Hey man, great tutorial - having been a Maschine and Ableton user for many many years I've hit many road blocks getting jammed ideas out of Maschine into my DAW so I'm able to refine and finish them in a more capable environment. Thank you so much for this!!! 🙏 Apparently you can now save the template without having the outputs in the drum rack disappear on you. So I spent the whole afternoon setting up a Ableton and Maschine template with all the 8 ableton drum pads pre-routed to 8 tracks. Definitely a great video, but holy moley is it just the most backwards way to integrate maschine into ableton. at this point you might as well export the individual clips and load them into ableton 1 by 1. i love maschine, but every time i want to really polish a track, i end up becoming frustrated by this shit and just dont bring it into ableton at all. this is the opposite of quick, and i cant imagine doing this every single time i have a new idea.
its just completely ridiculous. I love Maschine but I will never buy another item until they give us the freedom to work seamlessly in our Daw or at least a midi clock sync to every major daw that works without delay
Thank you. You just saved me from having to watch a 30 minute video only to probably come to the same conclusion. Efficiency and speed are everything for my workflow and personality. That's why I literally barely touch my Ableton Push, but still use it for specific purposes. I just got the Maschine and it makes me realize I am going have to design my own custom template or find my own custom way to integrate Ableton and Maschine.
I totally agree also, it ruins the work flow. No one can seriously solely work in Maschine to finish a track. Does anyone know of any other ways to easily integrate Maschine into Ableton? Maschine could be great, if it allowed easier integration. Surely that would be the point of a great midi controller / drum / mpc, or any instrument, is for versatility in order to make great music.
Kudos for breaking that down so concisely! Interesting but IMHO just bounce audio... this shit is ridiculous.. I have been using maschine as a VST within ableton for years and I also love it as a stand-alone on a second computer. I have midi synced it to and from everything at one point or another, but I have come to the painfully obvious conclusion that as always; less is more.. Keep it simple. sync or vst maschine to ableton, bounce audio out of maschine for arrangement within ableton. Sounds good?.. print it.. move on. $.02
Hi, very nice tutorial. But one question is still open (to me): Can i also use (by following your guide) my maschine hardware to enter drums without changing Maschine into Midi Mode? I am using 2.6.5
That was very informative and useful for sure as I've been looking to integrate Maschine with Ableton. I am hoping to somewhat bang out my drums in Maschine and switch to Push 2 with layering in my synths cords etc! so hopefully I can figure it out from what you've showed here. Thank you!
+Michael Ford I kinda have the same wish - have maschine as a dedicated drum machine, it feels so good for drums! Thanks for the kind words Michael! If you have any breakthroughs let me know! ✌️️
Thats a lot of work to do every time you wanna properly sequence something, especially if it as busy track with a lot of instruments. Seriously considering ditching maschine and buying push 2. Great tutorial tho.
+DJ D-ONE yeah, i feel the same a lot of the time - there's an immediacy to maschine that I don't get with push, but on the whole I haven't done a project in maschine since I got it...
Thanks for this tutorial. Every time I try to drop the pattern in ableton scene it's split in as many track as the drumkit tracks are, but every track is mapped on C3. I notice a small different in MIDI icon you use to drag&drop MIDI pattern; on my Maschine it lacks the 4 dots above the MIDI icon. It is a MIDI group? Many thanks
What happens if inside your drum kit in Maschine you used pad mode to transpose individual notes of an instrument (i.e kick)? What would be the best routing so as to not lose those pitch changes when arranging in Ableton?
This is incredibly helpful. However I can't figure out why my app doesn't have the same settings at 12m00s (Group/Input/Midi Routings). Comments below point this out as well. I've got no idea how to get my patterns from Maschine to ableton to have them trigger the hardware.
