I just want to say that BL series are just like other series and it's not just for homosexual and straight girls it's for everyone such as straight guys or lesbians etc.... Everyone can watch this genre cause it's fun

You're right but still the target audience is straight girls and young gay boys. Other people can enjoy it but it's less likely since it's created to fit a certain demographic.
The same way High teen romance dramas are targeted toward teenage girls. Anyone can watch them but will eventually cringe too much.
@@sarahelvetral3710 There are a variety of BL series right now. The category implies only the romance between two men being a main part of the plot, it has nothing to do with the series genre. More and more variety is being available in BL category.
I don't know what Heejae meant when she said BL and gay are different because BL is fantasy but one of the big differences is that BL is usually set in a world where people are not ostracized or killed for being in a same-gender relationship. It's not always 100% accepted throughout the whole series or by every character but BL ends with the main couple happily being in a relationship.

I don't think she had that much time to give a thorough explanation but if we look at some of the popular writers in the BL genre such as Chai Ji Dan, then I have to say 'fantasy' is a good word to use for a summary of what it is since in real life, some of the things authors say in their stories are completely fictitious or old wives tales. But that is going back some time now. These days BL is blurring the lines of LGBTQ+ and BL stories and there are more hybrids emerging. We actually get characters who admit they are gay and they even use the word 'gay' in the shows now when before you wouldn't hear these terms. They are also getting more respectful of trans people and the stereotypes of LGBTQQ+ people in BL dramas are now becoming a thing of the past, even if slowly.
she meant that bl is targeted toward women is not often an actual representation of gay relationships and realities, bl tends to have a fetishising element to them although recently that has changed a bit. I loved that she said that because I hate when people call real gay people/couples bl as if they're just characters in some manga they're reading or show they're watching.

BL was started by women in JAPAN in the beginning of 70s....it was fantasy in their heads to escape the realities of the world they faced at that time...and also what happened in BL story does not reflect realities of Gay Dramas .......and 80% of BL WATCHERS are girls and women and most makers and writers of BL NOVELS are women compared to writers of Gay novels.....

Seungwoo's little first kiss story was so adorably romantic and his proclamation that he is going to give his bride an all out dramatic smoochy kiss on his wedding day was cute and funny.😆
Heejae and Suengwoo always have great chemistry as hosts. Loves the conversation centered around how BL couples interacted with each other and styles of kissing, the characters being gay is a non issue. Also showing BL scenes from around the world.
To clarify what Heejae said, BL is historically always been written by straight women for straight women as fantasy instead of targetting gay audiences (although they definitely can enjoy these shows). This is particularly obvious in the past, as the Thai BL film industry used to actively hire only straight men so straight women could enjoy the fantasy of the BL couple, but also the irl fantasy of the men themselves.
That being said, there is a lot of controversy in the Thai film industry over how actors are treated, their contracts and pay, the irl shipping and fan service, etc and only recently have Thai BL productions started using the shows as a platform to speak out about Thailand's laws against gay marriage and gay rights... and hired openly gay actors.
Also, I think it was intended a bit for homophobic ppl or ppl who are like "oh this video is about gay stuff, it doesn't relate to me". In reality, the couples in BL are just like any other couple... these shows are just romantic comedies between two men, making it a "BL" series.
I don’t think Heejae was making commentary on the issue with exploiting queer stories to fit a heterosexual female gaze though, I feel like this comment reinforced it. As much as I usually like her, this was a bit upsetting for me bc she said smth she truly believed which is that BL is straight fantasy and that’s a problem. BL is literally queer male relationships so whether ppl intended to make BL content bc straight girls are into gay shit that doesn’t change the fact that these are OUR stories as a queer community, about US so whoever enjoys them is fine but erasing our identity from it is not okay. I just don’t like that she added this as a disclaimer that it isn’t smth to be taken seriously and isn’t queer in nature. bc it is and we should view it that way.
@@dawnnn444 there's a big difference between Queer shows and the BL industry. Let's not act like the BL industry isn't problematic. BL shows are obviously targeted towards young straight girls and their fantasies while queer shows shows stories of gay couple without that filter and therefore can be enjoyed by anyone as it's targeted to a larger audience.

