To return back to "stand-alone" mode you reverse the process by hitting "settings/system" and hitting a new button now called "stand-alone."

Thank you, Blake. Loving the drag and drop of both audio and midi from Maschine to Ableton. Never one to hold back on running before I can walk, I bought a Maschine plus as well with the idea of using it live and condensing my Ableton tracks so as to be able to set them up on Maschine plus for a live set. Does the drag and drop work the other way?
Great video. It would also be good to see a whole workflow of say, working in Maschine and then taking it into Live to finish a track. Utilizing Push 2 as well.
i'd agree with pierre B on that....just picked up maschine today...and have push in my system and really want to see how it might work having both controllers inside of ableton.....
Thanks, for the info. Just about everyone that try to explain this it seem like they were explaining how to get to the moon and back, but you explained for dummies like me, so good job.
By far the most informative video how to use Ableton Live and my trusty ol' Maschine Studio together. Keep up the good work. You really helped me here. Many Thanks, and stay creative.❤

I believe there are some instructions on how to do that on the Native Instruments website, I just did a quick search, this might be helpful for what you want to do -- support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413367278097-How-to-Install-MASCHINE-Templates-for-Ableton-Live
Thanks! Appreciate the info. Just got a sub from me! After you've dragged the midi into Ableton and finished editing it. Do you then convert it to audio?
Thanks for watching and subscribing, appreciate it! It's up to you if you want to convert to audio, by freezing to audio you free up some brain space on your computer so it doesn't have to work as hard...totally up to you and how your computer is doing with all the plugins you might be using.
I really have been wanting to get out of sitting at my desk when making music. I've been stuck between MK3 and Push, but I think MK3 is the winner. Easily explained. Thanks!
Did the software (firmware?) update that you mention at the outset ever appear? If so, has it transformed the way you use Maschine with Ableton? Thank you.
Blake, I really like your style of teachine with Maschine and Ableton, and producing in general. I am currently trying to figure out how to best set up my live tracks for my church using Maschine and Ableton Lite, and the songs we do are subject to repeating or jumping to another part of the song. Trying to avoid buying the standard edition if possible since I already had to pony up the dough for Logic Pro (needed some of the tools and sounds). Anyway, thanks for the breakdown.
Hello ! I have a Mikro mk3 and I know that still not exist teamplate for it . But I saw (even in official site of NI ) that it is possible integrate Maschine software in Ableton as VST. BUT now I can't find this information . Maybe you can help me with this dilemma ? Thanks for answer !
Only found your vids and channel yesterday. Amazing 🤩. You have really helped me come up with a better work flow. Love the explanations very informative and to the point. Like another person said, I knew it had to be more straight forward and you have shown that😎👍thank you.
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but when I open the maschine vat in ableton 11 shift and record don’t work, normally you get a count in but nothing happens
GREAT VIDEO, is there a way you can do automations on machines affects and controls but in ableton? been struggling to figure this out, any help much apreccited and keep up the quality work
hmmm, good question - maybe someone else on here will know. You can just record the audio into a track in Ableton and use any effects/automation you want to that way... Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
Does your maschine mk3 have latency when your finger drumming (vst) into ableton live?? I need answers to fix the latency there's no latency in standalone mode!
great video. thanks. i've had Maschine since late 2011 (and Jam) but i just bought Live Intro a couple days ago. the software is weird to look at, so seeing how Maschine can be integrated like you've shown is pretty amazing
so can you just use maschine studio as a midi controller for ableton or other software-are the keys programmabled for other software, meaning not using maschine sofeware like this video shows
You can use Maschine as a midi controller in Ableton BUT what I am doing is actually using both with Ableton. It is a workflow thing - they are different pieces of hardware, similar, but different just as maschine software is different than Ableton Live. For me, I like using them both, I get the ideas flowing with Maschine - and build them out and finish them off in Ableton. Best of both worlds!
