- Demo & how-to on the title track from James McMurtry's 2002 release Saint Mary of the Woods. This one is a bit long, but the song has a bunch of parts, it's the most intricate of James's songs I've yet demoed. As always, I hope this helps any other players to get into his work.

Full performance from December 2022 livestream: • Stream #27: Sunday McS...
Thanks for watching!
Dave, can't thank you enough for this! Been playing for most of my life and have been a fan of Jame's for a very long time. Working out his tunings and playing style has confounded me greatly. I'm a very kinetic learner so having you demonstrate is perfect. Of course I overthink and tell myself what I'm hearing is way more complicated than it actually is. Aloha and thanks again from O'ahu!!
Hi Toby, thank you so much for your very kind words! They really mean a lot to me. Thank you also for subscribing to the channel. I do livestreams every 2-3 weeks, and I hope you will join in! There are typically 12-15 folks who show up on the day, who are quite fun "McPeeps" to hang with. Next one will be a week from Sunday, on 24 March. I'm delighted you found this vid useful, and I love requests! Please feel free to ask for any breakdowns you like, and I'll do my best to work them out. Thanks again! 🙂
Also, my brother lives in Kailua, moved there from our family home base of L.A. in about 1970. We were just over there last October for his daughter's wedding.
@@DaveDraperGuitarI'll check out the live streams for sure. I'm a Long Beach boy, born and raised. Been living in Manoa on O'ahu for the past four years. First saw James live at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, about 2006. It was him, Ronnie and Darren Hess. The set at that time was pretty much the Live in Aught-Three record. More live shows than I can count after that. The last time was pre covid at The Troubadour. Hell of a show, Dave Alvin sat it. Anyway, thanks again, I'll be watching!
@@tobysettle8595 I am also from the LA area, for my first 21 years anyway. Happened to hear of James right when his first album came out, and have been a fervent fan ever since. BTW my streams go on at 1pm eastern time, which is a very early 7am your time. Might be a little early to get up on a Sunday morning! But you will be most welcome!