@@dawnnn444 I don't know where you live, but the industry of BL, especially in Thailand, is taken straight from web novels written by women for women... it is very different than shows in other countries that actively have gay rights.
This is one of the reasons that the majority of the source material they are based on have some SERIOUS issues with tropes, especially rape-fantasy tropes where rape is used as an "eye-opener" for someone realizing they're gay, etc.
In the classic TharneType series the gay lead molests the other lead on more than one occasion and even in KinnPorsche, the source material had Kinn raping Porsche. This was toned down into a scene in the show where he was drugged for his first gay sexual encounter... but the toxic tropes of BL are a serious issue that MANY followers of the genre are well aware of and the industry has only recently started addressing by changing those scene in the source material to something else for the shows.
Regardless, if this source material was made with LGTBQ+ audience as a target, this stuff would never fly. It is a product of the source material which is fantasy.

Heejae just has an awesome well rounded view of everything 🏳️🌈 And snaps to Seungwoo, it’s not easy watching something like this when you’re not used to it or somewhat conservative but I appreciate his honesty and enjoyed the fact he didn’t react in a toxic masculine way. I can see that you wrote this comment with losts of good intentions and I agree most parts of it but I feel the need to explain some aspects of this situation cuz there would be a misconseption if i didnt explain. First of all, no one should be hateful towards our community in the first place because its just like how we wont be mad or hateful when we see straight couple scenes, right? And also it can be easily said that no one should be getting thanks for not hating LGBTQI+ because its literally the same human beings that should have the same rights with straight people. All of this is just compeletly normal and there is no need to show any emotions about this.

🤔 I don't think BL dramas are any more "fantasy" than other dramas. And I get what Seungwoo is saying, so it's not a jab, but they ARE "normal" couples. Let's all get to a place where love is just love
It's not really what she meant in those terms though. Historically these stories really had no basis in reality of love between men because they are stories written by women for women. Most in the past just had two straight people who fell in love because love has no gender and no one ever admitted to being gay and no one ever had previous gay relationship and no one ever would be in a gay relationship with any other person other than who the writers paired them with. Gay stories would never operate in this way as they operate in reality - you are born who you are and would have had or will have other partners and you know you are gay from the get go such as in coming out stories etc. Historically, BL stories and writers just made stuff up that are inaccurate to real life and thus this is what she meant by 'fantasy'.
@@CuracaoChic the point I'M making is that many [if not most] romantic kdramas are JUST AS inaccurate and unrealistic. Full of cheesy lines and tropes we've grown to love. Idk her intentions, but I took her stressing that it's fantasy as a way to make ppl more comfortable with seeing gay relationships portrayed in dramas. And my hope is to get to a place where we aren't "othering" those relationships. So if BL dramas are fantasy, so are all the other dramas [and I've nvr heard them described as such]. There really is no difference imo other than the 2 love interests both being men.
@@cyn1c4lpho3nix But that is not the point I was trying to make because yes, in story telling there is 'fantasy' and you have the tropes and stories tend to follow a formula whether it is BL, Gay or straight they are all "fantasy" but gay stories and yaoi (historically) are different in purpose and ways of telling the stories. I see your point that what she said was not clear in what she meant. I can only presume that whilst homosexuality is still not widely accepted in Korea like it is in parts of the west, their only point of reference to this genre is Yaoi as Yaoi has such a big following and presence in Asia, but Yaoi can be quite harmful to people's perceptions of LGBTQ+ situations because of how it has (historically and inaccurately) portrayed gay relationships and thus this part is far more fantastical than Gay genre stories that tend to have more realism attributed to what it is like to be in the community.

The more something is normalized the less taboo it becomes, so I'm glad that they included BL dialogue in with some of the clips rather than just the kiss because it allowed Seungwoo to make the connection that even though these are gay character couples that they still sound and act just like straight character couples...people are people, regardless of race, creed, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age...the sooner we all start loving and accepting each other despite our differences the better the world will be💖✨🏳️🌈⚧️🏳️⚧️🌟❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🌍🌎🌏

I'm a teenager boy from India 🇮🇳 and I really agree with Heejae like real gays and bl series are different ,series like frictional world , as in 2020 pandemic I've started to till now im a big fan of c drama and k dramas I unexpectedly found this bl drama's my first bl drama was unexpectedly "Addicted" a Chinese drama first I don't know the genre because I watched c dramas on UA-cam so I dont know what genre meaning is so i thought it was some high school stuff some life as u refer title addicted i thought it's about drugs some illegal stuff and I am pretty familiar with two main leads as I've seen them in c dramas then after my sister recommend me a drama Thai drama called" Together" I really like the drama and i doubt my self is it normal or I really boys love drama's next during drama I went in comments section the majority are girls no doubt but some of they say they share/ recommend this drama to their straight friends and they like it too then I literally understand that it's normal for straight guys to watch them.