Not sure I understand the question - but you can use Maschine+ as well, it works just like the MK3 with Ableton but can also be used as a stand alone unit too.
Great video and topic! Question: can you drag the full midi patterns from Maschine to a drum rack? I think you said you could but last time I tried, something weird happened.
Great question, I should have been more clear - as best as I know there is no way to drag all into a drum rack, but you can move a drum rack into the midi clip once the drum midi is there and if you want all your drum midi in the same drum rack, you can just copy and paste it one by one into that one midi track, which is a bit tedious. You would then need to move it to the corresponding note, because all are on C3 by default I believe. I personally like to keep all my drums separate and then place them into a group, this way I can have individual control over each with effects, etc., but then also easily apply effects to all the drums in that group.
Such a nice tutorial! But what if I made a beat in Maschine with the, for example, Cracked Kit. If I drag the Midi over to Ableton the Midi tracks are all empty. How do I get Ableton to play the midi data of the Cracked Kit from Maschine? Is there an easier way than to drag every single part of the Cracked Kit (kick, snare, etc.) as seperate audio files over to Ableton and then put those Audio files into the Drum Rack? Up until now I soloed every single part of Maschine beats, recorded those single parts into Ableton and then sliced the files up and put them into Drum Rack - which takes so much time.
If you choose collect all and save in Ableton you should be good to go - and will have all samples within the Ableton project folder. I am always on the same computer, don't move around -- and don't collaborate with folks, so not an issue for me generally. But with any DAW, if you are collaborate and moving around - make sure to save with samples, collect all and save, etc., whatever the DAW calls it because they label it differently. Hope this helps!
Yo this was so informational and well articulated. It’s apparent you have Komplete Kontrol 😉 of Maschine/Ableton integration. Appreciate you sharing. Liked. Commented. Subscribed. ✌️
Thx a lot Blake ! Don't you have to configure/assign the midi channels of each instrument of your group to make it work separately in Ableton ? Thx a lot
You are welcome - you can assign and what not but that's now intuitive for me, frankly it's a pain in the butt, so I don't do it that way. Once I started just dragging stuff in, there was no going back for me...
Let's say you created a drum pattern on Maschine (for eg. 6 pads of sound) when you drag and drop the Midi Patterns to Ableton, it brings all the midi but its not triggering the individual pads. only one pad. any workaround?
maybe midi tracks only work on individual sounds, as a melody, i havent tested it yet, but as i understood yeah. which means you can midi everything apart form drums. which will be separate sounds, i believe :)
If I understand you correctly -- it is each sound that you need to copy the midi for. Each pad has it's own place in the piano roll, that's where the midi is. So if you have 6 pads of sounds, that's 6 midi pieces to drag over.
Great vid. Considering picking up a micro mk3, and wondering if the midi import into Ableton 11 will work the same as with the non mikro? Really want to be able to split the drums into separate midi tracks. Thoughts?
I don't see any issue with that - the mikro just has limited functionality in terms of buttons on the hardware, with no screen, etc., but no limitations in the software capability.
I haven’t found a simple explanation like this anywhere. Very good job!!! And for that you get a sub. I have both and I like to switch to keep things fresh. Hey, how’s it work in reverse?
What a nice compliment, thanks for watching and subscribing. I just try to make videos that I wish someone would have made for me to find on UA-cam! I have no interest in going in reverse, generally start with Maschine to flesh out the ideas, and move over to Ableton...
amazing video!! but i have a problem. when i drag a midi pattern from maschine and drop it into the midi section in ableton i get no sound, it reads that im getting it but i dont. but when i drag it into the audio section the sound is there. im using the mk3 and push 1 together
If you drag midi into the midi track in Ableton, you will need to add an instrument to that track....the only thing you are transferring is the notes with that move, Ableton still needs a sound to be able to generate something to those midi notes.
This is great but when I drag over a pattern from maschine into Ableton. It doesn't loop properly. It always has a tail end of blank sound. How do I fix this issue?