My biggest hope when i bought live 10 was that i would be able to record midi patterns in machine and arrange/mix them (also to be able to mix individual drum sounds) in my host DAW (while using my control surface mixer). Pretty sure this is what every DAW user wants to be able to do when they spend their hard earned money on a machine regardless of what DAW you're using. Since it proved to be hopeless in FL studio i bought Live 10 Suite (i might add that i'm a broke college student so all of this has been quite the investment). i thought i had it all figured out after i started using this method i was able to get the sounds/chords to work but i ran into trouble when i tried to use his Audio track method to mix the drum sounds, Since im using my el cheapo bcf2000 to try and mix, the drum rack method doesn't work how i want it to i can't use my mixer to control the volume of the drum sounds at all (while using the drum rack method). i was able route the sounds (using the audio track method) but i can't arrange the drums as a clip in the arrangement view. i can only arrange it if i keep all the drum sounds on the same track and this PISSES ME OFF if ANYONE has an idea of what im doing wrong please reply i would be thrilled to figure out how to get my drum pattern midi on to one (or several doesn't matter to me) clip(s) and be able to arrange it while routing the audio to separate audio tracks for mixing. I'll keep trying until i deem this goal of mine to be impossible. im not about to use MACHINE as my main daw when i have ableton live 10 Suite and FL studio 20 producer edition at my disposal.
Can you tell me if there's a way to run standalone maschine 2 into pro tools onto seperate tracks and not in midi mode? I'd like to retain the functionality of maschine mk3 micro.. Thanks
great video, very helpful! what screen recorder are you using for this? I've been trying a couple, but none of them are able to record sound coming from Maschine.
Hi. Thanks fo the video. The way you were setting things up towards the end of the video is the way I would ideally like to have maschine set up. Ideally what I would like to do is have a drum rack in ableton to trigger a drum rack in maschine with each sound on it's own channel as you were doing towards the end of the video. When I do this though does that mean that if all 16 channels are taken up by the drum rack that I'm not able to have any other sounds from maschine routed into ableton?
Hello. Thanks for the tutorial. At around 9:34, on the MIDI input section I can see you have the "Active" toggle, Root note & Thru toggle and channel all - for some reason on my Machine setup, I can only see "Key Mode" which is set to manual, "Source" set to none, "Channel" set to all, "Start note" and "Thru" toggle set to off. Any reason why this is and I can't see the active toggle?
wow, that was proper in-depth! thank you! do you have a tutorial where you can sequence from maschine 2 stepsequencer into ableton live? same like when you would use your mouse on a midi clip and enter each note but now triggered/played via maschine2
+andy slate you're welcome! If you mean using maschine's step sequencer to dynamically control an actual ableton clip, I don't think that's possible natively... off the top of my head. You can send the midi out of maschine and control an ableton track, but when it comes to recording midi you'll find that it doesn't 'sync', and removing notes from the sequence in maschine doesn't remove them from the live clip...
+BeatDistrict hi! Yes, it should be - as long as you're set up right and that may involve setting up a separate midi channel that accepts push inputs and sends it to your expected channel, just to make sure you don't end up with unexpected things on multiple channels. You might have to go 'off script' from the video depending on your needs, I'll look into the feasibility and use cases - what would your workflow be? ✌️️
Thank you for your fast response. Well. At home I only use my Ableton Push 2. But when I go to my studio, I want to be able to use the rest of the features of the Push 2 AND use my Maschine to control the drums. In addition to this, it's good to know that I use the presets of audiomodder.com. Maybe you're familiar with them. As far as I understand these presets are built up the same as you guys show in this video.
I’ve watched a dozen Maschine/live integration vids and this is best. Any one know how to set a drumRack like this and use the pads to play drums and record midi in live. If no input is selected then only the recorded midi notes play, but you can’t record notes in😢
I recall there should be a midi effect in Ableton Live that you could just drop in front of the Drum Rack to shift the midi notes down by 2 octaves and before all the External Instruments on the "Pads" to shift them up again? Then just save that as an Instrument Rack and reuse it without needing any tweaking in the midi clips or in Maschine ever again. EDIT: In your setup only one midi device would be needed, as you already tell the Drum Rack to shift the notes.
