In this video I show you the different Return to Home modes and what they do.
GREAT TUTORIAL! I watched it three times! Smart RTH, Low Battery RTH and Failsafe RTH - very important! RTH Altitude - most important! I always check it before takeoff. Distance above and away from Home Point is also important to know.
This was super helpful as a new drone pilot. I didn't understand all the nuances of return to home, but I feel a lot more confident with it now.
First person who explained that colored bar. Thanks.
Awesome Tutorial.....you really made it clear on all the RTH scenarios! Look forward to more of your tutorials.
Thank you for that explanation. Reading it is hard to decipher at times but hearing and seeing it seems to stick a bit better for me!!
thank you, just got myself a mavick pro package, love the vids. Great tutorial.
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us newbee's how RTH works.
Very interesting. If your in P mode just flying around at sunset and you head home into the sun, is it possible the mavic will stop? You showed that very well in your video. I just want to confirm.
Thanks for sharing, I'm a first time Mavic Pro user, and videos like yours are really helpful!
I am impressed.
If our private drones do this, what can military drones capable of?
Great video.
Where is the best mail site to order a Mavic Pro?
great tutorial, I have had my Mavic just over a month now and due to the weather i still need to get all the test flights done, so i can have full control.
As Joe states there is a lot to understand. i have a p3 but this is a different bird all together thanks
Eric
Caution: Problem with auto return to home, you have to make sure there's no obstacles above it. It will automatically shoot straight up to the specified altitude when battery gets low, there is no top facing sensors. It could end up hitting such obstacles like trees.
Thanks for the Great Video!! I have a question: Do simply click on the RTH button on the remote at anytime for the drone to RTH? Also, how can cancel RTH while flying? Thanks again!! 😋👍
1st time on your page. love the way i can view your Go4 app screen. mavic is awaiting shipment so I'm watching as much info as i can. THANKS GREAT JOB
A really important point about RTH - is its very slow - about 10meters per second - you can double the speed by using the sticks while still in RTH mode.
Its important because you might not make it back sometime on a very low battery otherwise - eg. because of windy conditions.
Hey great tutorial. i didn't found the info I was watching it for though but maybe you can help? I crashed my Mavic in a tree after reciving a low bat signal followed by a return home which I've been trying to cancel. A lot of stuff appeared on my screen. I tryed to shot them down bit they kepet reappearing and i wasnt able to retake controle of my aircraft. I tryed to make it land but it stopped at about 30 feet from the ground and from there I couldn't controle it anymore . Then after about 60 second of total panic it strarted flying to the home point but it never got to the 50m I had programmed it. Being at about 30 feet high, you can imagine the rest. What should i have done to cancel the RTH and lend it where it was?
Symon Says TV Hit the pause button then take control.
What happens if I take my drone out on another day to another location and forget to set the home point, but however the drone automatically wants to return home for some reason, or i need to send it home. Will it try to make it's way back to the very last place I was flying, which could be several towns and many many miles away, or does it automatically log a new setting from when I switched the app, Drone and remote on. Also does it record and store this data to the SD card and that is accessed for the drone to act upon. Many thanks and well put together.
Nice job on making the video and the points that you pass along. Tks for doing it.
Thank you for subscribing!
Very clear and humble. Thanks!
Where did you get the pages you are reading from? The DJI manuals and info they give you are not that complete. Kind of like APPLE, they expect you to know all. If it is in "PDF" form please send a link. Thanks, Jay
I have the air for a week now , and was wondering why my drone doesn’t land at the exact spot where I take’d off.. i hope this video will help me ;-)
Tq for tutorial
Nice Tutorial very detailed. What screen recording app did u use or recommend?
Well done...thanks
This is a very good demo.
Great video....question? Is the RTH altitude I set measured from the elevation I take off from, or the ground underneath the aircraft of its current flight path?. Say if I set my RTH alt to 200ft. and fly up over a 100 ft. hill. I hit the RTH button, will it ascend or decend 100 ft. on it;s RTH path? Hope I said that right!!
Good evening, which app do you use to record the iphone screen?
Nice video , but I could not believe you did not explain the 2 return options icons !
