The Warthog is a fave of mine . We'll see how this goes . To my knowledge, they are still made with SK-5 , which approximates the steel chemistry of 1085.
Seeya JOE .
i think it is SK5! but not sure!
@@joex The catalog says "SK 5 ".
@@QuantumPyrite_88.9 I have the old model and the newer, larger one.
They're both pretty good.
I haven't broken either of them
but I haven't completely redlined them either.

Great video Joe X. You, my friend, are the MAN. I’m sooooo glad you decided to keep the channel going. I know you were at a pivotal point last year on whether to keep it going or wrap up shop. Thank you for keeping the ball rolling. I don’t think anyone else could possibly take your place in what you do. Much appreciated.
thanks a lot Kenneth, your comment means a lot to me!!!! i will go on till i am broke or dead!
Jeder Messerhersteller fürchtet sich vor deinen Tests - jeder potenzielle Kunde dankt dir dafür!
AMEN brother!
That’s the point! 🍻
Thank you for your dedication, energy and time that you put into these videos.
Although the intensity of the test are overkill at times it still shows the "cheapness" of production knives.
thanks, yes it does!!!!
Joe,
your rock, steel pipe, tree stump,
and cinder block all passed the test.
You know no limits.
yeah, thanks, till we die!
I have the Warthog.
Was going to take it to South America but then I hear it's illegal in Mexico.
I don't especially want to vacation
in a Mexican prison.
Hmm, might be a good place to try out a Warthog...@@steverose3318
prison in Mexico, a no no!!!
good one!
My wrists and elbows hurt just from watching these videos. Oh to be young again. I’m thinking Joe may suffer from all of this later in life.
dont worry i will die soon!
I thoroughly enjoy your channel Joe. I’ll never use a fixed blade as hard as anything depicted in your tests, but even so, when I buy a fixed blade I want it to be able to take brutal abuse. 👍🏻🇺🇸
@@joex I have cheated death at least a couple thousand times. And then I survived pancreatic cancer which is very rare. My new normal is not great but they tell me it’s better than the alternative. You’re going to live a long and fabulous life. Best wishes sir.

Woah...I tought that tip was much stronger... Small tang for such a beefy knife! Thank you Joe!!!!

ok cool!
this channel is awesome ruff tests
thanks a lot!

u are welcome exorcist, i might need u one day!!!!
You could put a whole lotta butter on that thing spreading it on many slices of bread. The Ka Bar Warthog would also make for a ruggedly handsome paper weight. Excellent investigative reporting, Joseph. If there was a Pulitzer Prize for breaking knives and castrating fanboys you would get a Lifetime Achievement Award.
thanks a lot! a prize for destruction! fantastic!
Am I mistaken or has the 4-max scout outperformed a lot of these fixed blades?
Thanks for the hard work!
yes it had!
Sr1 lite did awesome as well
@@JJRuiz-pn2cq
@@JJRuiz-pn2cq I too am a fan of the SR1 lite’s geometry, size, and performance, and the PRICE!!! Goodness gracious. I had to get it in clip point and tanto!!!

Another Ka-Bar broken at the shoulder. They really need to work on that. Thanks Joe!!
yeah they should, thanks!
This is my favourite knife for fire prepping around camp and battening wood. Very interesting to watch this one Joe 👍 It did shock me how quickly that tip broke 🤔 Basically zero flex! But it hasn't put me off this awesome knife. It's helped me understand how far I can push it. I have the folder version. I think, this is nice for garden work.)) Only.😊
i think so too! for the tomato!
Joe X wins again. Seems like the blades are maybe too hard? That seemed like it snapped way too easy on that tip test. Especially for such a massive tip. That’s what she said.
broke too easy bro!
I’m glad I sold that blade.
good idea!
one of the first knives i ever bought a long time ago in a galaxy far far away - i still cant figure out what its mission is - its a cool knife - looks good so i keep it around :-) the one i have has the old kbar flat metal handle end - it goes way back - made in the USA