+Noxoreos I'll have to go back to my notepad because I'm pretty sure that I tried and abandoned using midi utilities to achieve this but I can't remember why... you might well be right though! I'll look into it when I get back off my holiday - the latest maschine update allows setting project defaults of midi routing so this tutorial could probably be made easier ✌️️
This was really helpful. Yet, when I trigger a synth, it is also playing my drums... Quite a few weird quirks. Can't seem to have this behave consistently. Anyone else having this issue?
Stick with Maschine and thanks for your effort, maybe someone will needed but maschine is on its own software and yes there is a sync but... it's a waste of time so Push or other midi for Ableton and maschine with NI hardware... that's onley make sense
Great video. Thanks for showing us how you can achieve a very interesting integration between Live and Maschine but I agree that it is a very tedious process, with all the manual mapping for each group. Either NI or Ableton should invest into a better solution as these two products complement each other in a very interesting way. By the way, what are your thoughts on Maschine Jam? Would it be an easier controller for handling both Ableton and Maschine, or is Push 2 and Maschine still the best combination for music production?
+André Pinto good question! I think maschine jam looks great, but I haven't yet used it... it looks like it would shine in maschine rather than as an extra ableton controller, and for me the things that push does really well are the simple integrations with Live like browsing, converting on the fly, slicing samples and so on. If maschine had real time timestretching, linear sequencer, and audio tracks, I'd perhaps use it over live more - but as it stands I use Live instead of Maschine rather than in conjunction lately.
I don't use maschine's scene sequencer. All the arrangement is done in Live. I use the pattern sequencer though. Maschine's libraries are so good. Are you sampling directly in Live then?
+André Pinto lately yes, I like the realtime timestretch options and the 64 pads on push. There's swings and roundabouts always though, maschine has a much better library browse imo!
Thanks for creating this! I am getting stuck at one point. I have followed everything 100% up to the point (6 minute marker) where you drag the midi clip into ableton, set the Maschine input to external 2 but when I create a new scene and play it, the audio is not playing through ableton. In my external instrument, I am seeing the MIDI bars light up but the Audio From has no metering. Any suggestions? I've been trying to get this working for months, to no avail.
Great tutorial. It was a bit tough to follow at times and now I have even more questions. In the end you ended up routing to channels 14, 15, and 16 mainly because I think those channels were not taken up. So what do you do if you want say 3 maschine drum groups that each fill up all 16 channels?
Sorry I never replied to this before! 16 channels is quite a lot for mixing purposes. Maybe best to think of each channel as a bus and do some basic mixing into the bus from maschine’s mixer to start with. If you really, really need every channel you can get, perhaps try loading multiple Maschine plugins. I’d caution against it though, because you’re creating a lot of work by micromanaging your sounds in that way…
Great video, thank you for posting it. (Ableton will probably end up being grateful as well for the number of people like myself who migrate from lite to standard). One quick question.. do you have any insight on whether this overrides the internal routing of Maschine's perform effects? I could definitely see still wanting to use the touch strip from inside Ableton.
So practically, it's only good for 1 bar integration (Maschine). Though it's a great tutorial thanks for spending your time to teach mate. Sitting here wishing more could be done though considering Maschines fast pace, but hey, what can you do
Nice video, however I'm having issues with configuring it like you have. Perhaps its lack of technical understanding and am missing something or maybe there has been an update to the software since releasing this tutorial. Using Maschine software 2 and Ableton 10. One of the issues I'm having is when I'm lifting the midi form Maschine it lifts each sounds midi as a separate scene in Ableton. Any advice would be great. Also wondering if you do remote access support as I have little patience for setting up these configurations when they start to not work so Chris if you are open to helping set this up let me know how to get in touch with you. Thanks
This is a great tutorial, thank you for uploading this! I have a question, what is you have the typical side chaining compression bass/kick in Maschine, but you don't want to separate every drum track into several independent tracks, do you loose that compression if you use the drums in Live as a group?