Title was click bait but the video was so worth it. Thanks
I've been reading about an issue with that feature (return to home) the actual case: when you are on critical low battery but you aren't in the same place of your home point. some users say that the problem is about loosing control of manual landing, the drone itself immediately will try go to the home point but the battery clearly wont last to that trip, and the drone do not accept to make a manual landing or even don't let to the pilot cancel that feature, taking the drone to a crash because the automatic landing by itself is pretty slow . I was very concerned about that. planing to get my mavic the next mont, and yeah, it is a wrong practice as a good pilot, i mean, we never really want to put the drone under that critical conditions, in some cases the pilots only have 10 % of battery what translates into one minute of flying time. but in a really creepy video one user are trying to change the home point while flying with good battery level and the mavic immediately turns crazy and goes very far away of everything the rc or the home point.... thankfully for that pilot the situation don't finish up with a crash but man.... it was to scary.... it is a failure on the return to home feature?.. is a well known problem? dji solved that on the dji go 4 update.? do you know something about it? thanks for the video, it was pretty instructive but i have that cuestions.
how did you cancel the return to home
Thanks for the great video's
This is beneficial, but you've failed to explain just in case if you update home point location then what do you do to set it back to your current location and get it home safely.
Cleared up a couple questions for me.
Hi there sir! I already purchased my own Mavic Pro, but I just wanted to share my experience with my Mavic it happens that I've encountered this message "Rc remote control signal lost" I don't know why I have encountered this one? Before this happens I just try to push my mavic to its range in my hometown and it reached about 2000ft distance and 200ft height, then I decided to comeback facing forward to where my homepoint is, but when it reaches about 300ft distance and still 200ft height, this happens "RC remote control signal lost" I was freak out and thinking my mavic flies aways, I don't have eyes on my screen, so what I did I come out to my house and tries to see if I could see it line of sight, then gladly it was just hovering outside! so I did land it manually, I can still control it to my remote control but then again I cant see anything on my screen. Any ideas sir? what causes this one?
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing.
Are using a mock or is this recording sound threw the phone.
I was using a microphone.
Nice, thank you. I was wondering why in my tests it just went straight down wherever it was. now I know.
Must say that listening to imperial units when everything is in metric round numbers is a bit painful.
Great video, very detailed. Thanks.
awesome video. I'm def loving the mavic also sofar. only had it for about a week. I would love some feedback or ideas on my drone channel if you had the time. you got my subscription. thanks.
Good
The confusion on VLOS is whether it is OK to just see the airspace your drone is flying in so that you can see approaching manned aircraft OR do you have to be able to tell your drone’s orientation and relative distance from a manned aircraft when/if it approaches so that you can take effective evasive maneuvers. For example, for most, you can’t tell if your drone is at 2050 feet away and an approaching aircraft is at 2100 feet away ... AND at that distance, you can’t tell (without looking at your device) which way your drone is heading. SO ... how could you be effective in taking quick and immediate action to avoid a mid-air crash.
Holy mac! Where do you fly that you need 250 ft RTH? If you need to be that high, you must be flying in some major city with skyscrapers. Normally 100ft will clear just about anything. PS. NEVER use RTH unless you screwed up. Better planning is the answer, not RTH. Just IMHO.
Chet Meyerson It is all about the P's near me. Pine trees and high voltage power lines.
chasiu75 pines and high voltage power lines are probably not higher that 30 meters.
Valent Turkovic I usually fly at the same height so it makes not difference. Actually I am about to fly in Hong Kong where it won't be high enough. The setting is adjustable for a reason, it is not one size fits all.
My pine trees near our house is around 180 feet but I like to have some margin for error and wiggle room. Our high voltage transmission tower near my house is about the same at around 180 feet. There is a water tower also but I do not know the height of it yet. The RTH height is adjustable to allow for your LOCAL environment and personal preference. You can set it where ever you feel comfortable. It is your choice as the operator of the craft. Regardless of how tall things are around you it is up to you to decide how high you wish to set it. Perhaps later I will do a more exact survey but for now I will leave a margin for error as it is my personal choice to decide.
Which screen capture application are you running if you don't mind sharing and which mic ?
Very informative,thanks.
Great tutorial thanks for all the info.
My RTH has saved my *** more than a few times!
have you tried using wifi boost/ extender to increase the range using smart phone alone? i saw this is possible with bebop2..
very well done one more great video to help convince me to buy one
dji mavic is so cool~ go and get your mavic!click.dji.com/ACkjy54Qhw60C3amXgab?pm=link
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks man. Well done video.
