Good to see BMW nailed a car both for the electric and the combustion engine customers. I also liked to see that the ambient lighting bar is relatively discreet, at least comparing to Mercedes' Hyperscreen. Interesting that the two brands had diametrically opposed approaches to their luxury segment.

I did also talk about the S-Class. I talked more about the EQS because the i7 is the direct competitor and it is the clash of the luxury EVs and the differences are really huge
Nice review Thomas. I also appreciate your willingness to compare this new BMW 7-series with the S-class like I own and am interested in for my next vehicle. I am very partial to the Oxide Gray i7, and just don't like the BLACK imposed on all buyers of the ICE 7-series. I can get a 2023 740i for just over $100K, but must take the blackout treatment I don't like. To avoid it, I must spend $124K on the electric i7!!! Cannot understand BMW forcing a blackout treatment on all ICE 7 series buyers!
How did they miss the electronic camera rear view mirror because when the theatre mode is in use the driver cannot see anything in the rear view mirror 🤷🏻♂️
Trylly amazing car 👏, so glad this review got out. And something i got nostalgic about. I watched some old review of an Peugeot and every review started with Full HD, Full screen and Full length let's go😁 and i miss it can you say it in some next review xD
Great review Thomas. I have a 760e on order and your comments about ICE Engines and six cylinder in particular encourages me that I made the right choice. Appreciate your detail. And I have ordered 'Thomas Blue' (i.e. Tanzanite blue) with Amorone Interior.
I7 is a compromised ICE platform based. It's therefore very heavy, less efficient, smaller interior compared to Pure EV platform car of this size. It's drag coefficient is much worse than EQS Model S and Nio ET7. It's transmission tunnel running at the back has nothing inside, a reminder of compromise.
Good thing is in Switzerland we are told we will get the 760e delivered in April 2023, where as in Australia we have had a iX50 on order since November 2021 and still do not have a build date. (Except that we will get it in 2023 sometime).
I like it. Interior material and build quality seems impeccable and well above the A8 and S Class. I like the interior design. It's looks luxurious and special. The new S Class doesn't look very special or luxurious. The previous gen W222 interior was a hit and looked amazing even today it still does. Mercedes pioneered the side by side screens and now everyone has copied it even BMW. But now Mercedes has moved away from it and their interiors look worse now. They should've just refined it like everyone else has and make the bezels thinner and screens larger. Curve it maybe and make it freestanding.
Impeccable interior materials except the center console and arm rests on doors being cover in gloss black plastic trash. I agree that this beats the EQS easily. Seems Mercedes just wanted to push product. Doesn't stand up to the heritage of the S class.
Using wool in the interior reminds me to the old luxury cars from the 1980s/1990s. I like that more and more brands are experimanting with alternatives to leather.
Your comments on how great this car is has a lot of gravity. I currently own a 6GT from new for the last 4 years and will look into this in 4/5 years time when a facelift is due and for a changeover…just an amazing machine
Sorry but looking at this dual color paint I can’t help myself stop thinking of those old cars that at some point they were crashed and the bumper was replaced with another one, but different color
So can you use theater mode while driving? I haven't watched the whole review but the theater mode part did not discuss it. I haven't seen it in action while driving so far and the question is what happens with the rear view mirror?
I love that red color! I wouldn’t choose the two tone paint scheme. I like the exterior, especially the front. However, I think the C- pillar should’ve been more rakish like a fastback (i.e. Gran Coupe). I think that would’ve been a better match to the front end’s design.
Excellent, informative review. As always. I’m curious enough to HK yo BMW’s website. Strange, but the interior already looks dated with the long prop up screens, especially compared to the 2024 E Class. But NVH is important to me so I’m going to check this out further.
I LOVE it, everything about it I love that grill I love the two-tone, black and wine paint color, I love the separation of the lights. I literally love everything about the score of course I’m a huge fan of German engineering but I would take Audi or Mercedes before BMW may be until this car. Currently own an 2019 A8L. And I would probably take the electric over the petrol.
Best config for me would be tartufo merion with dark blue alcantara headliner and 2 tone black on top and either dark grey or the beige color on bottom m pack with glowing grille Bowers ofc and 760i
Epic review - excellent. I do like the two tone - especially silver & dark red. Has that old coachbuilt look and makes it seem to me more of a RR alternative. Still, given this is (just) the lwb - not that much room in the back.
Thomas, have any manufactures given you a figure on how much is saved from, for instance, migrating all seat functions to a screen just like it is in the back of the 7? And why not just make the window button in the rear a 2-step button to include the shade function? I really like the i7 and while the front isn't perfect it beats the front of the iX and 4 series. Trade in the M550 for an i7?