+Gina Monk thank you! Essentially, if you choose to route your audio from maschine into live you'll have to lose your maschine routings and thus redo your effects chains. It's simple in live but a bit of a pain to separate your tracks for things like sidechaining kicks. What you could do is send just your kick to another channel and the rest of the group to a consolidated channel, which should sort things? I'd have to check but I think that'd be fine..? Good luck!
Thank you very much! I have taken note of your comments. I have a few projects to work on using your advice, let's see if something else comes up. Cheers!
So I've tried to set this up this evening in Ableton, and while step one worked like a charm... the drum rack part is where I got stuck :( Looks like after you made this video, there have been some updates to the Maschine 2 software, and we no longer have the same setup for routing the MIDI output of the groups :( Where you have the option to tick "active" ...we no longer have that option; we only have "Routings" OFF / Manual / Drumkit. Really not sure where to go from here. I know I'm commenting on something ancient lol, but if you had an idea - it would be awesome :D
It still works, but the latest updates have made it possible to save some of the routings in the plugin to make it simpler if you have a rock solid workflow...
For some reason my destination & external inputs keep going back to group instead of being locked into the channel I set. Any clue why or what setting I can change?
I was wondering if i just use the settings you did in the first 15 mins, which means without the drumrack, still i get the effects and mix that i did on maschine studio? I mean i would like to play my samples, drums, bass etc on maschine studio, mix them up and then switch to ableton to put everything together keeping the effects (and the mix of course) that i had on Mstudio.
+GunsLesPaul yup, if you just want to arrange in live and leave the whole mix to maschine you can just follow the midi steps and leave the rest be - live will trigger maschine but all audio will come out of maschine as stereo mix ✌️️
Thank you so much, anyway i've got another problem i did every steps you told but when i try to load another pattern it is triggered by the previous one that i loaded. I mean if i load the bass then that patter will play also on the drums. It drives me crazy!
HI, very usefull tutorial that explained my biggest issues however I'm stuck on issue where in Maschine i have a group with multiple sounds and one of them I've used in keyboard mode. After all routings to Ableton, midi for particular sound which has been played in keyboard mode triggers different sound from maschine group instead of changing pitch. Any idea how to go around this one?

Agreed.
Sounds good?.. print it.. move on. $.02
thank you so much! this tutorial is the best by far!
+snoopyoverthehills you're welcome, glad it was useful! 👍
boss!
Awesomely mate !, thanks anyway ...
Drag the octave slider up and down featured on the left side of the pads in the Drum Rack instrument.
Thats a lot of work to do every time you wanna properly sequence something, especially if it as busy track with a lot of instruments. Seriously considering ditching maschine and buying push 2. Great tutorial tho.
+DJ D-ONE yeah, i feel the same a lot of the time - there's an immediacy to maschine that I don't get with push, but on the whole I haven't done a project in maschine since I got it...
is there a way to use Maschine as a keyboard to record synths and bass's and use automation swell like filters straight into Ableton? thanks
I followed these steps and I get the hack thanks for sharing this vide
ITS REALLY WORKED LOL THANK YOU DUDE
This is incredibly helpful. However I can't figure out why my app doesn't have the same settings at 12m00s (Group/Input/Midi Routings). Comments below point this out as well. I've got no idea how to get my patterns from Maschine to ableton to have them trigger the hardware.
Great tutorial, man! Thank you so much, really helped a lot! Cheers
I wish this was answered. I'm wondering the same thing.
I received my Maschine+ few days ago and am looking for the Maschine software, its not in Native Acces. Where can I find it?
wow, that was proper in-depth! thank you!
do you have a tutorial where you can sequence from maschine 2 stepsequencer into ableton live? same like when you would use your mouse on a midi clip and enter each note but now triggered/played via maschine2
Thanks for the great video. In this set-up, is it possible tot record from push AND simultaniously from maschine hardware into Ableton midi-clips?