Hi, I'm tying all this but can't solo any Ableton track with a drum machine sound after having dragged a compkete maschine midi pattern....any config to foresee therefore ?
Blake haert, when dragging the midi of a whole pattern in ableton, don't you have to configure each created track by each time assigning a specific midi channel per track in both Ableton and maschine ? (2 for kick, 3 for snare....), Whilst track 1 is the Maschine plug-in ? You see what I mean ?
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful! You can use maschine as a midi controller for ableton, there are directions for set up, I haven't done it and I am not sure what control this gives you, and there's a few videos on it I think - -- support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000605109-How-to-Set-Up-the-MASCHINE-MK3-Integration-for-Ableton-Live and video - ua-cam.com/video/wmjeLqEftCo/v-deo.html
Ahhh, I loved reading this comment. I am really glad that this video helped you out. Both Maschine and Ableton are awesome, and as you use them you will develop your own workflow that works best for you! Have fun making music and thanks for watching!
Hello, don't you have to define a midi channel for each sound exported in Ableton to make it work ? Cause when I drag and drop in a midi track, it remains dependent of the track on which the Maschine vst is placed...so if this track is muted, all the separated ones won't work And why do you cancel the time signature ? Any advise ? Thx a lot ! Francois
That's a way to do it - but personally that drove me nuts. I cancel the time signature because I know what it is - and so I just let the global time signature in Ableton rule. You don't need those ones that come in from Maschine. You are right that if you drop the midi from Machine into Ableton, you need to have an instrument in Ableton to play the midi. Basically for me, dragging and dropping just proved to be easiest, most straight forward, and most rewarding at the end of the day, so I thought others might be interested in the workflow vs. the midi mapping craziness and straight up using Maschine as a VST in Ableton.
Hey there, there are lots of ways to do this. If you have created the arrangement in Maschine, you can export each "stem" individually and drag those into Ableton. I think this video of mine covers it -- I export to Studio One, but you can drag the wav audio stems into any DAW -- ua-cam.com/video/0wR6Pz1Daz0/v-deo.html
For some reason when I try to drag just the audio the clip is empty? Like no sound at all but it shows two flat lines for the stereo. I can bring in the midi, but not the sound. Anybody has a solution or encountered the same issue?
Do you hold it down and let it do it's thing? Otherwise I haven't had this issue...hopefully google helped you out - there are also tends to be a lot of folks over at the NI Community forum/message boards that are helpful with stuff like this and it might have already been asked there.
Right, you can use Maschine as a midi controller inside Ableton - and there are a bunch of ways to use Maschine with Ableton, this was just something that was working for me - in terms of my personal workflow, and I thought I would share it BUT yes, you definitely need to find out what works best for you...it will be different for everybody.

You can pull the midi into ableton and just load the drums up where you need them...that's how I do it sometimes.
So by default, how/where can i find the samples I imported/dragged from Maschine to Ableton?
If you choose collect all and save in Ableton you should be good to go - and will have all samples within the Ableton project folder. I am always on the same computer, don't move around -- and don't collaborate with folks, so not an issue for me generally. But with any DAW, if you are collaborate and moving around - make sure to save with samples, collect all and save, etc., whatever the DAW calls it because they label it differently. Hope this helps!
Yo this was so informational and well articulated. It’s apparent you have Komplete Kontrol 😉 of Maschine/Ableton integration. Appreciate you sharing. Liked. Commented. Subscribed. ✌️
Hey there, thank you for watching and glad to hear this was helpful!!
So if you have 6 pads of sounds, that's 6 midi pieces to drag over.
really instructive and well explain, great work, please make more with maschine jam :)
Thanks for watching, glad this was helpful! The machine jam is definitely forgotten by many people, I should get back to using it!
@@BlakeHeart thanks, Blake! Really enjoy your vids. As a noob, they have been VERY helpful!!
Love the video !