I wouldn’t do it yet, maybe wait a littlest until they fixed the first issues that usually come with an all new model. And then, why not a nice i7 matt paint with veganza seats combo
This car's headlights feel like the spiritual successor to the pop up headlights. Looks like they wished they could only use the top part for all lighting purposes, but the technology is not there yet. The lower lights are kind of hidden, blacked out, only there because they are needed, in a way just like pop up headlights. Also the stitching on the sensatec seats, both the black and light one, is not straight at all... are these prototype cars?
Great Review! Thomas, would you say it might be a good idea to wait 2-3 years so BMW can refine some of the tech and features- like the crushing door system?
Looks like a pick up truck front and back with the body of a sedan in between. If they decide to make a ute out of this, I think it would look stunning.
Thanks for the great review! One question though: I had the opportunity to drive the i7 and was simply amazed by how calmly it drove over bumps - you hardly feel them at all. So, I was wondering whether there is a noticeable difference with the petrol version since it doesn't have all that mass in the bottom. Also: did both vehicles you drove have the executive drive pro option? Since this option should make the drive even better! (Sorry if you said it in video and I missed it.) Thanks in advance! :)
@@autogefuehl Ok thanks, yes I did indeed watch the entire video, and I know you said that the ride is equally comfortable and that you (quote) "hardly notice any difference", but I wanted to ask specifically about the calmness of the entire body and how well the two cars manage to balance their bodies over uneven surfaces. Maybe you meant that as well, but imo a cars comfort-level doesn't fully correspond to the way it goes over bumps, if you know what I mean :) Again, sorry, maybe this is a misunderstanding, most likely am I not able to properly describe what I mean 🙃 Anyway, thank you very much, I really appreciate the fact that you answered my comment! (despite having sooo many subscribers) (btw. you now have one more!)
Just to let you know, i’ve got an executive chauffeur service operating in the Netherlands and Germany, in case you weren’t joking about being driven around! Driving Mercedes EQS tho👀
Thanks for the detailed feedback. I own a '21 Arteon Premium Rline and I love the styling, but I'm disappointed by the power train. I actually enjoyed the driving experience of my 2013 CC Lux a little more. It's scary to see the model get discontinued so quickly. Crazy! The daily compliments provide temporary bandaids until I can get my hands on an Audi RS7 or Genesis GV70!!
Fantastic review, as always! Something that caught my attention - you mention that there are very few differences between the ICE and EV versions of the 7 Series from the driver's seat. What about the paddles? I believe the i7 only has a left paddle, while the ICE variant has both.
I mean it's not beautiful it's not totally ugly either, there's something about this design. it's very properly distinctive . what I like the most about it is a theater from the inside to the outside it's completely crazy and very special compared to all the other limousines it's very luxurious very modern very futuristic. I am looking forward to see what they're going to do with the future 5 series 6 GT and 8 series
Those door closing buttons are awful. I just watched another review from a US auto journalist, and while demonstrating the capacitive AC vent open/close control, he accidentally swiped on it a bit too much and activated the door close button. That is TOTAL ergonomic failure by BMW. There either should be more distance between the door close button and any other control, or the door button should have been a physical button that requires a firm click down on it to activate, to avoid accidental activation, and not a capacitive control. It baffles me how such glaring design flaws make it past testing and into production.
I think BMW did the right thing placing the LCD planels on the doors - one for each passenger. I guess LCD displays are cheaper and more practical than physical buttons. I agree with you that the seats should ALWAYS have system redundancy with hard controls.
They're a century old & antiquated, why do you think BMW introduced iDrive twenty years & 8 generations ago? E38 dash was compared to NORAD defense station, so many damned buttons yet nowhere near enough to,operate this vehicle, buy a 2002.
Hello Thomas,I like BMWs design language. Even those that have negative thoughts about it will eventually like the design in time. As for me I see something that only few will see,so this is a best design it's not a look alike it stands out i like that❤️
Sorry but you and your ego are trying bit too hard.. :D Only a matter of time when BMWs market share will drop even more because of the current design language.
@@cupair so a Mercedes looks better because they have a three pointed star logo? And they tend to be repetitive and boring with their design language that they chose to be stupid and lazy over a redesign on a car, and look at the new C63 and E63 getting 4 cylinders, AMG is down falling
Great review ! Im really glad BMW brought the Exterior M-package to the i7. The design has grown on me and imo the 7 series looks really good with the sporty M-package. The i7 looks far better than the EQS, i can‘t stress that enough.
After watching this video. I see myself owning this BMW i7 and see myself driving it through roads in London, Liverpool, and Leicester. I'm finally have this automobile vehicle now. 😅😅
That welcoming iconic glow w/the crystal DRL's sets the standard AGAIN. Can't quite top Audi's Digital Matrix projector lights but at least BMW didn't get left in the dust. Thank you for devoting some extra time to the exterior lighting. It's something MANY car review channels completely ignore or gloss over when it's such an important feature of a car to alot of people.
