    Just want to say, Chris Perkins did time travel very effectively in Dice Camera Action when they went back in time to a try and prevent Strahd's fall and save Ireena. The result was a near TPK.

    To add to what makes this world unique, in my humble opinion, is how it really feels like a post-apocalyptic setting. Now, obviously Dark Sun did it first, but Exandria just feels rife with relics from the mythical "Age of Arcanum" and learned people in the world always talk about it in the show with a mix of wistfulness, terror and envy. Kind of reminds me of Numenera in that regard.

    • @pranakhan
      @pranakhan 5 років тому

      I see the comparison but, at least in regards to how I have been trying to run Wildemount so far, I described it loosely to my players as an "early-stage apocalyptic" setting. I wanted to establish player agency in the acceleration or dissolution of those meta- narrative moments. Being low level, I haven't introduced many AoA elements yet. I'm hoping to use the relics and lore from the early period to remind the players of the forces drawing on the destiny of the world in mid-tier play.

      Pretty much every D&D setting, by its very nature, has to have an age of splendor where people could (more easily) create potent magical items. Then some kind of downfall occurred that ended that golden age. Creating those potent magical items is much harder now than it was in the past. The items from that age are now prized because they are, in many cases, irreplaceable.
      The age the characters now live in is but a shadow of a brighter, more magical era.
      I think the difference between newer settings (Mercers setting and Eberron) compared to older settings (Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms) is that there is way more emphasis placed upon those lost golden ages as a means of exploring why the world is littered with dungeons, ruins and magical items. For Eberron, you have multiple golden ages that have come and gone (fiends, dragons, orcs, giants, goblinoids and (to a lesser extent) humans and elves.

    • @alexmcclay8152
      @alexmcclay8152 5 років тому +1

      krim7 I kinda disagree here, I mostly focus on the Forgotten Realms and there is a ton of reason why magic items and dungeons are there, you have sources books like the Empires of Nethril, explaining that that time was the peek of magic in the realms, you can easily say that a ton of magic items are made by the Netherease. You have books like Ilefarn Anew by Eric L Boyd describing a lost civilization (i have only glimpsed at the book so my knowledge is limited), and you have the upcoming source book Crown of Earlann, a massive sourcebook looking at older civilizations (600pg draft!). That’s the main reason why i love the Realms, no other setting has that amount of detail, a ton of source books and over 300 novels

      @@MrSJPowell They put Eberron on that same sphere category, yet its planes and planar travel is completely different than regular DND, so I don't think that matters. The way the gods work wouldn't be the same if it was connected to the other planes.