I would imagine the slow decent is to be assured the bird won't get into vortex ring state. Don't drop it too fast straight down. You might do it many times but all it takes is once.
Gréât vidéo thanks
If you're a mile away or.... a long ways is it pretty accurate when returned?
BrenttheGreat Yes, not matter how far away I go the RTH point is always very close to where I took off from when it returns.
Great video! I enjoyed the detail. I'm still figuring this out with mine.
Need help. When I press return to home button, it says Return to Home cancelled. The RTH option does not show in the app.The drone is at a height of 15 min and say 10-20 m away horizontally. What could be wrong ?
Exlent tutorial.... well done
Does anything change if you press the RTH button on the controller or on the Mini I-pad?
thank u...much appreciated!
GREAT explanation!!!
Would you recommend this for a neophyte? I have just started flying a small, cheap drone which is very twitchy. Would this actually be easier to learn to fly since it has so many safeguards?
Bang Switch It is much easier!
Bang Switch is
very precise and informative.
What do you use to record your phone screen?
Awesome Video with a ton of helpful Info... Thanks man! Anyone else notice 2 of the exact same car though?? lol Is the 3rd one the same car w/o sunroof?? Hmmmm
ToTheFloor4x4 Toyota didn't change the Camry much from the top view. But they are 5 years apart. One is my wife's car.
Home point also re-records when you arm the motors. Also setting a RTH altitude of 325' is a bad idea because if it is triggered close to a low battery situation, you won't get it back.
Aeroworks Productions The auto RTH is calculated based on altitude and distance. It takes those factors in consideration when it does the math. The RTH altitude will be different for everyone depending on their surrounding environment.
chasiu75 It should be set by the operator to clear the highest obstacle in their flight area. It set to maximum and it is not automatically set.
Aeroworks Productions That is what I mean by different for everyone. They will need to determine their local environment and set appropriately. I set my RTH to what I feel comfortable with in my area.
Aeroworks Productions When I say Auto RTH I am referring to the remaining battery power calculation.
Aeroworks Productions Hi, my mavic pro does not record my home point when i arm the motors. There is know update on the screen or even voice telling me the home point has been recorded. Do you have any idea? Do i have to turn on the MOBILE DATA & GPS of my phone so it will automatically save my home point?
When the sun trips the sensor it does stop the drone, I had it happen to me,”pretty scary”, what I did (after a little panic session) was to disable RTH and turn off sensors and fly back using the map.
Thanks for the tutorial. This will come in handy
Your welcome. Let me know if you have any questions.
I have been trying to fly mine indoors. because it has been below zero, since it arrived on Wednesday. A little frustrating, since a coffee shop my friend just opened. On the river near here, has a whole bunch of Bald eagles nesting right near it. Almost crawling out of my skin, waiting to record some footage.
disturbing a eagle nest is a felony!
Disturb or Disturbance - to agitate or bother a bald or golden eagle to a degree that causes, or is likely to cause, based on the best scientific information available, (1) injury to an eagle, (2) a decrease in its productivity, by substantially interfering with normal breeding, feeding, or sheltering behavior, or (3) nest abandonment, by substantially interfering with normal breeding, feeding, or sheltering behavior.
In addition to immediate impacts, this definition also covers impacts that result from human-caused alterations initiated around a previously used nest site during a time when eagles are not present, if, upon the eagle’s return, such alterations agitate or bother an eagle to a degree that injures an eagle or substantially interferes with normal breeding, feeding, or sheltering habits and causes, or is likely to cause, a loss of productivity or nest abandonment.
careful those eagle can be harmful to the small mavic, they can and some will nock it out of the air.
Thanks for the video. Does the auto land prevent return to home from working if the radio signal is lost?
Do you know the best way to land far away where signal might be lost? I find videos of crashes because it tried to return home after they had landed safely. I don't think they recommend changing the fail safe setting while flying but most of the time I would want return home on. Thanks for the help.
RCPerfectionist I misunderstood you. I never tried return to home after landing. That is something I should try.
Thank you four your video just a question my Mavic Pro Platinum when I fly the drone is shaking is any reason thks
Could be an imbalance with a prop that is damaged.
Chasiu75, I've a question regarding the "screen cam". What program do you use for recording the screen of your phone / tablet? I am using an iPhone 6 and - from time to time - an iPad to run the DJI Go App.