BMW is going left field so fast. BMW 7 and X7 are hideous and remind me of horrible automotive design from the 90s. The 3 series also looks horrid compared to the pre-facelift in 2022 which then was amazing. They’re pushing so hard on less buttons and a single pane of glass for screens, it looks horrible compared to the last gen’s digital display cockpit and separate infotainment display. You loose the sense of being in a ‘driver’s cockpit’ with separate displays and modest amount of physical buttons. It’s especially out of place for a sedan. At this point, I appreciate more Audi’s separate displays, including a driver’s cockpit design. BMW’s latest designs are too radical, loose practicality and refinement, and cause controversy for their attempt at forcing people to pay extra or subscribe for heated seats, which budget cars include for free- outright scandalous. It seems many US state legislatures (notably New Jersey) are getting ready to prohibit this practice of subscriptions for hardware already included. Rant over.

highly appreciated! Please recommend :-)
That macbook connection is very sloppy. Is there no HDMI port in the center armrest?
no thats the port for the screen
One of the most complete review i’ve ever seen
Thanks!! Please share and welcome back here at any time :)
LOL re Thomas' 2-tone dressing. Great video. Thanks.
😂🙌
Superb video Thomas !! Amazing this BMW i7 !! The pinacle of luxury EV !!!
always great to read from you
I don't mind the split headlight design, sort of reminds me of the Z1.
So how does this experience compare to the V8 A8 you drove in Norway?
Love both. Steering better in the A8, suspension both awesome, A8 sadly only animal skin
Trylly amazing car 👏, so glad this review got out. And something i got nostalgic about. I watched some old review of an Peugeot and every review started with Full HD, Full screen and Full length let's go😁 and i miss it can you say it in some next review xD
Ok I will =)
The whispering voice , showing the car at night was very funny , more dramatic effect hahaha
Great review Thomas. I have a 760e on order and your comments about ICE Engines and six cylinder in particular encourages me that I made the right choice. Appreciate your detail. And I have ordered 'Thomas Blue' (i.e. Tanzanite blue) with Amorone Interior.
Cool 😎
If u can still switch, do the animals a favor and pick the Veganza seats! (Black/burgundy mix available if u like red)
I was working at the Rancho Mirage Ritz Carlton and was too shy to say hello 😂
no problem you could have =)
The delay on the screen surprises me. Do home HDMI setups suffer from this as well?
Not that
This makes me excited for the new 5 series, better looks but similar tech and interior bits.
Agreed!
The new 5 serie gonna be something extra, got the G31, and i cant wait!
Great video and lovely car now the new yardstick for luxury cars, lloks great in the red metallic. Thank you Thomas!
🙌🙌🙌
That front is like an after market design
Love everything about this design from door to door and from front to the boot.
Comparing this version with the E65 generation, that one at least looked better. Really apreciate your work!
Cheers m8!
Very Good JJob! I really appreciate your effort to show all colors and difference, Everything! Cool! Thank u!
@@TheWarpYoshimitsu It might be glossy but thats high quality plastic, thats for sure
I like the A8 interior
best looking inside and out. no ugly creases. very clean imposing design. good job BMW!
That white spec from the front - Unbelievably horrendous. I wonder what Clarkson would say about it. 😁
Does the petrol model come with the 31 inch display?
Using wool in the interior reminds me to the old luxury cars from the 1980s/1990s. I like that more and more brands are experimanting with alternatives to leather.
Your comments on how great this car is has a lot of gravity. I currently own a 6GT from new for the last 4 years and will look into this in 4/5 years time when a facelift is due and for a changeover…just an amazing machine
so the 7 series 760i petrol is have a light front grill right ?
The theatre screen in the back is Sick !
Sorry but looking at this dual color paint I can’t help myself stop thinking of those old cars that at some point they were crashed and the bumper was replaced with another one, but different color
So can you use theater mode while driving? I haven't watched the whole review but the theater mode part did not discuss it. I haven't seen it in action while driving so far and the question is what happens with the rear view mirror?
yes you can use that while driving
Does it come as standard with adaptive cruise control? I bet it doesn't
If you kindly could do a comparison between the i7 & the 740d
What watch you wearing Thomas?
I love that red color! I wouldn’t choose the two tone paint scheme.
I like the exterior, especially the front. However, I think the C- pillar should’ve been more rakish like a fastback (i.e. Gran Coupe). I think that would’ve been a better match to the front end’s design.
I really like that angular and bold look of the c-pillar. I really don't think a gran coupe-ish pillar would've been any better.
If they chopped off the top DRL and made the grill small like the old 8series. This design would be boss
To me it looks way better than Audi and MB!
