  • Barry Rose wrote this setting of “I will lift up mine eyes” for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Thanksgiving service, from which this extract is taken, on 7 June 1977, at St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
This was the world premier of the work and the only filmed performance ever to have been captured. Barry Rose accompanies on the organ with Christopher Dearnley directing the choir.

A great Chant composed by that genius Barry Rose. Superbly sung (of course) and accompanied. Thanks for posting this.

Lovely, lovely piece. St. Paul's has such splendid acoustics for Psalms. Who are the choristers in red and gold?

They are the choristers of His Majesty's Chapel Royal, or to give them their correct name, 'The Children of the Chapel'' Of course, when this was filmed, they were the choristers of Her Majesty's Chapel Royal.

I presume that they are the choristers of the Chapel Royal, St. James's Palace, brought in to increase the size of the choir on this special occasion.

They are the Chapel Royal, but not brought in to increase the size of the choir. As the sovereign's choir, they attended all state services in their own right.