Curious about the answer too.
suncase.photo Mobizen
I use DU Recorder. Version 1.2.5 was just released. I need to check it again to make sure it works well.
Battl e Grounds
How do you return to home and hover? Can you set the hover altitude?
Chasiu75
I have an issue that I can not find an answer for. Maybe you would have an answer, or put on a clip to cover this..I was flying today with the controller only (no phone connected) and all was well. Then about 10 min in with the Mavic Pro in my area it started to act strange. Meaning it would not go forward. The controller read MAX RADIUS.. what does that mean? I had 50% Battery left. Is it possible you might cover this?
Something weird happenned today with my Dji Mavic, I calibrated first then as I was flying it, I flew it like 100 feet away from me and it said something about it being “compromised”, then it changed by itself from being on “GPS mode” to “Atti mode”. I had a very hard time landing it to my location because I panicked alot. Any suggestions??
How do you combine the screen displays of your IOS device connected to the DJI Mavic-rc with the footage from your Magic and the video cam on the ground?
I use Final Cut Pro X as video editing software. So maybe you can tell me and other interested people how to import the different video material to produce a UA-cam clip like this one.
Thanks in advance for your tips!
is this can be use or this method same to mavic 2 zoom ????
My Mavic Pro Platinum seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it will go straight up or down and my hand control won't stop it. What's going on???
thanks,was helpful
How did you calibrate compass
With rebar in your cement work
Where do you plug mic in then? What is mic you used? Thanks for quick response
oczkowski8 Plugged it into the headphone jack. Here is a link. amzn.to/2jXiF0i
Good one, appreciate good quality sound.
Very informative
What is the time to fully recharge a battery?
Good video but I had a difficult time seeing the points on the screen you were referring to before you moved on to another topic.
I try to keep my RTH altitude as low as possible in case I have a very low battery and seconds count.
That's cool, but what if your low limit, is lower than some tree or sheds or such, in it's RTH path ? You're right though, seconds matter
Marlon When he says as low as possible, he means above the trees. Hence, “as low as possible”.
I just got my mavic today
At 5:11 I don't "see how it says 17, 14, 11 minutes..." Where is that? Hidden by the picture of the manual? Please
Any way to turn off the rth? I fly under the tree canopy and a lot of the time it's less than 25 feet and if it tried trh it will hit the trees above it guaranteed. I had a close call when it lost signal and I was less than 20 feet away. luckily I was under a hole and it went straight up and cleared all the limbs.
nbookie You can set it on the app to just hover if signal is lost.
chasiu75 can you point out that setting please? thanks
I will have to look for you the next time I connect to the aircraft. I usually hunt around for the setting and don't have them memorized yet.
chasiu75 thanks man. I've looked around and read the manual again. still don't see it. 2 dji facebook groups seem to think we can't tell it to just hover unless making a mission.
Here you go. ua-cam.com/video/safBlr_Tirk/v-deo.html
My mavic pro is about 2 to 4 feet off it’s home point and ideas or pointers?
Enable precision landing, climb slowly to at least 10 metres, pause for a few seconds....
What's the little graph by the map?
That's weird because if my RTH is set on 250 feet and i'm at 300 feet.... it will drop to 250 feet and then return to home.
Hey
Just upgraded the firmware on my Mavic, everything on theDrone worked perfectly, but I cannot turn off the controller any ideas?
Jim Simmonds Press and release, then press and hold until beeps. Then let go.
Hey
Many thanks, You are a star. Strange how silly things sometimes stump you.I only got my preorder(September) yesterday must be one of the first in UK.
Thanks again for your help.Jim
Jim Simmonds Enjoy your drone! Don't forget to subscribe for more videos coming soon.
how do you record the flight data on the video?
love it I'm gonna by one
You failed to show how to activate the RTH on the controller. Vital info missing for us newbies.
The Mavic Pro has really good battery life.
Spontaneous Flooper Mavic Pro Platinum has better battery life.
How do record your audio so you can hear you speeking
oczkowski8 The screen capture app with external microphone.
Very nie video.
Nice Video ;) #droneforlife
someone ran into the house really quick when u were ate 325 ft
Way too much reading on this video. Try to summarize - I could read it myself and test it. Tutorials are generally for clarity, not just rehash.
Gee your neighborhood must be happy with u.....