Disappointment of the year....thanks for the new destructest. Today I went to train for the winter in cold springs. I hope that this winter will be colder, so there will be fewer mosquitoes next year.
u are welcome my friend! i hope for a very cold winter! about time!
Is the WTG Puzon Wilderness Test happening soon? That would be awesome!
i dont think so!
@@joex schade
That's a tiny tang, great vid Joe.
we should call it "shit tang"
@@joex agreed
You know what they say, "tiny tang, tiny wang"
Thank you joe
u are welcome!
Nice, got one as a gift and i dig it. Knew it would snap, just thought the tang would go first.
tiny tiny tang it has!
Joe, great video!! I could tell by the vid's short length that the knife failed early. I'm surprised it wasn't a better chopper and think maybe the edge geometry was blunt? As for stabbing, I'm surprised by that too. Near the tip the edge is almost parallel to the stabbing surface. I thought it would suck at stabbing. I still don't like it for a penetration tip.
Like another viewer commented, it's not a very practical knife. It's awkward at most tasks except for batoning. But it looks cool. Also for a such a short blade, it would create a lot of tissue damage in a defensive emergency... if you could penetrate clothing with that weird-ass non-tip.
Snapping so easily at the tip test was a disappointment but not a surprise. I wonder what the Rockwell is? I have a hard time sharpening mine. It's one of the most difficult of the bunch I have, maybe because it is too hardened. I cannot get a razor edge, other knives shave hair after only a short amount of work.
I love the handle. It's also good in winter when wearing heavy gloves. Thanks again. Prost!
cool, yeah the handle is awesome, the rest not so much!!! cheers my friend!!!!
For $65 this is an amazing knife, way more durable than any ordinary Ka-Bar.
The tip breaking doesn't bother me because that probably means the blade is well hardened and with good thin geometry.
7 minutes on the iron rod before the first catastrophic failure is really good, especially when the handle shows no sign of fatigue.
yeah for that price it is ok! but it is a weird tool!
Joe x make a video using the
Ka bar ek model 4 , that would be good
ok maybe!
Cold steel MAYHEM knife test please

Next the tops Viking Tactics Norseman 😁??? Or Esee laser strike???

THAT TIP SNAPPED SO EASY! 😭

Excelente trabajo amigo ✌️

Ciao! I just watched the test, what can I say, I expected more flexibility on that blade. It is interesting to see the test of a knife I actually have. Thanks!.
cool, u are welcome!
Ciao ka-bar ciao 😂
yeah adios!
I’m surprised it lasted so long with that thin tang

AMEN brother, i am more a vag. type of men!
No wiggle in the handle? There's no blade left !
exactly!
1080-85 - SK 5, It does not matter, is it amount of carbon %, but on blades still depends on heat threathment and final hardened. Tigershark SK5, for example Japan, 20 years old SK5 has 57hrc +/- 0.5 degreese. Anyway, Joe, Im thinking now about Tops silent hero, thats nice knife, and thanks for testing them. !!! Jacob
thanks for the info!!!!!
Check my Tops Silent hero PART 2 video!
Yes, thanks man, I have already saw it, is it nice looking and practic knife, for quiete good money, and design is super. And I would not have it for hard and heavy use. :-)

thanks!

How would someone send you a knife to test
because my boys love me too much!
Thanks,you saved me some $
u are welcome!
So that means, the warthog will withstand almost every bit of normal use you put it through. From chopping to batoning.
I sometimes find your verdicts very harsh. I mean, you hammered that thing 4cm into hard wood and then blame the manufacturer for a broken tip when you apply unusual lateral force.
That situation would likely never occur in any real life scenari.
So again I thank you for your effort and for showing the absolute limits of a blade. But you shouldn’t rate knives down so hard when they fail during such extreme conditions. The tip for example must’ve had at least the thickness and geometry of an ESEE-5 to withstand that force.
I think the warthog seems like a very tough knife, especially considering the price!
sometimes i am drunk, sometimes pissed.... i am like a pusse, sometimes i have my "bloody days" of the month, u know what i mean!!!
@@joexabsolutely😁 It was nothing against you, I enjoy your videos. Saved me many times from wasting money. But I think the warthog, especially the handle construction, held up quite well.
The handle is the part that often sucks on cheaper knives. Loose scales, rubber handles that start to wiggle etc.
What is this trowel even for? Anyone can explain to me the design concepts?
i am not sure!
You could sharpen it a zillion times before the blade is whittled down to nothing.
Hilarious!@@steverose3318

El bricko getting kinda round
it needs to get pregnant soon!
@@joex ha!
It's too short! not applicable as an axe or machete.
The company makes a knife in between. In the end, only few Hulks buy ones. I guess.
it is a zwitter!
The edge looks super thick. I wonder how it would do on wood with a less clunky edge?
yeah interesting info!
Be kind to my warthog Joe x.
nope!
@@joex It doesn't hurt to try.🤣
With a blade that wide you think it would be a good chopper. Weird.
yeah true!
Ka-Bar should be forced to use the remaining pieces to shave their mangina.
yeah, they should do that!°
he easily could have chopped that tree by working around the cut. very inefficient.
