I was 10 when this movie came out and this movie meant so much to me (still does). Probably because it captures that 3-5 year period in your life where your friends are everything… oh and video games.
My mom took me and my best friend Todd to go see this. We were so pumped and loved it, we were also like 7 years old and deep into playing nes games. It was the best movie any 7 year old kid in 1989 could ever have hoped to see.
Same here bro. Awesome! Gona watch with my 9yo daughter who loves games on a upcoming beach trip one night! My VHS copy I have is the SAME ONE id rent as a kid from my local rental store. Same as you I bought the DVDs as well.
Great video! My friends and I wore that poor VHS tape out. We would repeatedly watch the “Send Me An Angel” scene!! And I love the traveling scenes during “I Live By the Groove.”
Alot those scenes were filmed in dayton Nevada. About 45 mins from where I live. The place they were sitting at with their "reno or bust" sign is still there. I think it's a restaurant
Great video. However, you mentioned the majority of the musicians on the soundtrack but completely overlooked the cornerstone band/song in that movie: The Real - Send Me an Angel.
This was filmed around the area where i live in northern Nevada. I remember them filming it. The car that looks like a spider is still there. The tour guide at universal studios was the same tour guide i had when i was there. Jim piri.
Am I the only one who wants to see an actual Video Armageddon attraction at Universal Studios when they make their Nintendo Land attraction at Epic Universe, it can be like the Nintendo game equivalent of the American Idol Experience at Disney's Hollywood Studios, where visitors would play in various Nintendo Games from different console generations (NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, even the handhelds like Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and DS) in tournament fashion, there would be 6 qualifiers throughout the day, and one last show with the winners of the 6 qualifiers competing to see who'll win the chance to win a big prize from a wheel (including a Carnival Cruise), all with an over-the-top host and an 80s nintendo feel to it, do you think that would be good?
The film’s absolutely stuffed full of game cameos, not least from those PlayChoice-10 cabinets mentioned earlier, which means you can catch glimpses of classics such as Metroid, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, R.C. Pro-Am, Ivan Ironman Stewart’s Super Off-Road, Super Mario Bros 2, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you’re patient enough, you’ll also be treated to the edifying sight of Christian Slater and Beau Bridges playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The premiere of this movie was held in Palmdale California. My dad was the manager of that theater then, so I was able to attend. I was 15 years old at the time. The producers, director and some of the stars were there. Fred Savage wasn't there, but Jenny Lewis was. That's where I received the Wizard t-shirt.
Shout Factory just released a special edition Blu-Ray disc of The Wizard packed with bonus materials including lots of deleted scenes. You can order it here: www.shoutfactory.com/product/the-wizard-collector-s-edition?product_id=7300
Great video! One of my all time favorite movies. Just wanted to point out that the racing game they play, 470,000 and climbing on F1 Dream, is actually called Top Speed. The marquee is wrong. I added most of the early IMDB goofs and this was one of them.
Well, I just got the Collectors Edition from Amazon today. It's a Blu-Ray DVD done by Shout Factory, that they actually did a better job then how Universal Studio has done there. Although I would have to watch it first to see how well they transitioned the movie into this era, hoping the extras that are included become more worth it. Deleted scenes, a look back behind-the-scenes, interview with a real video game counselor, keeping my fingers crossed here. The one thing not included, bloopers, unfortunately.
thanks for clip.it was very amazing. i love nostalgic movie and games.. now i'm searching in youtube for more foreign child movie that was my wish... im from iran
Congrats on you You Tuber of the Month nomination! Love this video btw, great frickin work man! Lookin forward to going through your other content. Cheers!
Awsome movie and awesome video! This is one movie where I only need to see like 2 parts of it and I am good. Can you guess which 2 parts? Both involve Nintendo products. Cheers!
If you look carefully You will find lincoln hawks truck 'bigbaby' from OVER THE TOP in the chase scene near the end of the movie. They ride in it to the competition
Was there another version with a different soundtrack? I quite literally just got done watching this film (and have seen it many times before) and I don't recognize any of these songs.
You should have mentioned somewhere that "Super Mario Bros. 2" is actually based on "Doki Doki Panic," and is not the real SMB2. The reason why we didn't get the real SMB2 in NA is because Nintendo said it'd be too hard for westerners...more or less the same reasoning why we didn't get a tonne of RPGs that came out on the NES/Super NES/N64.

Thank you! And yes I agree! Those montages were great with the music!

That’s amazing!
Is Reno in Northern Nevada?
@@obatv5733 yes
Thats awesome. Im on this video bc i was searching around for the wizard filming locations
This feels more like an NES history lesson than focusing on the movie itself.
I liked the Wizard 1989. Jimmy liked playing Video games.
30-Year Anniversary of The Wizard (1989-2019)
Yeah dude!
Sweet!
Great mini doc in the Wizard. It's crazy to think Nintendo unveiled SMB3 that way even to this day. Liked and subscribed!
Thank you so much! Stick around and check out some other videos I have. A new one should be up tomorrow!
Genius marketing

This a cult classic. Legendary movie like goonies
"Send Me an Angel" was a HUGE song featured in the film. Surprised this wasn't mentioned.

Yep! It’s great too! I preordered it last year and got the special poster!

Thanks so much for watching. I love this movie as well. Thanks for that info!

Awesome video!!! I love this movie and loved seeing all those old NES commercials!
Yes! Some of those old commercials were crazy!
Very enjoyable video. Just took me back.
*SEND ME AN ANGEL*
Part of my childhood
Fred Savage as Corey in the Wizard, Ben Savage as Corey in Boy Meets World. And only 5 years apart.
Saw the deleted scenes of the wizard on UA-cam
Oh man how could you leave out the end song "I found my way" it was never released and it was a crime against humanity!
Sally Dworsky lol. Good catch
Who sings the song I found my way?
Congrats on you You Tuber of the Month nomination! Love this video btw, great frickin work man! Lookin forward to going through your other content. Cheers!
Thanks so much! Working on a History of Splatterhouse segment now!

I love the Power Glove. It's so bad...
Bad, but in a good way!
If you look carefully
You will find lincoln hawks truck 'bigbaby' from OVER THE TOP in the chase scene near the end of the movie. They ride in it to the competition
Good bit of trivia there!
Was there another version with a different soundtrack? I quite literally just got done watching this film (and have seen it many times before) and I don't recognize any of these songs.
Tobey Macguire looked the youngest out of most of the child actors but he was actually older than most of them.
Haha right!
Before Pokémon there was Captain N and Super Mario Bros Super Show.
I love the songs Send me an Angel 😇 by Reel Life, I Live by the Groove Paul Carrack & I Found my Way (end credits) 🎶 🎶 🎤 ❤ 🎮
19:25 I was about to say... you forgot the cameo of a young George Costanza (Jason Alexander) But that's not him. :)
You forgot the theme song by Real Life Send Me An Angel😱😱😱😱
wicked mate, new sub from youtuber of the month!

Sm2 was still made the mario team and re-tooled to be sm2... so it's not like it was just a random game that was reskinned
