with our relatives. I was seven y.o. then. First time I went to America. Had an unforgettable time. Great moments and scary ones too. Still remember the grip of fear Son of Sam had over the city and the moment everything suddenly went pitchblack during The Blackout.
I also lived it as a 16 year old high school stoned working a summer job at my grandfather's company on wall street Needless to say it was all a big party for me!! But definitely a crazy summer
It was the hottest summer that I can remember. I had loads of fun. I was out of school on vacation, I went to DC in June, I went to Panama, & we heard about the Blackout back home, we toured the city with friends of the family, the Son of Sam got caught, both Elvis & Groucho passed away. I was 8 at the time.
@@jamesmack3314 yeah, higher drug and crime rates. Poorer technology. Homophobia throughout the souls of everyone. Race riots, legal sexual harrassment within marriages mostly from men to women, less advanced medical options. Sounds like a blast right!!?
Well, sure that existed and still does but if you were a teenager then and living a good life,it was a hell of a lot of fun...not like today where you have a bunch of zombies walking around staring into phones and having the social skills of a rock.
@@jamesmack3314 That's a total generalization of the younger generation that's not even true. People still 100 percent interact with each other. And it's honestly not even a generation thing, it's a technology thing. People back then would have been the same way and even my 95 year old grandfather is glued to his phone using Facebook at pretty much all times. The younger members of the family usually have to tell him to get off of his phone at family events like he's a teenager 😂

If im right Madonna arrived here in July 77 .. She later says 1979 but I think thats her getting a bit rusty she was meant to be 17 so its possible she arived in 1976 in the July and turned 18 in the August. However when Who's That Girl came out she stood outside Times Square and said q10 summers ago I arrived here with $35 and asked the taxi driver to drop me off in the middle of everything.. So he took her to Times Square and she said she was completly awestruck. I can totally understand that! I felt like that when i I visited London at 15.
1977 NYC was a SPECIAL place and time. No other year had so much going on and changing weekly. The people had so much freedom back then. Sure double park, sure have a smoke, you';re 18 sure you can have a drink (It was legal back then). Wasn't so good if you worked for CON ED lol. I ran out of candles.

Healthy human behavior is being bred and conditioned out of us

The look of that guy at 5 minutes 57 seconds says it all!
It's hard to be a saint in the city.
My favourite band the ramones were from here 👍😁
Graffiti looks so much better now than it did then. It's def graphic design now.
Nice clips, Trains look great...If you like this, and you haven't seen the Doc Rubble Kings it might be worth a watch. Its about the same time frame.
A scary time the power went out and a serial killer was on the loose
It would be tense to take the subway at night.
I would have to tell the gangs peacefully to leave me alone.
I was there,16 years old,crazy summer..heat,blackouts,looting,Sam..and the Yankees won!!!

That Freight Train Barge @ 1:50 is still in operation.
Joey Diaz was probably somewhere in this video.
It's very nice to time travel for once
Despite the rules in nature
Something is really wrong with the frame rate.
😍🌹
2:05 dude looks like Al Pacino's Serpico.
The summer the Bronx zoo came to Yankee stadium
3:12 that’s rare today
3:46 time traveler lady with mask on protecting herself from covid19
To the left walking out of train
Before gentrification
No sloppy big belly fat people like today.
Yep
Looks like a whole lotta jive turkeys if u ask me
Egg creams and bagels. You had to be tough to make it through the dirty old seventy's NYC.
Where's the audio? No sound.
Taxi Driver NYC
One of the best movies ever
Everybody in this video is dead
No sound to the clip how dumb is that.
Well, cars and people looked better. More graffiti and smaller crowds. Otherwise it looks pretty much the same.
hight crime, dirty and bankrupt
NYC SMELLED LIKE A URINAL
It still does and rotten milk!
Now it's urine, feces, and weed.
No way in Hell I would live there.
But even today some people love it.
Is that why you always had a hard-on?
Filthy City NYC