Stunning job Thomas 👍
cheers pal !
Not once did you mention Tesla Summons parking feature. You can't forget the pioneers of the self parking.
Cheers Gary!
So the normal cars have d/s on the shifter, the electric one d/b, what does the phev have?
😄 good one! No idea we ll have to find out
No matter what i7 looks way better than that EQS which looks like crescent on wheels to make it more aerodynamic
Yeah i dont get it why the functionality is easier. The cancellation of buttons in this segment is rather about „what we think is modern“
8:15 imagine walking home with a friend on halloween night and seeing this oncoming glowing double kidneys face with lit spider eyebrows 👻
Great Review! Thomas, would you say it might be a good idea to wait 2-3 years so BMW can refine some of the tech and features- like the crushing door system?
Thanks 🙏
It’s always a good idea to wait a little if u want to keep the car for a longer time so first issues are fixed
It's fantastic ❤️❤️
Can you do it with
Bmw 760li 2022 and bmw i7 2023
And thank you
Looks like a pick up truck front and back with the body of a sedan in between.
(Sorry if you said it in video and I missed it.)
Thanks in advance! :)
Thanks 🙏 yeah both were with similar equipment. Did u watch full length? I tried to elaborate on that question
Maybe you meant that as well, but imo a cars comfort-level doesn't fully correspond to the way it goes over bumps, if you know what I mean :)
Again, sorry, maybe this is a misunderstanding, most likely am I not able to properly describe what I mean 🙃
Anyway, thank you very much, I really appreciate the fact that you answered my comment! (despite having sooo many subscribers) (btw. you now have one more!)
Does this car have to be detailed/ Wax differently from other vehicles?
Not really
your voice helps me fall asleep. that's not meant to be insulting. i like the show while awake too.
hehe thanks feel free to enjoy all day =)
Hey. When are you driving a NIO ET7?
I have: ua-cam.com/video/9BuWQ0hd-N0/v-deo.html
Just to let you know, i’ve got an executive chauffeur service operating in the Netherlands and Germany, in case you weren’t joking about being driven around! Driving Mercedes EQS tho👀
awesome =)
Thanks 🙏 hmm good ques, cant we see in the video?
@@autogefuehl Yes, the right paddle is visible in the 760 Li at 35:10, while it is missing on the i7 at 47:47 :)
How did the v8 compare to the s580 you drove?
Also remarks to that in the review!
The slightly higher drag is worth it for the look. Nothing else like it on the road. Incredible.
And there's still people thinking Tesla somehow can compete against BMW😅😅😅 Keep dreaming you Tesla fanboys
I heard the sunroof does not open. Is that true ?
true. Fixed roof with a shade if you order one
It baffles me how such glaring design flaws make it past testing and into production.
yep as seen in the review when Michel gets hit by the door :)
Getting used to the exterior looks and it really looks both cool and great
I think BMW did the right thing placing the LCD planels on the doors - one for each passenger.
Not in a limousine.
Hello Thomas,I like BMWs design language. Even those that have negative thoughts about it will eventually like the design in time. As for me I see something that only few will see,so this is a best design it's not a look alike it stands out i like that❤️
I know what you mean.. i also like the design
Sorry but you and your ego are trying bit too hard.. :D Only a matter of time when BMWs market share will drop even more because of the current design language.
@@cupair okay
@@cupair so a Mercedes looks better because they have a three pointed star logo? And they tend to be repetitive and boring with their design language that they chose to be stupid and lazy over a redesign on a car, and look at the new C63 and E63 getting 4 cylinders, AMG is down falling
Great review ! Im really glad BMW brought the Exterior M-package to the i7. The design has grown on me and imo the 7 series looks really good with the sporty M-package.
The i7 looks far better than the EQS, i can‘t stress that enough.
thanks! Keep tuning in !
After watching this video. I see myself owning this BMW i7 and see myself driving it through roads in London, Liverpool, and Leicester. I'm finally have this automobile vehicle now. 😅😅
The new 7 has busier face than those of the busiest android smartwatch.
That welcoming iconic glow w/the crystal DRL's sets the standard AGAIN. Can't quite top Audi's Digital Matrix projector lights but at least BMW didn't get left in the dust. Thank you for devoting some extra time to the exterior lighting. It's something MANY car review channels completely ignore or gloss over when it's such an important feature of a car to alot of people.
in your service!
The blacked out front is truly hideous. The car is a pig, and shows just how wrong a company can get it.
when i first saw the thumbnail, i thought they were some cheap Chinese knockoffs
Rant over.
Can somebody explain to me why "B" stands for recuperation?
OMG these cars are so wide I feel that you could hit the rocks on the side of the road at any time 😟 Great review👏
Thanks 🙏
The rear isn’t terrible but the front is still scary to look at 😢