If no input is selected then only the recorded midi notes play, but you can’t record notes in😢
Bhai ap bohot acche ho thank you so much I am so happy✨✌😆💞
Wow..This helps a lot..Thank you.
I'll look into it when I get back off my holiday - the latest maschine update allows setting project defaults of midi routing so this tutorial could probably be made easier ✌️️
nice tuto, I had the sa issue
Very useful. Thanks very much!!
Amazing crack, and the erfect. I´m testing it right nowtutorial was p
Is there any way to do this without using maschine hardware? I have komplete so have the software, but I dont have any NI hardware.
Great tutorial. It was a bit tough to follow at times and now I have even more questions. In the end you ended up routing to channels 14, 15, and 16 mainly because I think those channels were not taken up. So what do you do if you want say 3 maschine drum groups that each fill up all 16 channels?
This is the question I have been searching the net for and still no answers, it looks like we are limited to 16 channels which is crap!
I’d caution against it though, because you’re creating a lot of work by micromanaging your sounds in that way…
todo funciona, eres el mejor
Great video, thank you for posting it. (Ableton will probably end up being grateful as well for the number of people like myself who migrate from lite to standard). One quick question.. do you have any insight on whether this overrides the internal routing of Maschine's perform effects? I could definitely see still wanting to use the touch strip from inside Ableton.
So practically, it's only good for 1 bar integration (Maschine). Though it's a great tutorial thanks for spending your time to teach mate. Sitting here wishing more could be done though considering Maschines fast pace, but hey, what can you do
+dwelz23 hi! Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean by 1 bar integration?
i think he misunderstood that u can set up only 1 bar of music this way no mate u can make shit as long as you want diffrent patterns too
Ace content 🔥
Good job....why native instruments make dificult the integration? Roland and Akai the integration is better and easy
Thanks
he covered this in the video at 9:20
Remember the good old days when you just plugged in your instrument and hit record
Cheers!
Very thorough ! thx :)
So I've tried to set this up this evening in Ableton, and while step one worked like a charm... the drum rack part is where I got stuck :(
Looks like after you made this video, there have been some updates to the Maschine 2 software, and we no longer have the same setup for routing the MIDI output of the groups :(
Where you have the option to tick "active" ...we no longer have that option; we only have "Routings" OFF / Manual / Drumkit.
Really not sure where to go from here. I know I'm commenting on something ancient lol, but if you had an idea - it would be awesome :D
Man, how you do it in 2.7 or 2.6.9 version. They changed some Group MIDI input page and it seems it doesn't work correct.
It still works, but the latest updates have made it possible to save some of the routings in the plugin to make it simpler if you have a rock solid workflow...
For some reason my destination & external inputs keep going back to group instead of being locked into the channel I set. Any clue why or what setting I can change?
I cannot get the audio through with an external instrument to work. I am using your exact settings, so I'm wondering what might be missing in steps?
dude thanks for helping
Will I be able to use it with newest ios version??
i love u so much bro, thanks very much
I was wondering if i just use the settings you did in the first 15 mins, which means without the drumrack, still i get the effects and mix that i did on maschine studio?
+GunsLesPaul make sure your midi channels are set up separately!
@@HowtoMakeMusic can you tell me where you have to set them up separately, in Ableton or Maschine? I can not figure this problem out aswell
Thanks! Very helpful for me..
Morning, now I just want to make my beats on maschine and with ableton want to arrange and add vocals.. can i do it without all those midi techniques?
Absolutely.
the notes, just keep experinting until the notes harmonise and soft good together.
Any idea how to go around this one?
has anyone ever co up with such a good lody, and forget it seconds later
So I have to spend 30 minuets on every project to make it work?
No, you do it one time and save it as a template for ableton.
Thanks bro so much😀