Awesome, thanks for taking the time to comment, glad this was helpful!
Thanks for the great info!
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Really informative.. great video.. and you've improved a lot! Keep going :)
Hey, thank you -- with every beat I make, I improve, and I am determined to keep going!!
This is great but when I drag over a pattern from maschine into Ableton. It doesn't loop properly. It always has a tail end of blank sound. How do I fix this issue?
Did you figure it out -- sorry but I don't know what the issue is...
My machine is not showing either the audio or the midi icon on the timeline, can someone help?
Are you in clip mode -- just found this -- www.reddit.com/r/maschine/comments/q664od/maschine_214_dragger_icons_missing/
Awesome tip!!
I just want to sequence machine in ableton while playing on the pads inside maschine (not midi mode)
Awesome video. Thank you
Thanks for watching!!!
Hi, I'm tying all this but can't solo any Ableton track with a drum machine sound after having dragged a compkete maschine midi pattern....any config to foresee therefore ?
hmmm, I can't think of what the issue may be. Sorry!!
Blake haert, when dragging the midi of a whole pattern in ableton, don't you have to configure each created track by each time assigning a specific midi channel per track in both Ableton and maschine ? (2 for kick, 3 for snare....), Whilst track 1 is the Maschine plug-in ? You see what I mean ?
awesome ..... thanks for tips and tricks.. regards ..
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!!
@@BlakeHeart You most welcome
Nice tips !
Thank you, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video.
I’m scared to make the wrong choice, machine vs push..........please help
Really depends what DAW you wanna stick with.
For better integration, Push for Live and Maschine for Maschine DAW
Are you a complete newbie? If so, I think that Maschine is a really great place to start out....
@@BlakeHeart yeah total noob
So helpful, thank you.
You are VERY welcome!
Thanks for this video... trying to use maschine with Ableton really blows (to put it lightly) and native instruments offers no help
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful! You can use maschine as a midi controller for ableton, there are directions for set up, I haven't done it and I am not sure what control this gives you, and there's a few videos on it I think -

This is epic. I was so confused lol starting with maschine. Thanks!
Ahhh, I loved reading this comment. I am really glad that this video helped you out. Both Maschine and Ableton are awesome, and as you use them you will develop your own workflow that works best for you! Have fun making music and thanks for watching!
yo best tutorial ever fr!!!!
Ahhh, thank you, I am glad this was helpful!
You can organize your samples into folders on your own.
Very informative! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Super helpful! Thank you so much.

Hello, don't you have to define a midi channel for each sound exported in Ableton to make it work ? Cause when I drag and drop in a midi track, it remains dependent of the track on which the Maschine vst is placed...so if this track is muted, all the separated ones won't work
And why do you cancel the time signature ?
Any advise ? Thx a lot ! Francois
That's a way to do it - but personally that drove me nuts. I cancel the time signature because I know what it is - and so I just let the global time signature in Ableton rule. You don't need those ones that come in from Maschine. You are right that if you drop the midi from Machine into Ableton, you need to have an instrument in Ableton to play the midi. Basically for me, dragging and dropping just proved to be easiest, most straight forward, and most rewarding at the end of the day, so I thought others might be interested in the workflow vs. the midi mapping craziness and straight up using Maschine as a VST in Ableton.
thank you so much, it help me a lot!
how could i make the master from a song made in maschine, inside ableton ?
Hey there, there are lots of ways to do this. If you have created the arrangement in Maschine, you can export each "stem" individually and drag those into Ableton. I think this video of mine covers it -- I export to Studio One, but you can drag the wav audio stems into any DAW -- ua-cam.com/video/0wR6Pz1Daz0/v-deo.html
Great Job Friend!!!!
Hey, thank you!!
Great tutorial! :)
Awesome, glad it was helpful!
I think the best way is using NI's script for Ableton Live which gives Maschine a ton of functionality. It's on NI's website along with instructions.
